¹A idúc pomimo videl človeka, slepého od narodenia.

¹And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth,

²A jeho učeníci sa ho opýtali a riekli: Rabbi, kto zhrešil, on a či jeho rodičia, aby sa slepý narodil?

²and his disciples asked him, saying, `Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?`

³Ježiš odpovedal: Ani on nezhrešil ani jeho rodičia, ale aby boli skutky Božie zjavené na ňom.

³Jesus answered, `Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him;

⁴Ja musím konať skutky toho, ktorý ma poslal, dokiaľ je deň; ide noc, keď nebude môcť nikto pracovať.

⁴it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work: —

⁵Keď som na svete, som svetlom sveta.

⁵when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.`

⁶To povediac, napľul na zem, spravil blato zo sliny, natrel ho na oči slepého

⁶These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,

⁷a povedal mu: Idi, umy sa v rybníku Siloam (čo je preložené: Poslaný). A tak odišiel a umyl sa, a prišiel a videl.

⁷`Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,` which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing;

⁸Vtedy hovorili súsedia a tí, ktorí ho predtým vídali slepého, a že bol žobrák: Či nie je toto ten, ktorý to sedával a žobral?

⁸the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, `Is not this he who is sitting and begging?`

⁹Jedni hovorili, že je to on; a druhí hovorili: Nie je, ale mu je podobný. Ale on hovoril: Ja som to.

⁹others said — `This is he;` and others — `He is like to him;` he himself said, — `I am [he].`

¹⁰Vtedy mu povedali: A jakože sa ti otvorili oči?

¹⁰They said, therefore, to him, `How were thine eyes opened?`

¹¹A on odpovedal: Človek, ktorý sa volá Ježiš, spravil blato, pomazal moje oči a povedal mi: Idi k rybníku Siloam a umy sa! A odišiel som a keď som sa umyl, videl som.

¹¹he answered and said, `A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;`

¹²Vtedy mu povedali: A kde je ten človek? Povedal: Neviem.

¹²they said, therefore, to him, `Where is that one?` he saith, `I have not known.`

¹³Potom ho pojali k farizeom, toho predtým slepého.

¹³They bring him to the Pharisees who once [was] blind,

¹⁴A bola sobota, keď spravil Ježiš to blato a otvoril jeho oči.

¹⁴and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵A tedy sa ho zase opýtali aj farizeovia, ako prezrel? A on im povedal: Priložil blato na moje oči, a umyl som sa a vidím.

¹⁵Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, `Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash — and I see.`

¹⁶Vtedy povedali niektorí z farizeov: Ten človek nie je od Boha, lebo nezachováva soboty. Zase iní hovorili: Jako môže hriešny človek robiť také divy? A bola roztržka medzi nimi.

¹⁶Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, `This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;` others said, `How is a man — a sinful one — able to do such signs?` and there was a division among them.

¹⁷Vtedy zase povedali slepému: Čo ty hovoríš o ňom, že otvoril tvoje oči? A on povedal: Je prorok.

¹⁷They said to the blind man again, `Thou — what dost thou say of him — that he opened thine eyes?`

¹⁸Vtedy neverili Židia o ňom, že by bol býval slepý a že prezrel, dokiaľ nezavolali jeho rodičov, rodičov toho, ktorý to prezrel,

¹⁸and he said — `He is a prophet.` The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight,

¹⁹a opýtali sa ich a riekli: Či je toto ten váš syn, o ktorom vy hovoríte, že sa slepý narodil? Ako je to, že teraz vidí?

¹⁹and they asked them, saying, `Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?`

²⁰A jeho rodičia im odpovedali a riekli: Vieme, že je to náš syn, aj to, že sa slepý narodil;

²⁰His parents answered them and said, `We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

²¹ale jako je to, že teraz vidí, nevieme, alebo kto otvoril jeho oči, my nevieme. Má svoje roky, pýtajte sa jeho; on bude hovoriť za seba.

²¹and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.`

²²To povedali jeho rodičia preto, že sa báli Židov, lebo Židia sa už boli medzi sebou dohodli, aby ten, kto by vyznal o ňom, že je Kristus, bol vylúčený zo synagógy.

²²These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him — Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;

²³Preto povedali jeho rodičia, má vraj svoje roky, jeho sa pýtajte.

²³because of this his parents said — `He is of age, ask him.`

²⁴Vtedy zavolali po druhé človeka, ktorý to bol slepý, a povedali mu: Daj Bohu chválu; my vieme, že ten človek je hriešnik.

²⁴They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, `Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;`

²⁵A on odpovedal: Či je hriešnik, neviem; jedno viem, že som bol slepý a že teraz vidím.

²⁵he answered, therefore, and said, `If he be a sinner — I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.`

²⁶A zase mu len povedali: Čo ti urobil? Ako otvoril tvoje oči?

²⁶And they said to him again, `What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?`

²⁷Odpovedal im: Už som vám povedal, a nepočuli ste. Čo zase chcete počuť? Či azda aj vy chcete byť jeho učeníkmi?

²⁷He answered them, `I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?`

²⁸Nadávali mu a povedali: Ty si toho učeníkom, ale my sme učeníci Mojžišovi.

²⁸They reviled him, therefore, and said, `Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses` disciples;

²⁹My vieme, že Mojžišovi hovoril Bôh, ale o tomto nevieme, odkiaľ je.

²⁹we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one — we have not known whence he is.`

³⁰Človek odpovedal a riekol im: Práve v tom je tá divná vec, že vy neviete, odkiaľ je, a otvoril moje oči.

³⁰The man answered and said to them, `Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes!

³¹Veď vieme, že Bôh hriešnikov nečuje; ale keď niekto ctí Boha a činí jeho vôľu, toho čuje.

³¹and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;

³²Od veku nebolo slýchať, že by niekto bol otvoril oči toho, kto sa slepý narodil.

³²from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind;

³³Keby on nebol od Boha, nemohol by nič robiť.

³³if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.`

³⁴Odpovedali a riekli mu: Ty si sa celý narodil v hriechoch a ty nás učíš? A vyhnali ho von.

³⁴They answered and said to him, `In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!` and they cast him forth without.

³⁵A Ježiš počul o tom, že ho vyhnali von, a keď ho našiel, povedal mu: Ty že veríš v Syna Božieho?

³⁵Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, `Dost thou believe in the Son of God?`

³⁶A on odpovedal a riekol: A kto je to, Pane, aby som uveril v neho?

³⁶he answered and said, `Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?`

³⁷A Ježiš mu povedal: Aj si ho videl, a ten, ktorý hovorí s tebou, to je on.

³⁷And Jesus said to him, `Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;`

³⁸A on povedal: Verím, Pane, a klaňal sa mu.

³⁸and he said, `I believe, sir,` and bowed before him.

³⁹A Ježiš povedal: Ja som prišiel na súd na tento svet, aby tí, ktorí nevidia, videli, a tí, ktorí vidia, boli slepí.

³⁹And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.`

⁴⁰A počuli to niektorí z farizeov, ktorí boli s ním, a povedali mu: Či sme azda aj my slepí?

⁴⁰And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, `Are we also blind?`

⁴¹A Ježiš im povedal: Keby ste boli slepí, nemali by ste hriechu, ale teraz hovoríte: Vidíme, a preto váš hriech zostáva.

⁴¹Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say — We see, therefore doth your sin remain.
