1Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2poznať múdrosť a kázeň, porozumieť slovám rozumnosti,
2For knowing wisdom and instruction, For understanding sayings of intelligence,
3dosiahnuť kázne rozumu, spravedlivosti, súdu a priamosti,
3For receiving the instruction of wisdom, Righteousness, judgment, and uprightness,
4dať prostým opatrnosť, mládencovi známosť a dômyselnosť.
4For giving to simple ones — prudence, To a youth — knowledge and discretion.
5Nech čuje múdry a priberie naučenia, a rozumný tak nadobudne schopnosti spravovať.
5(The wise doth hear and increaseth learning, And the intelligent doth obtain counsels.)
6Sú to veci na porozumenie prísloviu a podobenstvu, slovám múdrych a ich záhadným rečiam hlbokým.
6For understanding a proverb and its sweetness, Words of the wise and their acute sayings.
7Bázeň Hospodinova je počiatkom známosti; múdrosťou a kázňou pohŕdajú blázni.
7Fear of Jehovah [is] a beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and instruction fools have despised!
8Poslúchaj, môj synu, kázeň svojho otca a neopusti naučenia svojej matky.
8Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother,
9Lebo to bude ľúbezným vencom tvojej hlave a ozdobnou reťazou tvojmu hrdlu.
9For a graceful wreath [are] they to thy head, And chains to thy neck.
10Môj synu, keby ťa nahovárali hriešnici, neprivoľ!
10My son, if sinners entice thee be not willing.
11Keby ti riekli: Nože poď s nami; nastrojíme krvi úklady; skryjeme sa proti nevinnému bez príčiny;
11If they say, `Come with us, we lay wait for blood, We watch secretly for the innocent without cause,
12pohltíme ich živých ako peklo a bezúhonných ako tých, ktorí sostupujú do jamy;
12We swallow them as Sheol — alive, And whole — as those going down [to] the pit,
13najdeme rôzny majetok drahocenný; naplníme svoje domy korisťou.
13Every precious substance we find, We fill our houses [with] spoil,
14Vrhni svoj los medzi nami; všetci budeme mať jeden mešec.
14Thy lot thou dost cast among us, One purse is — to all of us.`
15Môj synu, nechoď na cestu s nimi; zdrž svoju nohu od ich chodníka!
15My son! go not in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path,
16Pretože ich nohy bežia ku zlému, a ponáhľajú sa vyliať krv.
16For their feet to evil do run, And they haste to shed blood.
17Lebo veď nadarmo sa rozprestiera sieť pred očami ktoréhokoľvek okrýdlenca.
17Surely in vain is the net spread out before the eyes of any bird.
18Ale oni úkladia svojej vlastnej krvi; skrývajú sa proti svojim dušiam.
18And they for their own blood lay wait, They watch secretly for their own lives.
19Také sú cesty každého, kto dychtí po zisku; zisk odníma dušu svojho pána.
19So [are] the paths of every gainer of dishonest gain, The life of its owners it taketh.
20Múdrosť volá hlasne vonku; vydáva svoj hlas na uliciach.
20Wisdom in an out-place crieth aloud, In broad places she giveth forth her voice,
21Volá na hlavných miestach najrušnejších, pri vchodoch do brán, v meste hovorí svoje reči:
21At the head of the multitudes she calleth, In the openings of the gates, In the city her sayings she saith:
22Až dokedy, hlúpi, budete milovať hlúposť, a posmievači dokedy budú obľubovať posmech a blázni nenávidieť známosť?
22`Till when, ye simple, do ye love simplicity? And have scorners their scorning desired? And do fools hate knowledge?
23Obráťte sa k môjmu karhaniu! Hľa, vydám vám zo seba svojho ducha a oznámim vám svoje slová!
23Turn back at my reproof, lo, I pour forth to you my spirit, I make known my words with you.
24No, preto, že som volala, a odopierali ste; vystierala som svoju ruku, a nebolo nikoho, kto by bol pozoroval ušima;
24Because I have called, and ye refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,
25ale ste pustili naprázdno každú moju radu a môjho karhania ste nechceli,
25And ye slight all my counsel, And my reproof ye have not desired.
26preto sa i ja budem smiať vo vašom nešťastí; budem sa posmievať, keď prijde to, čoho sa strachujete;
26I also in your calamity do laugh, I deride when your fear cometh,
27keď prijde to, čoho sa strachujete, jako búrka, a vaše nešťastie sa dovalí jako víchrica, keď prijde na vás súženie a úzkosť.
27When your fear cometh as destruction, And your calamity as a hurricane doth come, When on you come adversity and distress.
28Vtedy budú volať na mňa, ale sa neohlásim; budú ma pilne hľadať, skoro za rána, ale ma nenajdú,
28Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and find me not.
29zato, že nenávideli známosti a nevyvolili si bázne Hospodinovej;
29Because that they have hated knowledge, And the fear of Jehovah have not chosen.
30nechceli mojej rady, ale pohŕdali každým mojím káraním,
30They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,
31a tak budú jesť z ovocia svojej cesty a nasýtia sa svojich rád.
31And they eat of the fruit of their way, And from their own counsels they are filled.
32Lebo odvrátenie hlupcov ich samých zabije, a vlastná hriešna ubezpečenosť bláznov, tá ich zahubí.
32For the turning of the simple slayeth them, And the security of the foolish destroyeth them.
33Ale ten, kto mňa poslúcha, bude bývať bezpečne a bude mať pokoj od strachu zo zlého.
33And whoso is hearkening to me dwelleth confidently, And [is] quiet from fear of evil!`
