¹Keď vyplieni Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, národy, ktorých zem dá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, tebe, a zaujmeš ich do dedičstva a budeš bývať v ich mestách a v ich domoch,

¹When Jehovah thy God hath cut off the nations whose land Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and thou hast dispossessed them, and dwellest in their cities and in their houses,

²oddelíš si tri mestá prostred svojej zeme, ktorú ti dá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, aby si ju zaujal do dedičstva.

²thou shalt separate three cities for thyself in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.

³Spravíš si cestu a rozdelíš na tri diely územie svojej zeme, ktorú ti dá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, do dedičstva, a bude to nato, aby sa ta utiekol každý, kto by niekoho zabil.

³Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and divide the territory of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every slayer may flee thither.

⁴A toto bude vec vraha, ktorý by sa ta utiekol, aby žil: kto by zabil svojho blížneho nevedome, nechcúc, a keď ho nemal v nenávisti pred tým,

⁴And this is the case of the slayer who shall flee thither that he may live: he that smiteth his neighbour unwittingly, whom he hated not previously;

⁵ako na príklad keby niekto vošiel so svojim blížnym do hory rúbať drevo, a zahnala by sa jeho ruka sekerou uťať drevo, a železo by sa sklzlo a odletelo s poriska a ponašlo by jeho blížneho, takže by zomrel, ten sa utečie do niektorého z tých miest a bude žiť,

⁵as when he goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron slippeth from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; such an one shall flee unto one of these cities, and live;

⁶aby snáď pomstiteľ krvi nehonil vraha, keď by sa rozpálilo jeho srdce, a nedostihnul ho, keby bolo mnoho cesty, a zabil by ho bez toho, že by bol zaslúžil smrť, pretože ho nemal v nenávisti ani vtedy ani pred tým.

⁶lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, since he hated him not previously.

⁷Preto ti ja prikazujem a hovorím: Oddelíš si tri mestá.

⁷Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thyself.

⁸A jestli rozšíri Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, tvoje územie, ako prisahal tvojim otcom, a dá ti celú zem, o ktorej hovoril, že ju dá tvojim otcom,

⁸And if Jehovah thy God enlarge thy border, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers

⁹keď budeš ostríhať všetky tieto prikázania činiac ich, ktoré ti ja prikazujem dnes, aby si miloval Hospodina, svojho Boha, aby si chodil po jeho cestách po všetky dni, vtedy si pridáš ešte druhé tri mestá ku tým trom,

⁹(if thou keep all this commandment to do it, which I command thee this day, to love Jehovah thy God, and to walk in his ways continually), then shalt thou add three cities more for thyself to these three,

¹⁰aby sa nevyliala nevinná krv vprostred tvojej zeme, ktorú ti dá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, do dedičstva, a bola by na tebe krv.

¹⁰that innocent blood be not shed in the midst of thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and blood come not upon thee.

¹¹Ale keby niekto nenávidel svojho blížneho a úkladil by mu a povstanúc na neho uderil by ho smrteľne, takže by zomrel, a keby sa utiekol do niektorého z tých miest,

¹¹But if a man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and he flee into one of these cities,

¹²vtedy pošlú starší jeho mesta a vezmú ho odtiaľ a oddajú ho do ruky pomstiteľa krvi, a zomrie.

¹²then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

¹³Nezľutuje sa nad ním tvoje oko, ale odpraceš nevinnú krv z Izraela, a bude ti dobre.

¹³Thine eye shall not spare him; and thou shalt put away innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.

¹⁴Neprenesieš medze svojho blížneho, ktorú vymedzili predkovia v tvojom dedičstve, ktoré zdedíš v zemi, ktorú ti dá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, aby si ju zaujal do dedičstva.

¹⁴Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have fixed in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.

¹⁵Nepovstane jeden svedok proti niekomu vzťahom na jakúkoľvek neprávosť alebo na jakýkoľvek hriech, nech už by to bol akýkoľvek hriech, ktorým hrešieva človek. Na ústach dvoch svedkov alebo na ústach troch svedkov bude stáť slovo.

¹⁵One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, and for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.

¹⁶Keby povstal ukrutný svedok falošný proti niekomu, aby svedčil na neho, že odstúpil od Boha,

¹⁶If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of an offence;

¹⁷vtedy sa postavia tí dvaja mužovia, ktorí majú taký spor pred Hospodinom, pred kňazov a pred sudcov, ktorí budú v tých dňoch.

¹⁷then both the men between whom the controversy is shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;

¹⁸A sudcovia dobre vyšetria vec, a keď sa dokáže, že hľa, svedok je falošný svedok a že hovoril lož na svojho brata,

¹⁸and the judges shall make thorough inquiry; and if the witness be a false witness, and he have testified falsely against his brother,

¹⁹učiníte mu to isté, čo on zamýšľal učiniť svojmu bratovi, a odpraceš také zlo zo svojho stredu.

¹⁹then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.

²⁰A ostatní, keď to počujú, budú sa báť a nevykonajú viac takej zlej veci v tvojom strede.

²⁰And those that remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in thy midst.

²¹A nezľutuje sa tvoje oko, ale dá život za život, oko za oko, zub za zub, ruku za ruku, nohu za nohu.

²¹And thine eye shall not spare: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
