¹A Filištíni bojovali proti Izraelovi, a mužovia Izraelovi utekali pred Filištínmi a padli súc pobití na vrchu Gilboe.

¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.

²A Filištíni stíhali Saula ženúc sa tesne za ním a za jeho synmi. A tak zabili Filištíni Jonatána, Abinadába a Malkišuu, synov Saulových.

²The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

³A keď bola bitka ťažká na Saula, nadišli na neho strelci z luku, a veľmi sa triasol pred tými strelcami.

³The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

⁴Vtedy riekol Saul svojmu zbrojnošovi: vytiahni svoj meč a prebodni ma ním, aby neprišli títo neobrezanci, a nerobili si zo mňa posmechu. Ale jeho zbrojnoš nechcel, lebo sa veľmi bál. Vtedy pochytil Saul meč a naľahol naň.

⁴Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

⁵A keď videl jeho zbrojnoš, že zomrel Saul, naľahol aj on na meč a zomrel.

⁵When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.

⁶Tak zomrel Saul i jeho traja synovia, i celý jeho dom zomrel spolu.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

⁷Keď potom videli všetci mužovia Izraelovi, ktorí boli na doline, že utekajú, a že zomrel Saul a jeho synovia, zanechali svoje mestá a tiež utekali. A prišli Filištíni a bývali v nich.

⁷When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

⁸A stalo sa na druhý deň, že prišli Filištíni, aby olúpili pobitých. A našli Saula a jeho synov ležať padlých na vrchu Gilboe.

⁸It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

⁹A olúpili ho a vzali jeho hlavu i jeho zbraň a poslali po zemi Filištínov dookola, aby s radosťou zvestovali ich modlám i ľudu.

⁹They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.

¹⁰A jeho zbraň složili v dome svojho boha a jeho hlavu pribili v dome Dágonovom.

¹⁰They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

¹¹Ale keď počuli všetci obyvatelia Jabeš-Gileáda všetko, čo urobili Filištíni Saulovi,

¹¹When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹²vzchopili sa všetci chrabrí mužovia a vzali telo Saulovo i telá jeho synov a doniesli ich do Jabeša a pochovali ich kosti pod dubom v Jabeši a postili sa sedem dní.

¹²all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹³A tak zomrel Saul pre svoje prestúpenie, ktorým bol prestúpil proti Hospodinovi zhrešiac proti slovu Hospodinovmu, ktorého neostríhal, a tiež i preto, že sa pýtal duchára pýtajúc si radu.

¹³So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of the word of Yahweh, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,

¹⁴A nepýtal sa Hospodina, a preto ho zabil a obrátil kráľovstvo na Dávida, syna Izaiho.

¹⁴and didn’t inquire of Yahweh: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
