¹Ty teda, moje dieťa, mocnej v milosti, ktorá je v Kristu Ježišovi.

¹You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

²A to, čo si počul odo mňa skrze mnohých svedkov, sver to verným ľuďom, ktorí budú schopní aj iných učiť.

²The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

³Ty teda znášaj zlo jako dobrý vojak Ježiša Krista.

³You therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

⁴Nikto, konajúci vojenskú službu, nezapletá sa do obchodov živnosti, aby sa ľúbil svojmu vojvodcovi.

⁴No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

⁵A keď aj niekto zápasí nebude korunovaný, keby nezápasil zákonite.

⁵Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he isn’t crowned unless he has competed by the rules.

⁶Trudne pracujúci roľník má prvý dostať z úrody.

⁶The farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops.

⁷Rozumej, čo hovorím. Lebo nech ti dá Pán rozum vo všetkom!

⁷Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

⁸Pamätaj na Ježiša Krista, ktorý vstal z mŕtvych, zo semena Dávidovho, podľa môjho evanjelia,

⁸Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my Good News,

⁹v ktorom trpím a znášam zlé až po putá jako zločinec, ale slovo Božie nie je poviazané.

⁹in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God’s word isn’t chained.

¹⁰Preto nesiem všetko trpezlivo pre vyvolených, aby aj oni došli spasenia, ktoré je v Kristu Ježišovi, s večnou slávou.

¹⁰Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹¹Verné je slovo: Lebo ak sme spolu zomreli, budeme spolu aj žiť;

¹¹This saying is faithful: “For if we died with him, we will also live with him.

¹²ak spolu trpezlivo znášame, budeme spolu i kraľovať; ak zaprieme, aj on nás zaprie;

¹²If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.

¹³ak sme neverní, on zostáva verný, lebo nemôže sám seba zaprieť.

¹³If we are faithless, he remains faithful. He can’t deny himself.”

¹⁴To pripomínaj a osvedčuj pred Pánom, Bohom, aby sa neškriepili o slová, čo nie je na nič užitočné, a je iba na zkazu tým, ktorí to počúvajú.

¹⁴Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they don’t argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.

¹⁵Usiluj sa, aby si seba predstavil dokázaného Bohu, robotníka, ktorému sa netreba hanbiť, ktorý krojí slovo pravdy, jako sa patrí.

¹⁵Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.

¹⁶Ale obecným a prázdnym rečiam vyhni. Lebo ešte väčšmi pokročia v bezbožnosti,

¹⁶But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,

¹⁷a ich slovo sa bude rozožierať ako rakovina. Z nich je Hymeneus a Filétus,

¹⁷and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

¹⁸ktorí čo do pravdy zablúdili a teraz hovoria, že už bolo vzkriesenie, a prevracajú niektorých vieru.

¹⁸men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.

¹⁹Ale pevný základ Boží stojí a má túto pečať: Pán zná tých, ktorí sú jeho, a: Nech odstúpi od neprávosti každý, kto menuje meno Kristovo!

¹⁹However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” Numbers 16:5 and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord TR reads “Christ” instead of “the Lord” depart from unrighteousness.”

²⁰A vo veľkom dome nie sú len samé zlaté nádoby a strieborné, ale aj drevené a hlinené, a to jedny na česť a jedny na nečesť.

²⁰Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.

²¹Keby sa tedy niekto vyčistil od toho, bude nádobou na česť, posvätenou, užitočnou hospodárovi, prihotovenou ku každému dobrému skutku.

²¹If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master’s use, prepared for every good work.

²²Ale pred žiadosťami mladosti utekaj a žeň sa za spravedlivosťou, vierou, láskou a za pokojom s tými, ktorí vzývajú Pána z čistého srdca.

²²Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

²³Ale bláznivé a nerozumné otázky odby vediac, že plodia zvady.

²³But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.

²⁴A sluha Pánov sa nemá vadiť, ale má byť prívetivý ku všetkým, schopný učiť a zniesť i zlé,

²⁴The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,

²⁵ktorý v krotkej tichosti karhá tých, ktorý sa protivia, ak by im azda Bôh dal pokánie poznať pravdu,

²⁵in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,

²⁶a aby zase vytriezveli a vymanili sa z osídla diablovho, ktorí sú lapení od neho robiť jeho vôľu.

²⁶and they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.
