¹Lebo striebro má svoj prameň a zlato miesto, kde ho čistia;

¹“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.

²Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.

³Človek kladie koniec tme a zkúma vo všetky konce hlbiny hľadajúc kameň mrákoty a tône smrti.

³Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

⁴Lomí dol hlboko od toho, kto býva hore; tí, ktorých zabudla noha, visia, vzdialení súc od ľudí kolíšu sa sem a ta.

⁴He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.

⁵Čo do zeme, z nej pochádza chlieb, a pod ňou sa prevracia čosi jako oheň.

⁵As for the earth, out of it comes bread; Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

⁶Miesto safíra sú jej kamene, rôzneho prachu, ktorý má zlato,

⁶Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.

⁷chodníka, ktorého nezná orol, ani ho neuzrie oko sokola;

⁷That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.

⁸nešliapala po ňom mladá zver; nekráčal po ňom lev.

⁸The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.

⁹Človek vystrel svoju ruku po kremeni; podvracia vrchy od koreňa;

⁹He puts forth his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.

¹⁰rúbe prietoky cez skaly, a všetko, čo je drahé, uvidí jeho oko;

¹⁰He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.

¹¹hatí rieky, aby sa nevylialy, a vyvodí skryté veci na svetlo...

¹¹He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings forth to light.

¹²Ale kde sa nájde múdrosť? A kde je miesto rozumnosti?

¹²“But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

¹³Smrteľný človek nezná jej ceny, ani sa nenajde v zemi živých.

¹³Man doesn’t know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

¹⁴Priepasť hovorí: Neni jej vo mne. A more hovorí: Nie je u mňa.

¹⁴The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’

¹⁵Nedáva sa za ňu rýdze zlato, ani sa neváži striebro za jej menu.

¹⁵It can’t be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price.

¹⁶Nevyváži sa za zlato z Ofíra, za drahý onyx a safír.

¹⁶It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire or, lapis lazuli .

¹⁷Nevyrovná sa jej v cene zlato ani sklo, ani sa nedá zameniť za nádobu z čistého zlata.

¹⁷Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

¹⁸Nespomína sa koral a kryštal, a nadobudnúť múdrosť je nad perly.

¹⁸No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

¹⁹Nevyrovná sa jej smaragd z Ethiopie, ani sa nevyváži za čisté zlato.

¹⁹The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

²⁰A tedy odkiaľže prichodí múdrosť? A kde je miesto rozumnosti?

²⁰Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

²¹Pretože je skrytá pred očima každého živého i pred nebeským vtáctvom je ukrytá.

²¹Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

²²Zahynutie a smrť hovoria: Svojimi ušami sme počuly jej povesť.

²²Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’

²³Sám Bôh rozumie jej ceste a on zná jej miesto.

²³“God understands its way, and he knows its place.

²⁴Lebo on zrie na všetky končiny zeme, vidí všade všetko pod všetkými nebesami.

²⁴For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.

²⁵Keď robil vetru váhu a meral vody mierou

²⁵He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.
