¹Israel stayed in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab:

²ktoré pozvaly ľud k obetiam svojich bohov. A ľud jedol, a klaňali sa ich bohom.

²for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.

³A Izrael sa spriahol s Bál-peorom. Vtedy sa roznietil hnev Hospodinov na Izraela.

³Israel joined himself to Baal Peor: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel.

⁴A Hospodin riekol Mojžišovi: Pober všetkých pohlavárov ľudu a povešaj ich Hospodinovi pred slnkom, aby sa odvrátila páľa hnevu Hospodinovho od Izraela.

⁴Yahweh said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Yahweh before the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.”

⁵Vtedy riekol Mojžiš sudcom Izraelovým: Zabite každý svojich mužov, ktorí sa spriahli s Bál-peorom.

⁵Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”

⁶A hľa, nejaký muž zo synov Izraelových prišiel a doviedol k svojim bratom Madianku pred očima Mojžišovými a pred očami celej obce synov Izraelových, ktorí plakali pri dveriach stánu shromaždenia.

⁸a vošiel za izraelským mužom do stánu a prebodnul ich oboch, izraelského muža i tú ženu, vraziac kopiju do jej brucha, a tak bola rana zastavená a odvrátená od synov Izraelových.

⁸and he went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

⁹A tých, ktorí zomreli tou ranou, bolo dvadsaťštyri tisíc.

⁹Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁰Vtedy hovoril Hospodin Mojžišovi a riekol:

¹⁰Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹Pinchas, syn Eleazára, syna Árona, kňaza, odvrátil moju prchlivosť od synov Izraelových, keď sa rozhorlil mojou horlivosťou medzi nimi, aby som nezahladil docela synov Izraelových svojou horlivosťou.

¹¹“Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.

¹²Preto povedz: Hľa, dám mu svoju smluvu, smluvu pokoja.

¹²Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace:

¹⁴A meno izraelského muža, toho zabitého, ktorý bol zabitý s tou Madiankou, bolo Zimri, syn Salú-va, knieža domu svojho otca, z pokolenia Simeonovho.

¹⁴Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Simeonites.

¹⁶A Hospodin hovoril Mojžišovi a riekol:

¹⁶Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹⁷Sovri Madianov, a zbijete ich,

¹⁷“Harass the Midianites, and strike them;

¹⁸pretože aj oni boli vás sovreli svojimi ľsťami, keď vás preľstili modlou Peorom a Kozbi-ou, dcérou madianskeho kniežaťa, svojou sestrou, ktorá bola zabitá v deň rany pre Peora.

¹⁸for they harassed you with their wiles, with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.”
