¹Duh pa razločno pravi, da bodo v poslednjih časih nekateri odpadli od vere in poslušali zapeljive duhove in nauke hudobnih duhov,

¹But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

²vsled licemerstva lažigovornikov, ki nosijo vžgano znamenje v svoji vesti,

²through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;

³ki branijo ženiti se in možiti in zapovedujejo zdrževati se jedil, katera je Bog ustvaril, da jih z zahvaljevanjem uživajo verni in ti, ki so spoznali resnico.

³forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

⁴Kajti vsaka stvar Božja je dobra in ničesar ni, da bi zametali, ako prejemljemo z zahvaljevanjem:

⁴For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.

⁵posvečuje se namreč po besedi Božji in molitvi.

⁶To naročajoč bratom, bodeš dober služabnik Kristusa Jezusa, vzrejen v besedah vere in dobrega nauka, ki si mu doslej sledil.

⁶If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

⁷Posvetne in starobabje basni pa zavračaj. Vadi se pa v pobožnosti;

⁷But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

⁸zakaj telesna vaja je za malo koristna, pobožnost pa je za vse koristna, ker ima obljubo življenja sedanjega in prihodnjega.

⁸For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

⁹Resnična je ta beseda in vsekakor vredna, da se sprejme.

⁹This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.

¹⁰Kajti zato se tudi trudimo in nas sramoté, ker smo upanje svoje postavili na živega Boga, ki je Rešitelj vseh ljudi, sosebno vernih.
