¹Prosim vas torej jaz, jetnik v Gospodu, da živite dostojno poklicu, ki ste ž njim bili poklicani,

¹I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,

²z vso ponižnostjo in krotkostjo, s potrpežljivostjo, prenašajoč se med seboj v ljubezni,

²with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love;

³skrbno si prizadevajoč, ohraniti edinost Duha v vezi miru.

³being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

⁴Eno je telo in en Duh, kakor ste tudi bili poklicani v enem upanju poklica svojega;

⁴There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling;

⁵en Gospod, ena vera, en krst;

⁵one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

⁶en Bog in Oče vseh, ki je nad vsemi in po vseh in v vseh nas.

⁶one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.

⁷Vsakemu pa izmed nas je dana milost po meri daru Kristusovega.

⁷But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

⁸Zato pravi: „Šel je v višavo, ujete pripeljal jetnike, dal je dari ljudem“.

⁸Therefore he says, “When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.” Psalm 68:18

⁹Tisto pa: Šel je v višavo, kaj je drugega, nego da je tudi šel prej doli v spodnje kraje zemlje?

⁹Now this, “He ascended,” what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?

¹⁰On, ki je šel doli, je tisti, ki je šel tudi gori nad vsa nebesa, da bi vse napolnil.

¹⁰He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.

¹¹In on je dal nekatere za apostole, nekatere za proroke, nekatere za evangeliste, nekatere za pastirje in učenike,

¹¹He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds or, pastors and teachers;

¹²v pripravo svetih, za delo službe, za zdelovanje telesa Kristusovega,

¹²for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;

¹³dokler ne dospemo vsi do edinosti vere in spoznanja Sinu Božjega, do moža doraslega, do mere dovršene rasti polnosti Kristusove,

¹³until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

¹⁴da ne bodemo več deca in nas ne bo semtertja metala in gonila vsaka sapa nauka, ki prihaja po zvijačnosti ljudi, po prekanjenosti za zvito zapeljevanje;

¹⁴that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;

¹⁵temuč da rastemo, držeč se resnice v ljubezni, v vsem do njega, ki je glava, Kristus;

¹⁵but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;

¹⁶iz katerega vse telo, združeno in zedinjeno po pripomoči slehernega člena, po delovanju v meri vsakega uda rast telesa vrši v napredek svoj, v ljubezni.

¹⁶from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.

¹⁷To torej pravim in pričam v Gospodu, da ne živite več tako, kakor žive tudi pogani v ničemurnosti srca svojega,

¹⁷This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,

¹⁸otemnjeni v razumu, odtujeni življenju Božjemu zaradi nevednosti, ki je v njih, vsled otrplosti njih srca,

¹⁸being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;

¹⁹ki so se, ko so postali brezčutni, vdali razuzdanosti, da strežejo sleherni nečistosti z lakomnostjo.

¹⁹who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

²⁰Vi pa se niste tako naučili Kristusa,

²⁰But you did not learn Christ that way;

²¹ako ste ga slišali in ste bili poučeni v njem, kakor je resnica v Jezusu:

²¹if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:

²²da ste slekli z ozirom na prejšnje življenje starega človeka, ki gine po slah prevare,

²²that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit;

²³a da se obnavljate v duhu uma svojega,

²³and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

²⁴in ste oblekli novega človeka, ustvarjenega po Bogu v pravičnosti in svetosti resnice.

²⁴and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

²⁵Zato, iznebivši se laži, govorite resnico vsak z bližnjim svojim, ker smo udje med seboj.

²⁵Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.

²⁶Jezite se, a ne grešite! Solnce naj ne zaide nad jezo vašo,

²⁶“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Psalm 4:4 Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath,

²⁷in ne dajte prostora hudiču.

²⁷neither give place to the devil.

²⁸Kdor je kradel, ne kradi več, temuč trudi se, delajoč dobro z lastnimi rokami, da ima kaj podeliti potrebnemu.

²⁸Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.

²⁹Nobena gnila beseda ne izidi iz vaših ust, ampak če je katera dobra za napredek, kjer je treba, da dá milost poslušalcem.

²⁹Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

³⁰In ne žalite svetega Duha Božjega, ki ste ž njim zapečateni za odrešenja dan.

³⁰Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

³¹Vsaka bridkost in srd in jeza in vpitje in preklinjanje izgini od vas z vso hudobnostjo vred.Bodite pa med seboj blagi, milosrčni, odpuščajte drug drugemu, kakor je tudi Bog v Kristusu vam odpustil.

³¹Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice.

³²And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
