¹Bodite torej posnemalci Boga, kakor otroci ljubljeni,

¹Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.

²in živite v ljubezni, kakor je tudi Kristus ljubil nas in je dal sebe za nas kot daritev in žrtev Bogu v prijetno dišavo.

²Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.

³Nesramnost pa in sleherna nečistost ali lakomnost naj se še imenuje ne med vami, kakor se spodobi svetim,

³But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints;

⁴tudi ne nečedno vedenje in nespametne besede ali norčevanje, kar je nespodobno, ampak rajši zahvaljevanje.

⁴nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.

⁵To namreč veste, da noben nesramnik, ali nečistnik, ali lakomnik, ki je malikovalec, nima dediščine v kraljestvu Kristusovem in Božjem.

⁵Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.

⁶Nihče vas ne varaj s praznimi besedami; kajti zavoljo teh pregreh prihaja jeza Božja na sinove nepokorščine.

⁶Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.

⁷Ne bodite torej njih deležniki.

⁷Therefore don’t be partakers with them.

⁸Bili ste namreč nekdaj tema, zdaj pa ste svetloba v Gospodu: kakor svetlobe otroci živite

⁸For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

⁹(kajti sad svetlobe je v sleherni dobroti in pravičnosti in resnici),

⁹for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,

¹⁰in presojajte, kaj je Gospodu po volji;

¹⁰proving what is well pleasing to the Lord.

¹¹in ne udeležujte se nerodovitnih del teme, marveč še grajajte jih;

¹¹Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.

¹²kar namreč počenjajo skrivaj, grdo je celo samo praviti to.

¹²For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.

¹³Vse to pa se razodene, ko to graja svetloba; kajti vse razodeto je svetloba.

¹³But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that reveals is light.

¹⁴Zato pravi: Zbudi se, ki spiš, in vstani izmed mrtvih, in prisveti ti Kristus.

¹⁴Therefore he says, “Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

¹⁵Glejte torej, da živite previdno, ne kakor nemodri, ampak kakor modri,

¹⁵Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise;

¹⁶in skrbno rabite čas, ker dnevi so hudi.

¹⁶redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

¹⁷Zatorej ne bodite nespametni, marveč umejte, kaj je volja Gospodova.

¹⁷Therefore don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁸In ne upijanjajte se z vinom, v čemer je razuzdanost, temuč napolnjujte se z Duhom,

¹⁸Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

¹⁹govoreč med se boj v psalmih, slavospevih in pesmih duhovnih, pojoč in citrajoč s srcem svojim Gospodu,

¹⁹speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

²⁰zahvaljujoč se vedno za vse v imenu Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa Bogu in Očetu;

²⁰giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;

²¹pokorni bodite drug drugemu v strahu Kristusovem.

²¹subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.

²²Žene, svojim možem bodite pokorne kakor Gospodu;

²²Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

²³kajti mož je glava ženi, kakor tudi Kristus glava cerkvi; on je tudi rešitelj telesa.

²³For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.

²⁴Ali kakor je cerkev pokorna Kristusu, tako bodite tudi žene svojim možem v vsem.

²⁴But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.

²⁵Možje, ljubite žene svoje, kakor je tudi Kristus ljubil cerkev in je samega sebe dal zanjo,

²⁵Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;

²⁶da jo posveti, očistivši jo v kopeli vode, z besedo,

²⁶that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,

²⁷da pripravi sam sebi slavno cerkev, ki nima madeža ali gube ali kaj enakega, ampak da bode sveta in brezmadežna.

²⁷that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

²⁸Tako so možje dolžni ljubiti žene kakor telesa svoja. Kdor ljubi ženo svojo, ljubi sebe;

²⁸Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.

²⁹kajti nihče ni nikoli sovražil svojega mesa, temuč hrani in goji ga kakor tudi Kristus cerkev,

²⁹For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly;

³⁰ker udje smo telesa njegovega [iz mesa njegovega in iz kosti njegovih].

³⁰because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.

³¹„Zato zapusti človek očeta svojega in mater svojo ter se pridruži ženi svoji, in oba bodeta eno meso“.

³¹“For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24

³²Ta skrivnost je velika: jaz pa pravim za Kristusa in za cerkev.Toda tudi vi, vsak posamezni naj ljubi ženo svojo tako kakor sebe; žena pa se boj moža.
