¹In beseda GOSPODOVA mi je prišla, govoreč:

¹The word of Yahweh came to me again, saying,

²Kaj menite, da rabite ta pregovor o zemlji Izraelovi, govoreč: Očetje so zobali kislo grozdje in otrokom so zobje skominasti?

²What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

³Kakor resnično živim, govori Gospod Jehova, ne boste več rabili tega pregovora v Izraelu!

³As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, you shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

⁴Glej, vse duše so moje; kakor duša očetova, tako duša sinova je moja; duša, ki greši, umrje.

⁴Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins, he shall die.

⁵In ako je kdo pravičen, in dela, kar je postavno in pravično,

⁵But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

⁶po gorah ne jé in oči ne vzdiguje proti grdim malikom Izraelove hiše, bližnjega svojega žene ne oskrunja in ženi v nesnagi njeni se ne bliža,

⁶and has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither has defiled his neighbor’s wife, neither has come near to a woman in her impurity,

⁷nikomur ne škoduje, ampak dolžniku povrne zastavo, s silo ne vzame ničesar, lačnemu podeli kruh svoj in nagega odene z obleko,

⁷and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

⁸na obresti ne posoja in ne lihvuje, od krivice odvrača roko, po resnici sodi med možem in možem,

⁸he who has not given forth on interest, neither has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

⁹po postavah mojih živi in pazi na sodbe moje, da bi stregel resnici: ta je pravičen, gotovo bo živel, govori Gospod Jehova.

⁹has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, says the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁰Ako rodi sina silovitneža, ki preliva kri in stori katero onih reči,

¹⁰If he fathers a son who is a robber, a shedder of blood, and who does any one of these things,

¹¹tistih čednosti pa ne dela, marveč jé po gorah in oskrunja bližnjega svojega ženo,

¹¹and who does not any of those duties, but even has eaten on the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹²ubožcu in potrebnemu škoduje, siloma jemlje, zastave ne vrne in oči vzdiguje h grdim malikom, počenja gnusobe,

¹²has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

¹³posoja na obresti in lihvuje: ali bo živel? Ne bo živel! Vse te gnusobe je počenjal, mora umreti; kri njegova bodi nad njim!

¹³has given forth on interest, and has taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be on him.

¹⁴A glej, rodi sina, ki vidi vse očeta svojega grehe, ki jih ta dela, pa se boji in enakega ne počenja:

¹⁴Now, behold, if he fathers a son, who sees all his father’s sins, which he has done, and fears, and does not such like;

¹⁵ne jé po gorah, ne vzdiguje oči h grdim malikom Izraelove hiše, ne oskrunja bližnjega svojega žene,

¹⁵who has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹⁶ne škoduje nikomur, ne zahteva ničesar v zastavo, ne jemlje s silo, ampak daje lačnemu kruh svoj in odeva nagega z obleko;

¹⁶neither has wronged any, has not taken anything to pledge, neither has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹⁷varuje se roko položiti na reveža, ne posoja na obresti in ne lihvari, izpolnjuje sodbe moje in živi po postavah mojih: ta ne umrje zaradi krivičnosti očeta svojega, gotovo bo živel.

¹⁷who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

¹⁸Oče njegov, ker je kruto stiskal, brata svojega siloma plenil in počenjal med ljudstvom svojim, kar ni dobro: glej, ta umre zaradi krivičnosti svoje.

¹⁸As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

¹⁹A vi pravite: Zakaj ne nosi sin krivice očeta svojega? Ker je sin delal, kar je postavno in pravično, in je hranil vse postave moje ter jih izpolnjeval: gotovo bo živel.

¹⁹Yet you say, Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live.

²⁰Duša, ki greši, umrje. Sin ne bo nosil očeta svojega krivice, tudi oče ne krivice sina svojega; pravičnost pravičnega ostane na njem, in brezbožnost ostane na brezbožnem.

²⁰The soul who sins, he shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

²¹Ako pa se brezbožnik odvrne od vseh grehov svojih, ki jih je storil, in bo hranil vse postave moje in delal, kar je postavno in pravično, gotovo bo živel, ne umrje.

²¹But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²²Nobeden od prestopkov njegovih, ki jih je zakrivil, se mu ne bo spominjal; zaradi pravičnosti svoje, ki jo je storil, bo živel.

²²None of his transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he has done he shall live.

²³Ali mi je res po volji smrt brezbožnikova? govori Gospod Jehova; ni li mi bolj všeč, da se izpreobrne od svojega dejanja ter živi?

²³Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord Yahweh; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

²⁴Ako pa se odvrne pravičnik od pravičnosti svoje ter dela nepravičnost po vseh gnusobah, ki jih počenja brezbožnik, ali naj živi? Nobeno od pravičnih del njegovih, ki jih je storil, se ne bo spominjalo: zavoljo nezvestobe svoje, s katero se je pregrešil, in zavoljo greha svojega, ki ga je zakrivil, mora umreti.

²⁴But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

²⁵In še pravite vi: Ni ravna pot Gospodova! Poslušajte vendar, o družina Izraelova: Moja li pot ni ravna? Ni li tako, da vaše poti niso ravne?

²⁵Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?

²⁶Ko se pravičnik odvrne od pravičnosti svoje in se vda nepravičnosti in umre v tem: umre zavoljo nepravičnosti svoje, ki jo je storil.

²⁶When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies therein; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die.

²⁷In ko se brezbožnik izpreobrne od brezbožnosti svoje, s katero je grešil, in dela, kar je postavno in pravično, ohrani dušo svojo v življenju.

²⁷Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

²⁸Ker je izprevidel in se je izpreobrnil od vseh prestopkov svojih, ki jih je zakrivil, gotovo bo živel, ne umrje.

²⁸Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²⁹A vendar govori družina Izraelova: Pot Gospodova ni ravna. O družina Izraelova, moja li pot ni ravna? Ni li tako, da vaše poti niso ravne?

²⁹Yet the house of Israel says, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?

³⁰Zatorej vas bom sodil, družina Izraelova, vsakega po dejanju njegovem, govori Gospod Jehova. Izpreobrnite se in odvrnite se od vseh prestopkov svojih, in krivica vam ne bo v padec.

³⁰Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways, says the Lord Yahweh. Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

³¹Vrzite od sebe vse prestopke svoje, s katerimi ste se pregrešili, in oskrbite si novo srce in novega duha! kajti čemu naj bi mrli, o družina Izraelova?Zakaj meni ni po volji smrt njega, ki gine, govori Gospod Jehova. Zato se izpreobrnite in živite!

³¹Cast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

³²Zakaj meni ni po volji smrt njega, ki gine, govori Gospod Jehova. Zato se izpreobrnite in živite!

³²For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live.
