¹In beseda GOSPODOVA mi pride, govoreč:

¹The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

²Sin človečji, zastavi uganko in govóri priliko hiši Izraelovi

²Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;

³in reci: Tako pravi Gospod Jehova: Velik orel z velikimi perutnicami in dolgimi letalnimi peresi, poln pisanega perja, je priletel na Libanon in odtrgal vrh cedrovega drevesa.

³and say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers, which had various colors, came to Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar:

⁴Najgorenjo vejico je odtrgal in jo odnesel v deželo tržnikov in jo postavil v mestu kupčevalcev.

⁴he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs of it, and carried it to a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.

⁵In vzame semena dežele ter ga vseje na žitno njivo; nesel ga je k obilim vodam, gojil ga je kakor vrbo.

⁵He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow tree.

⁶In vzraslo je in postalo bohotna vinska trta nizke rasti, da so se njene veje obračale proti orlu in korenine njene bile pod njim; tako je postala vinska trta in poganjala mladike in raztezala grebenice.

⁶It grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

⁷Bil je pa drug velik orel z velikimi perutnicami in obilim perjem. In glej, ta vinska trta je od gredic svojega sadišča krivo iztezala korenine svoje žejno do njega in razgibala svoje veje proti njemu, da bi jo namakal.

⁷There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it.

⁸Na dobri njivi, pri obilnih vodah je bila zasajena, da bi poganjala mladike in rodila sad, da postane slavna vinska trta.

⁸It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

⁹Reci: Tako pravi Gospod Jehova: Bo li imela srečo? Ne izruje li oni korenin njenih in odreže njenega sadu, da usahne? Vse njeno mlado listje, ki ga je pognala, se posuši; in ne bode treba velike moči in mnogega ljudstva, da jo vzdignejo od korenin njenih.

⁹Say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or many people can it be raised from its roots.

¹⁰In glej, čeprav zasajena, bo li imela srečo? Se li ne posuši docela, kakor hitro se je dotakne vzhodni veter? Usahne na gredicah, na katerih raste.

¹⁰Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew.

¹¹Še mi pride beseda GOSPODOVA, govoreč:

¹¹Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

¹²Govóri vendar tisti uporni družini: Ne veste li, kaj to pomeni? Reci: Glejte, kralj babilonski je prišel v Jeruzalem in je vzel kralja in kneze v njem ter jih odpeljal k sebi v Babilon.

¹²Say now to the rebellious house, Don’t you know what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon:

¹³In vzel je enega od kraljevega semena in ž njim sklenil zavezo in ga zaprisegel; mogočnike v deželi pa je vzel s seboj,

¹³and he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land;

¹⁴da bodi kraljestvo ponižno, da bi se ne povzdignilo, temuč da bi, držeč zavezo svojo, obstalo.

¹⁴that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.

¹⁵Ali on se mu je uprl; poslal je sporočnike svoje v Egipt, da naj mu dado konj in dosti ljudstva. Bo li imel srečo? ubeži li, ko je to storil? Prelomil je zavezo, pa bi ubežal?

¹⁵But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape who does such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?

¹⁶Kakor res živim, govori Gospod Jehova: v kraju, kjer prebiva kralj, ki ga je postavil za kralja, pa mu je prisego v nič dejal in zavezo ž njim prelomil, pri njem umre v Babilonu.

¹⁶As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

¹⁷In nič ne opravi Faraon zanj z veliko vojsko in z veliko množico v boju, ko bodo nanašali nasipe in zidali obležne utrdbe, da iztrebijo mnogo duš.

¹⁷Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons.

¹⁸Ker je v nič dejal prisego, prelomivši zavezo, – in glej, v roko je bil nanjo segel, in vendar je storil vse to – ne ubeži.

¹⁸For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things; he shall not escape.

¹⁹Zatorej pravi tako Gospod Jehova: Kakor resnično živim, prisego meni, ki jo je v nič dejal, in zavezo z menoj, ki jo je prelomil, prav to mu pripravim nad glavo!

¹⁹Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised, and my covenant that he has broken, I will even bring it on his own head.

²⁰In vržem mrežo svojo nanj in ulovljen bo v lovnici moji, in privedem ga v Babilon in tam se bom ž njim pravdal zaradi nezvestobe, ki jo je zagrešil zoper mene.

²⁰I will spread my net on him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.

²¹In vsi ubežniki njegovi od vseh krdel njegovih popadajo pod mečem, in kar jih preostane, bodo razkropljeni na vse vetrove. In spoznate, da sem jaz, GOSPOD, govoril.

²¹All his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and you shall know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it.

²²Tako pravi Gospod Jehova: Tudi jaz vzamem od vršiča visoke cedre in ga zasadim; od najgorenjih vejic njenih odtrgam eno mlado in jo zasadim ne gori visoki in vzvišeni.

²²Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain:

²³Na visoki gori Izraelovi jo zasadim, in požene mladike in prinese sad in postane slavna cedra; in pod njo bodo prebivali vsi ptiči, vsakršna perutnina: v senci mladik njenih se nastanijo.In spoznajo vsa drevesa na polju, da sem jaz, GOSPOD, ponižal visoko drevo, povišal nizko drevo, posušil zeleno drevo in suhemu drevesu dal zeleneti. Jaz, GOSPOD, sem govoril in storil.

²³in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of its branches shall they dwell.

²⁴In spoznajo vsa drevesa na polju, da sem jaz, GOSPOD, ponižal visoko drevo, povišal nizko drevo, posušil zeleno drevo in suhemu drevesu dal zeleneti. Jaz, GOSPOD, sem govoril in storil.

²⁴All the trees of the field shall know that I, Yahweh, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, Yahweh, have spoken and have done it.
