¹Beseda, ki je prišla Jeremiju od GOSPODA, ko je k njemu poslal kralj Zedekija Pashurja, Malkijevega sina, in Zefanija, Maasejevega sina, duhovnika, da naj rečeta:

¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying,

²Poprašaj, prosim, za nas GOSPODA, ker se Nebukadnezar, kralj babilonski, vojskuje zoper nas; morebiti stori GOSPOD z nami po vseh čudovitih delih svojih, da pojde on od nas.

²Please inquire of Yahweh for us; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us: perhaps Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.

³Rekel pa jima je Jeremija: Tako recita Zedekiju:

³Then Jeremiah said to them, You shall tell Zedekiah:

⁴Tako pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz obrnem nazaj vojno orožje, ki je v vaših rokah, ki se ž njim bojujete zoper kralja babilonskega in zoper Kaldejce, ki vas oblegajo zunaj zida, in ga skupim sredi tega mesta.

⁴Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans who besiege you, without the walls; and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

⁵In sam se bom bojeval z vami z iztegnjeno roko in z močno ramo, in to z jezo in srdom in s togoto veliko.

⁵I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation.

⁶In udarim prebivalce tega mesta, ljudi in živino; od kuge velike bodo mrli.

⁶I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and animal: they shall die of a great pestilence.

⁷Potem pa, govori GOSPOD, izdam Zedekija, kralja Judovega, in hlapce njegove in ljudstvo, kar ga namreč preostane v tem mestu od kuge, od meča in od glada, v roko Nebukadnezarja, kralja babilonskega, in v roko njih sovražnikov in v roko onih, ki jim strežejo po življenju; in on jih udari z ostrino meča, ne bo jim prizanašal in milosti ne bo poznal in usmiljenja.

⁷Afterward, says Yahweh, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: and he shall strike them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.

⁸Temu ljudstvu pa reci: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Glejte, jaz vam predlagam pot življenja in pot smrti.

⁸To this people you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

⁹Kdor ostane v tem mestu, umre od meča ali glada ali kuge; kdor pa pojde ven in uskoči h Kaldejcem, ki vas oblegajo, bo živel in življenje njegovo mu bode namesto plena.

⁹He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes out, and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey.

¹⁰Kajti obrnil sem srdito obličje svoje proti temu mestu v hudo in ne v dobro, govori GOSPOD; v roko kralja babilonskega bo izdano, in ga sežge z ognjem. –

¹⁰For I have set my face on this city for evil, and not for good, says Yahweh: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

¹¹Kar se pa tiče hiše kralja Judovega, poslušajte besedo Gospodovo:

¹¹Touching the house of the king of Judah, hear the word of Yahweh:

¹²O hiša Davidova, tako pravi GOSPOD: Delajte vsako jutro pravico in otmite ga, ki trpi ropanje, iz roke zatiralca, da ne šine kakor ogenj srd moj in gorí neugasno zavoljo hudobe vaših dejanj.

¹²House of David, thus says Yahweh, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

¹³Glej, jaz sem zoper tebe, o prebivalka v dolini in na skali tiste ravnine, govori GOSPOD, zoper vas, ki govorite: Kdo pride doli proti nam? ali kdo stopi v prebivališča naša?In pokoril vas bom po sadu vaših dejanj, govori GOSPOD; in zanetim ogenj v gozdu njenem, ki pokonča vse, kar stoji okoli nje.

¹³Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, says Yahweh; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

¹⁴In pokoril vas bom po sadu vaših dejanj, govori GOSPOD; in zanetim ogenj v gozdu njenem, ki pokonča vse, kar stoji okoli nje.

¹⁴I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says Yahweh; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is around her.
