¹Beseda, ki je prišla Jeremiju od GOSPODA v dnevih Jojakima, sinu Josijevega, kralja na Judovem, govoreč:

¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

²Pojdi k družini Rehabovcev in govori ž njimi in jih pripelji v hišo GOSPODOVO v kateri hram in jim daj priti vina.

²Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.

³Vzamem torej Jazanija, sinu Jeremija, sinu Habazinijevega, in brate njegove in vse sine njegove in vso družino Rehabovcev

³Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

⁴in jih privedem v hišo GOSPODOVO v hram sinov Hanana, sinu Jigdalija, moža Božjega, ki je blizu hrama knezov, ta pa nad hramom Maaseja, sinu Salumovega, ki je bil čuvaj vrat.

⁴and I brought them into the house of Yahweh, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

⁵In ko sem postavil pred sinove družine Rehabovcev kupe polne vina in čaše, jim rečem: Pijte vino!

⁵I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink wine!

⁶Oni pa reko: Ne pijemo vina, kajti Jonadab, sin Rehabov, naš oče, nam je zapovedal, rekoč: Ne pijte vina, ne vi, ne otroci vaši, nikdar;

⁶But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

⁷in hiše ne zidajte in semena ne sejte in vinograda ne sadite in ga v lasti ne imejte, temuč v šatorih prebivajte vse svoje dni, da boste mnogo dni živeli v deželi, kjer ste tujci.

⁷neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you live.

⁸In poslušali smo glas Jonadaba, sinu Rehabovega, očeta svojega v vsem, kar nam je zapovedal: da ne pijemo vina vse svoje dni, mi, žene naše, sinovi naši in hčere naše,

⁸We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

⁹in ne zidajmo hiš v domovanje svoje; tudi nimamo vinograda ali polja ali setve,

⁹nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

¹⁰temuč prebivamo v šatorih in poslušamo in delamo, prav kakor nam je zapovedal Jonadab, naš oče.

¹⁰but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

¹¹Ko pa je šel Nebukadnezar, kralj babilonski, gori v to deželo, smo rekli: Dejte, pojdimo v Jeruzalem pred vojsko Kaldejcev in pred vojsko Sircev! Tako smo se nastanili v Jeruzalemu.

¹¹But it happened, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.

¹²Tedaj pride beseda GOSPODOVA Jeremiju, rekoč:

¹²Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

¹³Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Pojdi in reci možem Judovim in prebivalcem jeruzalemskim: Ali ne sprejmete nauka, da bi poslušali besede moje? govori GOSPOD.

¹³Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

¹⁴Besede Jonadaba, sinú Rehabovega, ki je ž njimi prepovedal otrokom svojim, naj ne pijo vina, se izpolnjujejo; kajti niso pili do tega dne, ker poslušajo zapoved očeta svojega. Jaz pa sem vam govoril od ranega jutra in neprenehoma, a niste me poslušali.

¹⁴The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

¹⁵In pošiljal sem k vam vse hlapce svoje, proroke, od ranega jutra in neprenehoma, govoreč: Povrnite se vendar s hudobnega pota svojega in dobra naredite dejanja svoja in ne hodite za tujimi bogovi, da bi jih častili, tako ostanete v tej deželi, ki sem jo izročil vam in očetom vašim: toda niste nagnili ušesa svojega in niste me poslušali.

¹⁵I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

¹⁶Pač izpolnjujejo otroci Jonadaba, sinu Rehabovega, zapoved očeta svojega, ki jim jo je zapovedal; to ljudstvo pa ne posluša mene.

¹⁶Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;

¹⁷Zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD, Bog nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz pripeljem nad Judo in nad vse prebivalce jeruzalemske vso tisto nesrečo, ki sem jo izgovoril zoper nje; zato ker me niso poslušali, ko sem jim govoril, in niso odgovorili, ko sem jih klical.

¹⁷therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

¹⁸In družini Rehabovcev je rekel Jeremija: Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Ker poslušate zapoved Jonadaba, očeta svojega, in se držite vseh zapovedi njegovih in delate vse, kakor vam je zapovedal,zato pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Jonadabu, sinu Rehabovemu, ne bo zmanjkalo moža, ki bo stal pred obličjem mojim, vse čase.

¹⁸Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;

¹⁹zato pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Jonadabu, sinu Rehabovemu, ne bo zmanjkalo moža, ki bo stal pred obličjem mojim, vse čase.

¹⁹therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
