¹Bilo pa je v četrtem letu Jojakima, sinu Josijevega, kralja na Judovem, ko pride ta beseda Jeremiju od GOSPODA, rekoč:

¹It happened in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

²Vzemi si zvitek knjige in zapiši vanj vse besede, ki sem ti jih govoril o Izraelu in o Judi in o vseh narodih od dne, ko sem te ogovoril, od dni Josijevih do tega dne.

²Take a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

³Morda bo hiša Judova slišala vse tisto hudo, katero jim jaz mislim storiti, in se povrnejo vsak s hudobnega pota svojega, da jim odpustim njih krivico in njih greh.

³It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

⁴Zato je Jeremija poklical Baruha, sinu Nerijevega; in zapisal je Baruh iz ust Jeremijevih vse besede GOSPODOVE, ki mu jih je govoril, v zvitek knjige.

⁴Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Yahweh, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

⁵Nato zapove Jeremija Baruhu, rekoč: Jaz sem zadržan, ne morem iti v hišo GOSPODOVO;

⁵Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into the house of Yahweh:

⁶zato pojdi ti in beri v tem zvitku, kar si zapisal iz mojih ust, besede GOSPODOVE, da sliši ljudstvo v hiši GOSPODOVI v postni dan; in beri, da slišijo tudi vsi Judovi, ki so prišli iz svojih mest.

⁶therefore you go, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of Yahweh in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

⁷Morda popadajo na tla in prosijo pred GOSPODOM in se povrnejo vsak s hudobnega pota svojega; kajti velika je jeza in togota, ki jo je izrekel GOSPOD zoper to ljudstvo.

⁷It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people.

⁸In Baruh, Nerijev sin, je storil, prav kakor mu je bil zapovedal prorok Jeremija, in je bral v tisti knjigi besede GOSPODOVE v hiši GOSPODOVI.

⁸Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Yahweh in Yahweh’s house.

⁹In zgodi se v petem letu Jojakima, sinu Josijevega, kralja na Judovem, deveti mesec, da je bil post pred GOSPODOM napovedan vsemu ljudstvu v Jeruzalemu in vsemu ljudstvu, ki je prišlo iz mest Judovih v Jeruzalem.

⁹Now it happened in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.

¹⁰In Baruh je bral v knjigi besede Jeremijeve v hiši GOSPODOVI, v hramu Gemarija, sinu Safana pisarja, na gorenjem dvorišču pri vhodu novih vrat hiše GOSPODOVE, da je slišalo vse ljudstvo.

¹⁰Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.

¹¹Ko je pa slišal Mihaj, sin Gemarija, sinu Safanovega, vse besede GOSPODOVE iz tiste knjige,

¹¹When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Yahweh,

¹²je šel doli v hišo kraljevo, v hram pisarjev, kjer so, glej, sedeli vsi knezi: Elisama pisar in Delaja, sin Semajev, in Elnatan, sin Akborjev, Gemarija, sin Safanov, in Zedekija, sin Hananijev, in vsi knezi.

¹²he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

¹³In povedal jim je Mihaj vse besede, ki jih je slišal, ko je Baruh bral v knjigi, da je ljudstvo poslušalo.

¹³Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

¹⁴Tedaj so poslali vsi knezi k Baruhu Jehudija, sinu Netanija, sinu Selemija, sinu Kusijevega, da naj reče: Tisti zvitek, v katerem si bral, da je poslušalo ljudstvo, tega vzemi v roko svojo in pridi. Vzame torej Baruh, Nerijev sin, tisti zvitek v roko svojo in pride k njim.

¹⁴Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.

¹⁵Pa mu reko: Sedi zdaj in beri tisto, mi bomo pa poslušali; in Baruh je bral, oni so pa poslušali.

¹⁵They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

¹⁶In ko so slišali vse tiste besede, so prestrašeni gledali drug drugega in rekli Baruhu: Gotovo bomo kralju povedali vse te besede.

¹⁶Now it happened, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

¹⁷Baruha pa so vprašali, rekoč: Povej nam vendar, kako si zapisal vse te besede iz ust njegovih?

¹⁷They asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth?

¹⁸Baruh pa jim reče: Iz svojih ust mi je govoril vse te besede, in jaz sem pisal v knjigo s črnilom.

¹⁸Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

¹⁹Tedaj reko knezi Baruhu: Pojdi, skrij se ti in Jeremija, in nihče ne vedi, kje sta.

¹⁹Then the princes said to Baruch, Go, hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

²⁰In šli so h kralju v dvorec, ko so bili tisti zvitek položili v hram Elisama pisarja; in povedali so, da je slišal kralj, vse tiste besede.

²⁰They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

²¹Pošlje torej kralj Jehudija, da prinese tisti zvitek. In vzame ga iz hrama Elisama pisarja. In bere ga Jehudija, da je slišal kralj in so slišali vsi knezi, ki so stali poleg kralja.

²¹So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.

²²Kralj pa je sedel v zimski hiši deveti mesec, in gorelo je na ognjišču pred njim.

²²Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.

²³In ko je bil prebral Jehudija tri liste ali štiri, je kralj prerezal zvitek s pisarskim nožem in ga vrgel v ogenj, ki je bil na ognjišču, da je bil ves zvitek pokončan z ognjem na ognjišču.

²³It happened, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

²⁴Niso se pa zbali in niso pretrgali obleke svoje kralj in vsi hlapci njegovi, ki so slišali vse tiste besede.

²⁴They were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

²⁵Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them.

²⁶In zapovedal je kralj Jerahmielu, sinu kraljevemu, in Seraju, sinu Azrielovemu, in Selemiju, sinu Abdeelovemu, da naj primejo Baruha pisarja in Jeremija proroka; ali skril ju je GOSPOD.

²⁶The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them.

²⁷Prišla je pa beseda GOSPODOVA Jeremiju (ko je bil kralj sežgal tisti zvitek in besede, ki jih je bil Baruh zapisal iz ust Jeremijevih), govoreč:

²⁷Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

²⁸Zopet si vzemi drug zvitek in zapiši vanj vse poprejšnje besede, ki so bile v onem prejšnjem zvitku, ki ga je sežgal Jojakim, kralj Judov.

²⁸Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.

²⁹O Jojakimu pa, kralju Judovem, reci: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Ti si sežgal oni zvitek, rekoč: Zakaj si pisal v njem: Gotovo pride kralj babilonski in pogubi deželo to in stori, da izginejo iz nje ljudje in živina?

²⁹Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal?

³⁰Zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD o Jojakimu, kralju Judovem: Ne bo ga imel, da bi sedel na prestolu Davidovem, in truplo njegovo bo vrženo v vročino po dnevi in v mraz po noči.

³⁰Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

³¹Kajti kaznoval ga bom in seme njegovo in hlapce njegove za njih krivico; in pripeljem zoper nje in zoper prebivalce jeruzalemske in zoper može Judove vso tisto nesrečo, ki sem jo jim oznanjal, pa me niso poslušali.Torej vzame Jeremija drug zvitek in ga da Baruhu, sinu Nerijevemu, pisarju. In on je zapisal vanj iz ust Jeremijevih vse besede knjige, ki jo je bil sežgal Jojakim, kralj Judov, v ognju; in še so jim bile pridejane mnoge take besede.

³¹I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.

³²Torej vzame Jeremija drug zvitek in ga da Baruhu, sinu Nerijevemu, pisarju. In on je zapisal vanj iz ust Jeremijevih vse besede knjige, ki jo je bil sežgal Jojakim, kralj Judov, v ognju; in še so jim bile pridejane mnoge take besede.

³²Then took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides to them many like words.
