1Pred praznikom velikonočnim pa, ko je Jezus vedel, da je prišla njegova ura, da prejde s tega sveta k Očetu: ker je ljubil svoje, ki so bili na svetu, jih je ljubil do konca.
1Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2In pri večerji, ko je že bil hudič Judu Simonovemu Iškariotu dal v srce, naj ga izda,
2During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,
3vstane Jezus, vedoč, da mu je dal Oče vse v roke, in da je od Boga izšel in k Bogu gre,
3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and was going to God,
4od večerje in sleče oblačilo in vzame prt ter se opaše.
4arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5Potem vlije vode v medenico in začne umivati učencem noge in otirati s prtom, ki je bil ž njim opasan.
5Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6Pride torej k Simonu Petru. On mu reče: Gospod, ti mi boš umival noge?
6Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”
7Jezus odgovori in mu reče: Kar jaz delam, ti sedaj ne veš, ali zvedel boš potem.
7Jesus answered him, “You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.”
8Reče mu Peter: Ne boš mi umival nog, na vekomaj ne! Odgovori mu Jezus: Če te ne umijem, nimaš deleža z menoj.
8Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.”
9Reče mu Simon Peter: Gospod, ne samo nog mojih, ampak tudi roke in glavo!
9Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10Reče mu Jezus: Kdor je bil v kopeli umit, ne potrebuje, samo da si noge umije, sicer je ves čist; in vi ste čisti, ali ne vsi.
10Jesus said to him, “Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you.”
11Poznal je namreč izdajalca svojega; zato je rekel: Niste vsi čisti.
11For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, “You are not all clean.”
12Ko jim je torej umil noge in je vzel oblačilo svoje, sede zopet za mizo in jim reče: Veste li, kaj sem vam storil?
12So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
13Vi me zovete: Učenik in Gospod, in prav pravite; kajti to tudi sem.
13 You call me, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am.
14Če sem torej jaz, Gospod in Učenik, vam umil noge, ste dolžni tudi vi drug drugemu umivati noge.
14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15Zgled sem vam dal namreč, da tudi vi delajte tako, kakor sem vam jaz storil.
15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.
16Resnično, resnično vam pravim: Hlapec ni večji od gospodarja svojega, tudi poslanec ni večji nego tisti, ki ga je poslal.
16 Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither one who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17Ako to veste, blagor vam, če to delate.
17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18Ne govorim o vseh vas; jaz vem, katere sem izvolil. Ali izpolniti se mora pismo: „Ta, ki jé z menoj kruh, je vzdignil peto svojo zoper mene.“
18 I don’t speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.’ Psalm 41:9
19Že sedaj vam to pravim, preden se je zgodilo, da verujete, kadar se zgodi, da sem jaz.
19 From now on, I tell you before it happens, that when it happens, you may believe that I am he.
20Resnično, resnično vam pravim: Kdor ga sprejme, kogarkoli pošljem, sprejme mene; kdor pa sprejme mene, sprejme tega, ki me je poslal.
20 Most certainly I tell you, he who receives whomever I send, receives me; and he who receives me, receives him who sent me.”
21Ko je Jezus to povedal, se razžalosti v duhu, ter zatrdi in reče: Resnično, resnično vam pravim, da me eden izmed vas izda.
21When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, “Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray me.”
22Učenci se tedaj spogledujejo med seboj, pomišljujoč, o katerem pravi.
22The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.
23Slonel je pa za mizo na naročju Jezusovem eden učencev njegovih, ki ga je Jezus ljubil.
23One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was at the table, leaning against Jesus’ breast.
24Simon Peter torej namigne temu in mu reče: Povej nam, kdo je, o katerem pravi.
24Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom he speaks.”
25On se nasloni, kakor je, Jezusu na prsi ter mu reče: Gospod, kdo je?
25He, leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ breast, asked him, “Lord, who is it?”
26Jezus odgovori: Ta je, ki mu grižljaj omočim in podam. Omočivši torej grižljaj, ga vzame in poda Judu Simonovemu Iškariotu.
26Jesus therefore answered, “It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
27In za grižljajem - tedaj vnide vanj satan. Jezus mu torej veli: Kar delaš, stori hitro.
27After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”
28Tega pa ni razumel nobeden za mizo sedečih, čemu mu je to rekel.
28Now no man at the table knew why he said this to him.
29Nekateri so namreč mislili, ker je Juda mošnjo imel, da mu Jezus pravi: Nakupi, kar nam je treba za praznik: ali da naj dá kaj ubogim.
29For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, “Buy what things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.
30Vzemši torej grižljaj, odide takoj; bila je pa noč.
30Therefore having received that morsel, he went out immediately. It was night.
31Ko je torej odšel, reče Jezus: Sedaj je Sin človekov oslavljen, in Bog je oslavljen v njem.
31When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
32Če je Bog oslavljen v njem, ga tudi Bog oslavi v sebi, in precej ga oslavi.
32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him immediately.
33Otročiči, še malo časa sem z vami. Iskali me boste, a kakor sem Judom povedal: kamor jaz grem, vi ne morete priti, tako pravim sedaj tudi vam.
33 Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come,’ so now I tell you.
34Novo zapoved vam dajem, da se ljubite med seboj; kakor sem jaz vas ljubil, da se tudi vi ljubite med seboj.
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another.
35V tem spoznajo vsi, da ste moji učenci, ako imate ljubezen drug do drugega.
35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
36Reče mu Simon Peter: Gospod, kam greš? Jezus odgovori: Kamor grem, ne moreš zdaj iti za menoj; pozneje pa pojdeš za menoj.
36Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you can’t follow now, but you will follow afterwards.”
37Reče mu Peter: Gospod, zakaj ne morem sedaj iti za teboj? Življenje svoje dam zate.Jezus odgovori: Življenje svoje daš zame? Resnično, resnično ti pravim: Petelin ne zapoje, dokler me trikrat ne zatajiš.
37Peter said to him, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38Jezus odgovori: Življenje svoje daš zame? Resnično, resnično ti pravim: Petelin ne zapoje, dokler me trikrat ne zatajiš.
38Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for me? Most certainly I tell you, the rooster won’t crow until you have denied me three times.
