²da se spozna modrost in uk, da se umejo razumnosti besede,

²to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;

³da se sprejme pouk v modrem vedenju, v pravičnosti, pravi sodbi in poštenosti,

³to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

⁴da se dá preprostim pamet, mladeniču spoznanje in razsodnost.

⁴to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:

⁵Čul jih bo modri in napredoval v znanosti, in razumnik si pridobode modrih vodil,

⁵that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:

⁶da razume pregovore in skrivnostne izreke, besede modrih in njih uganke.

⁶to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.

⁷Strah GOSPODOV je začetek znanja; modrost in pouk zaničujejo neumneži.

⁷The fear of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁸Poslušaj, sin moj, očeta svojega pouk in ne zametuj nauka matere svoje:

⁸My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:

⁹kajti krasen venec je to glavi tvoji in verižica zlata tvojemu grlu.

⁹for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.

¹⁰Sin moj, ako te vabijo grešniki, se jim ne vdaj.

¹¹Ako govore: „Pojdi z nami, na kri prežímo, nedolžnega zalezujmo brez vzroka;

¹¹If they say, “Come with us, Let’s lay in wait for blood; let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

¹²pogoltnimo jih žive, kakor jih požira smrtni kraj, in nepoškodovane, kakor da bi naglo padli v jamo;

¹²let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. , and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

¹³vsakršno drago blago si pridobimo, s plenom napolnimo hiše svoje;

¹³We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with spoil.

¹⁴srečo izkusi sredi nas, ena mošnja bodi nam vsem!“ –

¹⁴You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”

¹⁵sin moj, ne hodi po poti ž njimi, zdrži nogo svojo od njih steze!

¹⁵My son, don’t walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path,

¹⁶Ker njih noge tečejo za hudim in kri hité prelivat.

¹⁶for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

¹⁷Res, zaman se razpenja mreža pred očmi vsakega ptiča,

¹⁸oni pa – sami na svojo kri preže, zalezujejo lastne duše svoje!

¹⁸but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

¹⁹Take so steze njih, ki iščejo krivičnega dobička: jemlje dušo njim, ki si ga lasté.

¹⁹So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

²⁰Modrost glasno kliče zunaj, na ulicah zaganja svoj glas;

²⁰Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.

²¹vpije, kjer se največ ljudstva gnete, ob vhodu v vrata, v mestu, govori besede svoje:

²¹She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:

²²Doklej, o preprosti, boste ljubili nespamet in, zasmehovalci, imeli veselje v zasmehovanju in, bedaki, sovražili znanje?

²²“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

²³Obrnite se k svarjenju mojemu! Glejte, izlijem vam duha svojega, oznanjala vam bom besede svoje.

²³Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

²⁴Toda, ko sem klicala, ste se branili, ko sem iztezala roko svojo, nihče se ni zmenil zanjo,

²⁴Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

²⁵temuč prezirali ste vse svete moje in svarila mojega si niste želeli:

²⁵but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

²⁶zato se bom tudi jaz smejala v nesreči vaši in vas zasmehovala, kadar pride, česar se bojite;

²⁶I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;

²⁷when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.

²⁸Tedaj me bodo klicali, pa jim ne odgovorim, skrbno me bodo iskali, a ne najdejo me:

²⁸Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

²⁹zato ker so sovražili znanje in strahu GOSPODOVEGA niso izvolili,

²⁹because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.

³⁰svetov mojih niso hoteli, a zaničevali so vse svarjenje moje.

³⁰They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

³¹Zato bodo jedli od sadu pota svojega in sitili se z naklepi svojimi.

³¹Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

³²Zakaj bebcev upor jih ubije in brezkrbnost bedakov jih pokonča.Kdor pa mene posluša, brez skrbi bo prebival in mir užival, ne boječ se hudega.

³²For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

³³But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
