¹Беше пак један болесник, Лазар из Витаније из села Марије и Марте, сестре њене.

¹Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

²(А Марија, које брат Лазар боловаше, беше она што помаза Господа миром и отре ноге Његове својом косом.)

²(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

³Онда послаше сестре к Њему говорећи: Господе! Гле, онај који Ти је мио болестан је.

³Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

⁴А кад чу Исус, рече: Ова болест није на смрт, него на славу Божију, да се прослави Син Божји с ње.

⁴When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

⁵А Исус љубљаше Марту и сестру њену и Лазара.

⁵Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

⁶А кад чу да је болестан, тада оста два дана на оном месту где беше.

⁶When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

⁷А потом рече ученицима: Хајдемо опет у Јудеју.

⁷Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

⁸Ученици Му рекоше: Рави! Сад Јудејци хтедоше да Те убију камењем, па опет хоћеш да идеш онамо?

⁸His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

⁹Исус одговори: Није ли дванаест сахата у дану? Ко дању иде не спотиче се, јер види видело овог света;

⁹Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

¹⁰А ко иде ноћу спотиче се, јер нема видела у њему.

¹⁰But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

¹¹Ово каза, и потом им рече: Лазар, наш пријатељ, заспа; него идем да га пробудим.

¹¹These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹²Онда Му рекоше ученици Његови: Господе! Ако је заспао, устаће.

¹²Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

¹³А Исус им рече за смрт његову, а они мишљаху да говори за спавање сна.

¹³Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

¹⁴Тада им Исус каза управо: Лазар умре.

¹⁴Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

¹⁵И мило ми је вас ради што нисам био онамо да верујете; него хајдемо к њему.

¹⁵And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

¹⁶Онда Тома, који се зваше Близанац, рече ученицима: Хајдемо и ми да помремо с њим.

¹⁶Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

¹⁷А кад дође Исус нађе га, а он већ четири дана у гробу.

¹⁷Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

¹⁸(А Витанија беше близу Јерусалима око петнаест потркалишта.)

¹⁸Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

¹⁹И многи од Јудејаца беху дошли к Марти и Марији да их теше за братом њиховим.

¹⁹And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

²⁰Кад Марта дакле чу да Исус иде, изађе преда Њ, а Марија сеђаше дома.

²⁰Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

²¹Онда рече Марта Исусу: Господе! Да си Ти био овде не би мој брат умро.

²¹Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

²²А и сад знам да шта заиштеш у Бога даће ти Бог.

²²But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

²³Исус јој рече: Брат ће твој устати.

²³Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

²⁴Марта Му рече: Знам да ће устати о васкрсењу, у последњи дан.

²⁴Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

²⁵А Исус јој рече: Ја сам васкрсење и живот; који верује мене ако и умре живеће.

²⁵Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

²⁶И ниједан који живи и верује мене неће умрети вавек. Верујеш ли ово?

²⁶And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

²⁷Рече Му: Да, Господе! Ја веровах да си Ти Христос, Син Божји који је требало да дође на свет.

²⁷She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

²⁸И ово рекавши отиде те зовну тајно Марију, сестру своју говорећи: Учитељ је дошао, и зове те.

²⁸And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

²⁹А она кад чу, уста брзо и отиде к Њему.

²⁹As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

³⁰Јер Исус још не беше дошао у село, него беше на оном месту где Га срете Марта.

³⁰Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

³¹А Јудејци онда који беху с њом у кући и тешаху је, кад видеше Марију да брзо уста и изиђе, пођоше за њом говорећи да иде на гроб да плаче онамо.

³¹The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

³²А Марија како дође где беше Исус, и виде Га, паде на ноге Његове говорећи Му: Господе! Да си Ти био овде, не би умро мој брат.

³²Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

³³Онда Исус кад је виде где плаче, и где плачу Јудејци који дођоше с њом, згрози се у духу, и сам постаде жалостан.

³³When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.

³⁴И рече: Где сте га метнули? Рекоше Му: Господе! Хајде да видиш.

³⁴And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

³⁵Ударише сузе Исусу.

³⁵Jesus wept.

³⁶Онда Јудејци говораху: Гледај како га љубљаше,

³⁶Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

³⁷А неки од њих рекоше: Не могаше ли овај који отвори очи слепцу учинити да и овај не умре?

³⁷And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

³⁸А Исус опет се згрози у себи, и дође на гроб; а беше пећина, и камен лежаше на њој.

³⁸Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

³⁹Исус рече: Узмите камен. Рече Му Марта, сестра оног што је умро: Господе! Већ смрди; јер су четири дана како је умро.

³⁹Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

⁴⁰Исус јој рече: Не рекох ли ти да ако верујеш видећеш славу Божју?

⁴⁰Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

⁴¹Узеше, дакле, камен где лежаше мртвац; а Исус подиже очи горе, и рече: Оче! Хвала Ти што си ме услишио.

⁴¹Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

⁴²А ја знадох да ме свагда слушаш; него рекох народа ради који овде стоји, да верују да си ме Ти послао.

⁴²And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

⁴³И ово рекавши зовну гласно: Лазаре! Изиђи напоље.

⁴³And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

⁴⁴И изиђе мртвац обавит платном по рукама и по ногама, и лице његово убрусом повезано. Исус им рече: Разрешите га и пустите нек иде.

⁴⁴And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁴⁵Онда многи од Јудејаца који беху дошли к Марији и видеше шта учини Исус, вероваше Га.

⁴⁵Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

⁴⁶А неки од њих отидоше к фарисејима и казаше им шта учини Исус.

⁴⁶But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

⁴⁷Онда главари свештенички и фарисеји сабраше скупштину, и говораху: Шта ћемо чинити? Човек овај чини многа чудеса.

⁴⁷Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

⁴⁸Ако га оставимо тако, сви ће га веровати; па ће доћи Римљани и узети нам земљу и народ.

⁴⁸If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

⁴⁹А један од њих, по имену Кајафа, који оне године беше поглавар свештенички, рече им: Ви не знате ништа;

⁴⁹And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

⁵⁰И не мислите да је нама боље да један човек умре за народ, неголи да народ сав пропадне.

⁵⁰Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

⁵¹А ово не рече сам од себе, него, будући поглавар свештенички оне године, прорече да Исусу ваља умрети за народ;

⁵¹And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

⁵²И не само за народ, него да и расејану децу Божију скупи уједно.

⁵²And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

⁵³Од тога, дакле, дана договорише се да Га убију.

⁵³Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

⁵⁴А Исус више не хођаше јавно по Јудејцима, него оданде отиде у крај близу пустиње у град по имену Јефрем, и онде хођаше с ученицима својим.

⁵⁴Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

⁵⁵А беше близу пасха јеврејска, и многи из оног краја дођоше у Јерусалим пре пасхе да се очисте.

⁵⁵And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

⁵⁶Тада тражаху Исуса, и стојећи у цркви говораху међу собом: Шта мислите ви зашто не долази на празник?

⁵⁶Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

⁵⁷А главари свештенички и фарисеји издаше заповест ако Га ко опази где је, да јави да Га ухвате.

⁵⁷Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
