1Och när David blev gammal och levnadsmätt, gjorde han sin son Salomo till konung över Israel.
1And David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2Och han församlade alla Israels furstar, så ock prästerna och leviterna.
2And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3Och leviterna blevo räknade, de nämligen som voro trettio år gamla eller därutöver; och deras antal, antalet av alla personer av mankön, utgjorde trettioåtta tusen.
3And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number, by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.
4»Av dessa», sade han, »skola tjugufyra tusen förestå sysslorna vid HERRENS hus, och sex tusen vara tillsyningsmän och domare;
4Of these, twenty-four thousand were to preside over the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges;
5fyra tusen skola vara dörrvaktare och fyra tusen skola lovsjunga HERREN till de instrumenter som jag har låtit göra för lovsången.»
5and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, [said David,] to praise [therewith].
6Och David delade dem i avdelningar efter Levis söner, Gerson Kehat och Merari.
6And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7Till gersoniterna hörde Laedan och Simei.
7Of the Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei.
8Laedans söner voro Jehiel, huvudmannen, Setam och Joel, tillsammans tre.
8The sons of Laadan: the head was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9Simeis söner voro Selomot, Hasiel och Haran, tillsammans tre. Dessa voro huvudmän för Laedans familjer.
9The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief fathers of Laadan.
10Och Simeis söner voro Jahat, Sina, Jeus och Beria. Dessa voro Simeis söner, tillsammans fyra.
10And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Ziza, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei.
11Jahat var huvudmannen, och Sisa var den andre. Men Jeus och Beria hade icke många barn; därför fingo de utgöra allenast en familj, en ordning.
11And Jahath was the head, and Ziza the second; and Jeush and Beriah had not many sons: as father's house, therefore, they were reckoned as one.
12Kehats söner voro Amram, Jishar, Hebron och Ussiel, tillsammans fyra.
12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13Amrams söner voro Aron och Mose. Och Aron blev jämte sina söner för evärdlig tid avskild till att helgas såsom höghelig, till att för evärdlig tid antända rökelse inför HERREN och göra tjänst inför honom och välsigna i hans namn.
13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated, that he should be hallowed as most holy, he and his sons for ever, to offer before Jehovah, to do service to him, and to bless in his name for ever.
14Men gudsmannen Moses söner räknades till Levi stam.
14-- And as to Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.
15Moses söner voro Gersom och Elieser.
15The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16Gersoms söner voro Sebuel, huvudmannen.
16The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the head.
17Och Eliesers söner voro Rehabja, huvudmannen. Elieser hade inga andra söner; men Rehabjas söner voro övermåttan talrika.
17And the sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the head; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18Jishars söner voro Selomit, huvudmannen.
18-- The sons of Jizhar: Shelomith the head.
19Hebrons söner voro Jeria, huvudmannen, Amarja, den andre, Jahasiel, den tredje, och Jekameam, den fjärde.
19The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the head, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20Ussiels söner voro Mika, huvudmannen, och Jissia, den andre.
20The sons of Uzziel: Micah the head, and Jishijah the second.
21Meraris söner voro Maheli och Musi. Mahelis söner voro Eleasar och Kis.
21The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22När Eleasar dog, lämnade han inga söner efter sig, utan allenast döttrar; men Kis' söner, deras fränder, togo dessa till hustrur.
22And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.
23Musis söner voro Maheli, Eder och Jeremot, tillsammans tre.
23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24Dessa voro Levi barn, efter deras familjer, huvudmännen för familjerna, så många av dem som inmönstrades, vart namn räknat särskilt, var person för sig, de som kunde förrätta sysslor vid tjänstgöringen i HERRENS hus, nämligen de som voro tjugu år gamla eller därutöver.
24These were the sons of Levi according to their fathers' houses, the chief fathers, as they were reckoned, by number of names by their polls, who did the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.
25Ty David sade: »HERREN, Israels Gud, har låtit sitt folk komma till ro, och han har nu sin boning i Jerusalem till evig tid;
25For David said, Jehovah the God of Israel has given rest to his people, and he will dwell in Jerusalem for ever;
26därför behöva icke heller leviterna mer bära tabernaklet och alla redskap till tjänstgöringen därvid.»
26and the Levites also have no more to carry the tabernacle, nor any of its vessels for its service.

27For by the last words of David was this [done], -- the numbering of the sons of Levi from twenty years old and upward.
28De fingo i stället sin plats vid Arons söners sida för tjänstgöringen i HERRENS hus, i vad som rörde förgårdarna och kamrarna och reningen av allt heligt och sysslorna vid tjänstgöringen i Guds hus,
28For their place was by the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, over the courts, and over the chambers, and over the purifying of all holy things, and [for] the work of the service of the house of God;
29vare sig det gällde skådebröden eller det fina mjölet till spisoffret eller de osyrade tunnkakorna eller plåtarna eller det hopknådade mjölet, eller något mått och mål,
29and for the loaves to be set in rows, and for the fine flour for the oblation, and for the unleavened cakes, and for [what is baked in] the pan, and for that which is saturated [with oil], and for all measure of capacity and size;
30eller att var morgon göra tjänst genom att tacka och lova HERREN, och likaledes var afton,
30and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even;
31eller att offra alla brännoffer åt HERREN på sabbaterna, vid nymånaderna och vid högtiderna, till bestämt antal och såsom det var föreskrivet för dem, beständigt, inför HERRENS ansikte.
31and for all burnt-offerings offered up to Jehovah on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before Jehovah;
32De skulle iakttaga vad som var att iakttaga vid uppenbarelsetältet och vid det heliga, vad Arons söner, deras bröder, hade att iakttaga vid tjänstgöringen i HERRENS hus.
32and they kept the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of Jehovah.
