1Vidare sade Elihu:
1And Elihu proceeded and said,
2Bida ännu litet, så att jag får giva dig besked, ty ännu något har jag att säga till Guds försvar.
2Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet words for +God.
3Min insikt vill jag hämta vida ifrån, och åt min skapare vill jag skaffa rätt.
3I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Creator.
4Ja, förvisso skola mina ord icke vara lögn; en man med fullgod insikt har du framför dig.
4For truly my words shall be no falsehood: one perfect in knowledge is with thee.
5Se, Gud är väldig, men han försmår dock ingen, han som är så väldig i sitt förstånds kraft.
5Lo, ùGod is mighty, but despiseth not [any]; mighty in strength of understanding:
6Den ogudaktige låter han ej bliva vid liv, men åt de arma skaffar han rätt.
6He saveth not the wicked alive; but he doeth justice to the afflicted.
7Han tager ej sina ögon från de rättfärdiga; de få trona i konungars krets, för alltid låter han dem sitta där i höghet.
7He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne doth he even set them for ever; and they are exalted.
8Och om de läggas bundna i kedjor och fångas i eländets snaror,
8And if, bound in fetters, they be held in cords of affliction,
9så vill han därmed visa dem vad de hava gjort, och vilka överträdelser de hava begått i sitt högmod;
9Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions, because they have increased.
10han vill då öppna deras öra för tuktan och mana dem att vända om ifrån fördärvet.
10And he openeth their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
11Om de då höra på honom och underkasta sig, så få de framleva sina dagar i lycka och sina år i ljuvlig ro.
11If they hearken and serve [him], they shall accomplish their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12Men höra de honom ej, så förgås de genom vapen och omkomma, när de minst tänka det.
12But if they hearken not, they shall pass away by the sword, and expire without knowledge.
13Ja, de som med gudlöst hjärta hängiva sig åt vrede och icke anropa honom, när han lägger dem i band,
13But the godless in heart heap up anger; they cry not when he bindeth them:
14deras själ skall i deras ungdom ryckas bort av döden, och deras liv skall dela tempelbolares lott.
14Their soul dieth in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
15Genom lidandet vill han rädda den lidande, och genom betrycket vill han öppna hans öra.
15But he delivereth the afflicted in his affliction, and openeth their ear in [their] oppression.
16Så sökte han ock draga dig ur nödens gap, ut på en rymlig plats, där intet trångmål rådde; och ditt bord skulle bliva fullsatt med feta rätter.
16Even so would he have allured thee out of the jaws of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and the supply of thy table [would be] full of fatness.
17Men nu bär du till fullo ogudaktighetens dom; ja, dom och rättvisa hålla dig nu fast.
17But thou art full of the judgments of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee].
18Ty vrede borde ej få uppegga dig under din tuktans tid, och huru svårt du än har måst plikta, borde du ej därav ledas vilse.
18Because there is wrath, [beware] lest it take thee away through chastisement: then a great ransom could not avail thee.
19Huru kan han lära dig bedja, om icke genom nöd och genom allt som nu har prövat din kraft?
19Will he esteem thy riches? Not gold, nor all the resources of strength!
20Du må ej längta så ivrigt efter natten, den natt då folken skola ryckas bort ifrån sin plats.
20Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their place.
21Tag dig till vara, så att du ej vänder dig till vad fördärvligt är; sådant behagar dig ju mer än att lida.
21Take heed, turn not to iniquity; for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
22Se, Gud är upphöjd genom sin kraft. Var finnes någon mästare som är honom lik?
22Lo, ùGod is exalted in his power: who teacheth as he?
23Vem har föreskrivit honom hans väg, och vem kan säga: »Du gör vad orätt är?»
23Who hath appointed him his way? or who hath said, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?
24Tänk då på att upphöja hans gärningar, dem vilka människorna besjunga
24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men celebrate.
25och som de alla skåda med lust, de dödliga, om de än blott skönja dem i fjärran.
25All men look at it; man beholdeth [it] afar off.
26Ja, Gud är för hög för vårt förstånd, hans år äro flera än någon kan utrannsaka.
26Lo, ùGod is great, and we comprehend [him] not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
27Se, vattnets droppar drager han uppåt, och de sila ned såsom regn, där hans dimma går fram;
27For he draweth up the drops of water: they distil in rain from the vapour which he formeth,
28skyarna gjuta dem ut såsom en ström, låta dem drypa ned över talrika människor.
28Which the skies pour down [and] drop upon man abundantly.
29Ja, kan någon fatta molnens utbredning, braket som utgår från hans hydda?
29But can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the crashing of his pavilion?
30Se, sitt ljungeldsljus breder han ut över molnen, och själva havsgrunden höljer han in däri.
30Lo, he spreadeth his light around him, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
31Ty så utför han sina domar över folken; så bereder han ock näring i rikligt mått.
31For with them he judgeth the peoples; he giveth food in abundance.
32I ljungeldsljus höljer han sina händer och sänder det ut mot dem som begynna strid.
32[His] hands he covereth with lightning, and commandeth it where it is to strike.
33Budskap om honom bär hans dunder; själva boskapen bebådar hans antåg.
33His thundering declareth concerning him; the cattle even, concerning its coming.
