1Konungars hjärtan äro i HERRENS hand såsom vattenbäckar: han leder dem varthelst han vill.
1The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
2Var man tycker sin väg vara den rätta, men HERREN är den som prövar hjärtan.
2Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.
3Att öva rättfärdighet och rätt, det är mer värt för HERREN än offer.
3To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice.
4Stolta ögon och högmodigt hjärta -- de ogudaktigas lykta är dem till synd.
4A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
5Den idoges omtanke leder allenast till vinning, men all fikenhet allenast till förlust.
5The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
6De skatter som förvärvas genom falsk tunga, de äro en försvinnande dunst och hasta till döden.
6Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.
7De ogudaktigas övervåld bortrycker dem själva, eftersom de icke vilja göra vad rätt är.
7The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.
8En oärlig mans väg är idel vrånghet, men en rättskaffens man handla redligt
8The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9Bättre är att bo i en vrå på taket än att hava hela huset gemensamt med en trätgirig kvinna.
9It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.
10Den ogudaktiges själ har lust till det onda; hans nästa finner ingen barmhärtighet hos honom.
10The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.
11Straffar man bespottaren, så bliver den fåkunnige vis: och undervisar man den vise, så inhämtar han kunskap.
11When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12Den Rättfärdige giver akt på den ogudaktiges hus, han störtar de ogudaktiga i olycka.
12The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.
13Den som tillsluter sitt öra för den armes rop, han skall själv ropa utan att få svar.
13Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.
14En hemlig gåva stillar vrede och en skänk i lönndom våldsammaste förbittring.
14A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.
15Det är den rättfärdiges glädje att rätt skipa, men det är ogärningsmännens skräck.
15It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
16Den människa som far vilse ifrån förståndets väg, hon hamnar i skuggornas krets.
16The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the dead.
17Den som älskar glada dagar varder fattig; den som älskar vin och olja bliver icke rik.
17He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich.
18Den ogudaktige varder given såsom lösepenning för den rättfärdige, och den trolöse sättes i de redligas ställe.
18The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; the treacherous for the upright.
19Bättre är att bo i ett öde land än med en trätgirig och besvärlig kvinna.
19It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
20Dyrbara skatter och salvor har den vise i sin boning, men en dåraktig människa förslösar sitt gods.
20There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.
21Den som far efter rättfärdighet och godhet, han finner liv, rättfärdighet och ära.
21He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22En vis man kan storma en stad full av hjältar och bryta ned det fäste som var dess förtröstan.
22A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.
23Den som besvarar sin mun och sin tunga han bevarar sitt liv för nöd.
23Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24Bespottare må den kallas, som är fräck och övermodig, den som far fram med fräck förmätenhet.
24The proud and haughty man, “scoffer” is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride.
25Den lates begärelse för honom till döden, i det att hans händer icke vilja arbeta.
25The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
26Den snikne är alltid full av snikenhet; men den rättfärdige giver och spar icke.
26There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold.
27De ogudaktigas offer är en styggelse; mycket mer, när det frambäres i skändligt uppsåt.
27The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
28Ett lögnaktigt vittne skall förgås; men en man som hör på får allt framgent tala.
28A false witness will perish, and a man who listens speaks to eternity.
29En ogudaktig man uppträder fräckt; men den redlige vandrar sina vägar ståndaktigt.
29A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.
30Ingen vishet, intet förstånd, intet råd förmår något mot HERREN.
30There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.
31Hästar rustas ut för stridens dag, men från HERREN är det som segern kommer.
31The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh.
