1คนฟีลิสเตียได้สู้กับคนอิสราเอล และคนอิสราเอลก็หนีไปให้พ้นหน้าคนฟีลิสเตียล้มตายอยู่ที่บนภูเขากิลโบอา
1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
2และคนฟีลิสเตียก็ไล่ทันซาอูลกับพวกราชโอรส และคนฟีลิสเตียก็ฆ่าโยนาธาน อาบีนาดับ และมัลคีชูวา ราชโอรสของซาอูลเสีย
2The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3การรบหนักก็ประชิดซาอูลเข้าไป และนักธนูมาพบพระองค์เข้า พระองค์ก็ทรงบาดเจ็บสาหัสด้วยฝีมือของนักธนู
3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.
4แล้วซาอูลรับสั่งคนถืออาวุธของพระองค์ว่า "จงชักดาบออก แทงเราเสียให้ทะลุเถิด เกรงว่าคนที่มิได้เข้าสุหนัตเหล่านี้จะเข้ามาทำลบหลู่แก่เรา" แต่ผู้ถืออาวุธไม่ยอมกระทำตาม เพราะเขากลัวมาก ซาอูลจึงทรงชักดาบของพระองค์ออก ทรงล้มทับดาบนั้น
4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.
5และเมื่อผู้ถืออาวุธเห็นว่าซาอูลสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว เขาก็ล้มทับดาบของเขาตายด้วย
5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.
6ดังนั้นซาอูลก็สิ้นพระชนม์พร้อมกับราชโอรสทั้งสามของพระองค์ และราชวงศ์ทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์ก็ตายด้วยกัน
6So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.
7เมื่อบรรดาคนอิสราเอลผู้อยู่ในหุบเขาเห็นว่ากองทัพหนีไป และซาอูลกับโอรสของพระองค์ก็สิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว เขาก็ทิ้งบ้านเมืองของเขาและหลบหนีไป คนฟีลิสเตียก็เข้ามาอาศัยอยู่ในนั้น
7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8อยู่มาวันรุ่งขึ้น เมื่อคนฟีลิสเตียมาปลดเสื้อผ้าจากคนที่ถูกฆ่า เขาพบพระศพซาอูลและราชโอรสทั้งสามอยู่บนภูเขากิลโบอา
8It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9เขาก็ถอดเครื่องทรงของพระองค์ เอาพระเศียรและอาวุธของพระองค์ไป และส่งผู้สื่อสารไปทั่วดินแดนฟีลิสเตีย ให้นำข่าวดีไปยังรูปเคารพและประชาชนของเขา
9They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.
10เขาเอาเครื่องอาวุธของพระองค์ไปไว้ในวิหารพระของเขา และเอาพระเศียรของพระองค์มัดไว้ในวิหารของพระดาโกน
10They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
11แต่เมื่อชาวยาเบชกิเลอาดทั้งสิ้นได้ยินเรื่องทั้งหมดที่คนฟีลิสเตียได้กระทำแก่ซาอูล
11When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12ทหารเก่งกล้าทั้งสิ้นก็ลุกขึ้นไปเชิญพระศพของซาอูลและศพโอรสของพระองค์ นำมาที่ยาเบช และเขาก็ฝังพระอัฐินั้นใต้ต้นโอ๊กในยาเบช และได้อดอาหารเจ็ดวัน
12all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13ซาอูลจึงสิ้นพระชนม์ด้วยความละเมิดของพระองค์ซึ่งพระองค์กระทำต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ ในเรื่องที่พระองค์มิได้รักษาพระบัญชาของพระเยโฮวาห์ และได้ทรงแสวงการนำโดยทรงปรึกษาคนทรงด้วย
13So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of the word of Yahweh, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,
14และมิได้ทรงแสวงการนำจากพระเยโฮวาห์ พระเยโฮวาห์จึงทรงสังหารพระองค์เสีย และทรงยกราชอาณาจักรให้แก่ดาวิดบุตรชายเจสซี
14and didn’t inquire of Yahweh: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
