¹เบนฮาดัดกษัตริย์ซีเรียได้ประชุมกองทัพทั้งปวงของท่าน มีกษัตริย์สามสิบสององค์ขึ้นกับท่าน ทั้งม้าและรถรบ และท่านก็ขึ้นไปล้อมสะมาเรีย สู้รบกับเมืองนั้น

¹Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

²และท่านได้ส่งผู้สื่อสารเข้าไปในเมืองหาอาหับกษัตริย์อิสราเอล กล่าวแก่พระองค์ว่า "เบนฮาดัดว่าดังนี้ว่า

²He sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, “Thus says Ben Hadad,

³`เงินและทองคำของท่านเป็นของเรา บรรดาภรรยาและเด็กๆ ที่ดีที่สุดของท่านก็เป็นของเราด้วย'"

³‘Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”

⁴และกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทรงตอบไปว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ เจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า ดังที่ท่านว่ามานั่นแหละ ข้าพเจ้าเป็นของท่าน ทั้งที่ข้าพเจ้ามีอยู่นั้นด้วย"

⁴The king of Israel answered, “It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.”

⁵บรรดาผู้สื่อสารได้กลับมาอีกกล่าวว่า "เบนฮาดัดกล่าวดังนี้ว่า `ข้าพเจ้าส่งข่าวมายังท่านว่า "จงส่งเงินและทองคำของท่าน ภรรยาและเด็กของท่านไปให้ข้าพเจ้า"

⁵The messengers came again, and said, “Ben Hadad says, ‘I sent indeed to you, saying, “You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;

⁶แต่ข้าพเจ้าจะส่งข้าราชการของข้าพเจ้าไปหาท่านพรุ่งนี้ประมาณเวลานี้ เขาทั้งหลายจะค้นวังของท่าน ทั้งบ้านเรือนข้าราชการของท่าน สิ่งใดที่เป็นที่ชอบตาของท่าน เขาจะหยิบเอาไป'"

⁶but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.”’”

⁷แล้วกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลก็เรียกประชุมพวกผู้ใหญ่ทั้งปวงของแผ่นดินตรัสว่า "ขอตรองดูเถิด ดูว่าชายผู้นี้หาช่องก่อความลำบาก เพราะเขาให้คนมารับเมียและลูกของฉัน ทั้งเงินและทองคำของฉัน และฉันก็มิได้ปฏิเสธเขา"

⁷Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, “Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn’t deny him.”

⁸บรรดาผู้ใหญ่และประชาชนทั้งสิ้นก็ทูลพระองค์ว่า "ขออย่าทรงฟังหรือทรงยินยอมพ่ะย่ะค่ะ"

⁸All the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, neither consent.”

⁹พระองค์จึงรับสั่งแก่ผู้สื่อสารของเบนฮาดัดว่า "จงไปทูลกษัตริย์ เจ้านายของข้าพเจ้าว่า `บรรดาสิ่งที่ท่านเอาจากผู้รับใช้ของท่านในครั้งแรกนั้น ข้าพเจ้าจะกระทำตาม แต่สิ่งนี้ข้าพเจ้าปฏิบัติตามไม่ได้'" และผู้สื่อสารก็จากไปและกลับมารายงาน

⁹Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do.’” The messengers departed, and brought him back the message.

¹⁰เบนฮาดัดส่งข่าวกลับมาว่า "ถ้าผงคลีแห่งสะมาเรียจะพอแก่คนที่ติดตามข้าพเจ้ามาสักคนละหยิบมือหนึ่ง ก็ขอให้พระทั้งหลายลงโทษข้าพเจ้าและยิ่งหนักกว่า"

¹⁰Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”

¹¹และกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทรงตอบไปว่า "ขอทูลท่านว่า `ขอท่านผู้ที่สวมเกราะ อย่าอวดอ้างอย่างผู้ที่ถอดเกราะแล้วเลย'"

¹¹The king of Israel answered, “Tell him, ‘Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

¹²ต่อมาเมื่อเบนฮาดัดได้ยินข่าวนี้ขณะที่ดื่มอยู่กับบรรดากษัตริย์ทั้งหลายที่ในทับอาศัย ท่านก็สั่งข้าราชการของท่านว่า "จงเข้าประจำที่" และเขาทั้งหลายก็เข้าประจำที่เพื่อต่อสู้กับเมืองนั้น

¹²It happened, when Ben Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, “Prepare to attack!” They prepared to attack the city.

¹³ดูเถิด ผู้พยากรณ์คนหนึ่งเข้ามาใกล้อาหับกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทูลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า เจ้าเห็นกองทัพใหญ่นี้หรือ ดูเถิด เราจะมอบไว้ในมือของเจ้าในวันนี้ เจ้าจะได้รู้ว่าเราคือพระเยโฮวาห์"

¹³Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’”

¹⁴และอาหับตรัสว่า "ทรงใช้ใครทำ" เขาทูลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า ด้วยมือของมหาดเล็กของเจ้านายประจำจังหวัดทั้งหลาย" แล้วพระองค์ตรัสว่า "ใครจะเริ่มรบ" เขาทูลตอบว่า "พระองค์พ่ะย่ะค่ะ"

¹⁴Ahab said, “By whom?” He said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.”

¹⁵พระองค์จึงทรงจัดมหาดเล็กของเจ้านายประจำจังหวัดเหล่านั้นซึ่งมีสองร้อยสามสิบสองคนด้วยกัน และภายหลังทรงจัดพลทั้งหมดคือบรรดาคนอิสราเอลรวมพลเจ็ดพันคน

¹⁵Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

¹⁶เขาทั้งหลายยกออกไปในเวลาเที่ยงวัน ฝ่ายเบนฮาดัดกำลังดื่มเมาอยู่ในทับอาศัย ทั้งท่านและกษัตริย์อีกสามสิบสององค์ที่ช่วยท่าน

¹⁶They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.

¹⁷พวกมหาดเล็กของเจ้านายประจำจังหวัดได้ยกออกไปก่อน เบนฮาดัดก็ส่งออกไป เขาทั้งหลายรายงานท่านว่า "มีคนยกออกมาจากสะมาเรีย"

¹⁷The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, “Men are coming out from Samaria.”

¹⁸ท่านจึงว่า "ถ้าเขาออกมาด้วยสันติจงจับเขามาเป็นๆ หรือถ้าเขาออกมาทำศึกจงจับเขามาเป็นๆ"

¹⁸He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

¹⁹คนเหล่านี้จึงออกไปจากเมืองคือพวกมหาดเล็กของเจ้านายประจำจังหวัด และกองทัพซึ่งติดตามคนเหล่านี้

¹⁹So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.

²⁰และต่างก็ฆ่าคู่รบของตน คนซีเรียหนีและคนอิสราเอลไล่ติดตามเขาไป แต่เบนฮาดัดกษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียทรงม้าหนีไปกับทหารม้า

²⁰They each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.

²¹กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลก็ออกไปโจมตีม้าและรถรบ และประหารชนซีเรียเสียอย่างใหญ่โต

²¹The king of Israel went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.

²²แล้วผู้พยากรณ์ผู้นั้นได้เข้ามาใกล้กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทูลพระองค์ว่า "มาเถิด ขอเสริมกำลังของพระองค์ และตรึกตรองดูว่าพระองค์จะทรงกระทำประการใด เพราะสิ้นปีนี้กษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียจะยกกองทัพมาสู้กับพระองค์อีก"

²²The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.”

²³ข้าราชการของกษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียทูลท่านว่า "พระทั้งหลายของเขาเป็นพระแห่งภูเขา เขาทั้งหลายจึงแข็งกว่าเรา แต่ขอให้เราสู้รบกับเขาในที่ราบ แล้วเราจะต้องแข็งกว่าเขาแน่นอนทีเดียว

²³The servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

²⁴ขอกระทำอย่างนี้ ขอปลดกษัตริย์เสียทุกองค์จากตำแหน่งและตั้งนายทหารขึ้นแทน

²⁴Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.

²⁵และเกณฑ์กองทัพเข้าแทนส่วนที่ล้มตายไปในคราวก่อน ม้าแทนม้า รถรบแทนรถรบ แล้วเราทั้งหลายจะสู้รบกับเขาในที่ราบ เราจะต้องแข็งกว่าเขาแน่นอนทีเดียว" และท่านก็ฟังเสียงของเขาทั้งหลายและกระทำตาม

²⁵Muster an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than them.” He listened to their voice, and did so.

²⁶และอยู่มาพอสิ้นปีแล้วเบนฮาดัดก็เกณฑ์ชนซีเรีย ยกขึ้นไปถึงเมืองอาเฟกเพื่อสู้รบกับอิสราเอล

²⁶It happened at the return of the year, that Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

²⁷และประชาชนอิสราเอลก็ถูกเกณฑ์ และอยู่พร้อมกันหมด และยกออกไปต่อสู้กับเขา ประชาชนอิสราเอลตั้งค่ายตรงหน้าเขาเหมือนอย่างแพะสองฝูงเล็กๆ แต่คนซีเรียเต็มท้องทุ่งไปหมด

²⁷The children of Israel were mustered, and were provisioned, and went against them. The children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats; but the Syrians filled the country.

²⁸และคนของพระเจ้าคนหนึ่งได้เข้าไปใกล้และทูลกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า เพราะคนซีเรียได้กล่าวว่า `พระเยโฮวาห์เป็นพระเจ้าแห่งภูเขา พระองค์มิได้เป็นพระเจ้าแห่งหุบเขา' เพราะฉะนั้นเราจะมอบประชาชนหมู่ใหญ่นี้ไว้ในมือของเจ้า และเจ้าจะได้รู้ว่าเราคือพระเยโฮวาห์"

²⁸A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys”; therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’”

²⁹แล้วเขาก็ตั้งค่ายตรงข้ามกันอยู่เจ็ดวัน แล้วในวันที่เจ็ดก็ปะทะกัน ประชาชนอิสราเอลก็ฆ่าคนซีเรียซึ่งเป็นทหารราบเสียหนึ่งแสนคนในวันเดียว

²⁹They encamped one over against the other seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Syrians in one day.

³⁰เหลือนอกนั้นก็หนีเข้าเมืองอาเฟก และกำแพงเมืองล้มทับคนที่เหลือนอกนั้นเสียสองหมื่นเจ็ดพันคน เบนฮาดัดก็หนีไปด้วย และเข้าไปในห้องชั้นในที่ในเมือง

³⁰But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

³¹และข้าราชการของท่านมาทูลว่า "ดูเถิด เราได้ยินว่ากษัตริย์แห่งวงศ์วานอิสราเอลเป็นกษัตริย์ที่ทรงเมตตา ขอให้เราเอาผ้ากระสอบคาดเอว และเอาเชือกพันศีรษะของเรา และออกไปหากษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล ชะรอยท่านจะไว้ชีวิตของพระองค์"

³¹His servants said to him, “See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life.”

³²เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงเอาผ้ากระสอบคาดเอวและเอาเชือกพันศีรษะ และเขาไปเฝ้ากษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทูลว่า "เบนฮาดัดผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์สั่งมาว่า `ได้โปรดเถิด ขอให้ข้าพเจ้ารอดชีวิตอยู่'" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "ท่านยังมีชีวิตหรือ ท่านเป็นน้องของเรา"

³²So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

³³ฝ่ายคนเหล่านั้นกำลังหาช่องอยู่แล้ว เขาทั้งหลายก็รีบตอบโดยเร็วว่า "พระเจ้าข้า เบนฮาดัดอนุชาของพระองค์" แล้วพระองค์ตรัสว่า "ไปเถอะและนำท่านมา" แล้วเบนฮาดัดก็ออกมาหาพระองค์ แล้วพระองค์ก็ให้ท่านขึ้นไปบนรถรบ

³³Now the men observed diligently, and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

³⁴และเบนฮาดัดทูลว่า "หัวเมืองซึ่งบิดาของข้าพเจ้ายึดเอาไปจากราชบิดาของท่านนั้น ข้าพเจ้าขอคืนให้พระองค์ พระองค์จะสร้างถนนหนทางของพระองค์ในเมืองดามัสกัสก็ได้ อย่างที่บิดาข้าพเจ้าทำไว้ในสะมาเรีย" แล้วอาหับตรัสว่า "เราจะยอมให้ท่านไปตามพันธสัญญานี้" พระองค์จึงทำพันธสัญญากับท่าน และปล่อยท่านไป

³⁴Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I,” said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.

³⁵มีชายคนหนึ่งในเหล่าศิษย์แห่งผู้พยากรณ์พูดกับเพื่อนของตนตามพระบัญชาของพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ได้โปรดเถอะ ขอตีฉันที" แต่ชายคนนั้นก็ปฏิเสธไม่ยอมตีท่าน

³⁵A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of Yahweh, “Please strike me!” The man refused to strike him.

³⁶แล้วท่านจึงพูดกับเขาว่า "เพราะท่านไม่เชื่อฟังพระสุรเสียงของพระเยโฮวาห์ ดูเถิด พอท่านออกไปจากข้าพเจ้า สิงโตตัวหนึ่งจะสังหารท่าน" พอเขาจากท่านไป สิงโตตัวหนึ่งก็มาพบเขาและสังหารเขาเสีย

³⁶Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you.” As soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.

³⁷แล้วท่านไปพบชายอีกคนหนึ่ง และท่านว่า "ได้โปรดเถอะ ขอตีฉันที" ชายคนนั้นได้ตีท่านและทำให้ท่านฟกช้ำ

³⁷Then he found another man, and said, “Please strike me.” The man struck him, smiting and wounding him.

³⁸ผู้พยากรณ์ผู้นั้นจึงจากไป และไปคอยพบกษัตริย์อยู่ที่หนทาง ใส่ขี้เถ้าบนหน้าปลอมตัวเสีย

³⁸So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.

³⁹พอกษัตริย์ทรงผ่านไป ท่านก็ร้องทูลกษัตริย์ว่า "ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์เข้าไปในกลางศึก และดูเถิด ทหารคนหนึ่งหันมา และนำชายคนหนึ่งมาให้ข้าพระองค์ บอกว่า `จงระวังชายคนนี้ไว้นะ ถ้าเขาหลุดไปได้โดยเหตุใดๆ ชีวิตของท่านจะต้องแทนชีวิตของเขา หรือมิฉะนั้นท่านจะต้องเสียเงินตะลันต์หนึ่ง'

³⁹As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, “Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man! If by any means he be missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

⁴⁰และเมื่อข้าพระองค์ติดธุระอยู่ที่นี่ที่นั่น เขาก็หายไป" กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลตรัสกับท่านว่า "โทษของเจ้าต้องเป็นอย่างนั้นแหละ เพราะเจ้าเองได้ตัดสินแล้ว"

⁴⁰As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.” The king of Israel said to him, “So your judgment shall be; you yourself have decided it.”

⁴¹แล้วท่านก็รีบเอาขี้เถ้าออกจากหน้าของตน และกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลก็จำท่านได้ว่า เป็นผู้พยากรณ์คนหนึ่ง

⁴¹He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was of the prophets.

⁴²และท่านจึงทูลพระองค์ว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า เพราะเจ้าได้ปล่อยชายคนที่อยู่ในมือของเจ้า ผู้ซึ่งเราได้กำหนดให้ทำลายนั้น ชีวิตของเจ้าจะต้องแทนชีวิตของเขา และชนชาติของเจ้าแทนชนชาติของเขา"

⁴²He said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’”

⁴³และกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลก็เสด็จเข้าไปในพระราชวังด้วยอารมณ์ขุ่นมัวและไม่พอพระทัยยิ่งนัก และเสด็จมาสะมาเรีย

⁴³The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.
