1แล้วซามูเอลก็หยิบขวดน้ำมันเทลงบนศีรษะของซาอูล และจุบท่านแล้วกล่าวว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมท่านไว้ให้เป็นเจ้านายเหนือมรดกของพระองค์แล้วมิใช่หรือ
1Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it on his head, and kissed him, and said, “Isn’t it that Yahweh has anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?
2เมื่อท่านจากฉันไปในวันนี้ ท่านจะพบชายสองคนริมที่ฝังศพของนางราเชลในเขตแดนเบนยามินที่เศลซาห์ และเขาทั้งสองจะบอกท่านว่า `ลาซึ่งท่านไปหานั้นพบแล้ว ดูเถิด บัดนี้บิดาของท่านเลิกกังวลเรื่องลาแล้ว และร้อนใจเรื่องของท่าน กล่าวว่า "เราจะทำอย่างไรเรื่องบุตรชายของเราดี"'
2When you have departed from me today, then you shall find two men by Rachel’s tomb, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will tell you, ‘The donkeys which you went to seek have been found; and behold, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys, and is anxious for you, saying, “What shall I do for my son?”’
3และท่านจะเดินเลยที่นั่นไปถึงที่ราบตำบลทาโบร์ ที่นั่นชายสามคนซึ่งกำลังขึ้นไปเฝ้าพระเจ้าที่เบธเอลจะพบท่าน คนหนึ่งอุ้มลูกแพะสามตัว อีกคนหนึ่งถือขนมปังสามก้อน และอีกคนหนึ่งถือถุงหนังน้ำองุ่นถุงหนึ่ง
3“Then you shall go on forward from there, and you shall come to the oak of Tabor; and three men shall meet you there going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
4เขาทั้งหลายจะคำนับท่านและมอบขนมปังให้ท่านสองก้อน ซึ่งท่านจะรับจากมือของเขา
4and they will greet you, and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive of their hand.
5ต่อจากนั้นท่านจะมาถึงภูเขาของพระเจ้า ที่นั่นมีกองทหารรักษาการของคนฟีลิสเตีย อยู่มาเมื่อท่านมาถึงเมืองนั้น ท่านจะพบผู้พยากรณ์หมู่หนึ่งกำลังลงมาจากปูชนียสถานสูง ถือพิณใหญ่ รำมะนา ปี่ พิณเขาคู่ นำหน้ามา กำลังพยากรณ์เรื่อยมา
5“After that you shall come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall happen, when you have come there to the city, that you shall meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tambourine, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying:
6แล้วพระวิญญาณของพระเยโฮวาห์จะมาสถิตกับท่าน และท่านจะพยากรณ์กับคนเหล่านั้น เปลี่ยนเป็นคนละคน
6and the Spirit of Yahweh will come mightily on you, and you shall prophesy with them, and shall be turned into another man.
7เมื่อหมายสำคัญเหล่านี้เกิดแก่ท่านแล้ว จงกระทำอะไรตามแต่มีโอกาสเถิด เพราะพระเจ้าทรงสถิตกับท่าน
7Let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do as occasion shall serve you; for God is with you.
8และท่านจงลงไปที่กิลกาลก่อนฉัน และดูเถิด ฉันจะลงมาหาท่านเพื่อจะถวายเครื่องเผาบูชา และถวายสัตว์เป็นเครื่องสันติบูชา ท่านจงคอยอยู่ที่นั่นเจ็ดวันจนฉันมาหาท่าน และสำแดงแก่ท่านว่าท่านควรจะกระทำอะไร"
8“You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: you shall wait seven days, until I come to you, and show you what you shall do.”
9เมื่อซาอูลหันหลับไปจะจากซามูเอล พระเจ้าทรงประทานจิตใจอีกอย่างหนึ่งแก่ท่าน และหมายสำคัญเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดเกิดขึ้นในวันนั้น
9It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs happened that day.
10เมื่อเขาทั้งสองมาถึงภูเขานั้น ดูเถิด ผู้พยากรณ์หมู่หนึ่งพบกับท่าน และพระวิญญาณของพระเจ้าสถิตกับท่าน และท่านก็พยากรณ์อยู่ในหมู่พวกเขา
10When they came there to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily on him, and he prophesied among them.
11และต่อมาเมื่อคนทั้งหลายที่รู้จักท่านมาก่อนเห็นว่า ดูเถิด ท่านพยากรณ์อยู่กับพวกผู้พยากรณ์ ประชาชนเหล่านั้นก็พูดกันและกันว่า "อะไรหนอเกิดขึ้นแก่บุตรชายของคีช ซาอูลอยู่ในจำพวกผู้พยากรณ์ด้วยหรือ"
11It happened, when all who knew him before saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, “What is this that has come to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”
12ชายคนหนึ่งอยู่ที่นั่นตอบว่า "และบิดาของเขาทั้งหลายคือใคร" ดังนั้นจึงเป็นคำภาษิตว่า "ซาอูลอยู่ในจำพวกผู้พยากรณ์ด้วยหรือ"
12One of the same place answered, “Who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
13เมื่อท่านพยากรณ์สิ้นลงแล้ว ท่านก็มายังปูชนียสถานสูง
13When he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14ฝ่ายลุงของซาอูลจึงถามซาอูลกับคนใช้ว่า "เจ้าไปไหนมา" และท่านตอบว่า "ไปหาลา และเมื่อเราเห็นว่าเราไม่พบลานั้นแล้ว เราจึงไปหาซามูเอล"
14Saul’s uncle said to him and to his servant, “Where did you go?” He said, “To seek the donkeys. When we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.”
15ลุงของซาอูลกล่าวว่า "ซามูเอลบอกอะไรแก่เจ้าบ้าง ขอเล่าให้ฟัง"
15Saul’s uncle said, “Please tell me what Samuel said to you.”
16และซาอูลตอบลุงของท่านว่า "เขาบอกเราแจ่มแจ้งว่าพบลาแล้ว" แต่เรื่องราวที่เกี่ยวกับราชอาณาจักร ซึ่งซามูเอลกล่าวถึงนั้นท่านไม่ได้บอกสิ่งใดเลย
16Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys were found.” But concerning the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he didn’t tell him.
17ฝ่ายซามูเอลจึงเรียกประชาชนมาประชุมต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ที่มิสปาห์
17Samuel called the people together to Yahweh to Mizpah;
18และท่านกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `เราได้นำอิสราเอลออกจากอียิปต์ และเราได้ช่วยเจ้าทั้งหลายให้พ้นจากมือของชาวอียิปต์ และจากมือของราชอาณาจักรทั้งหลาย และของคนเหล่านั้นที่บีบบังคับเจ้า'
18and he said to the children of Israel, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:’
19แต่วันนี้ท่านละทิ้งพระเจ้าของท่านผู้ซึ่งช่วยท่านให้พ้นจากบรรดาความยากลำบากและความทุกข์ร้อน และท่านทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า `เราไม่ยอม แต่ขอตั้งกษัตริย์ไว้เหนือเรา' เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ท่านทั้งหลายจงเข้าเฝ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ตามตระกูลของท่าน และตามคนที่นับเป็นพันๆของท่าน"
19but you have this day rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, ‘No! Set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before Yahweh by your tribes, and by your thousands.”
20แล้วซามูเอลก็นำตระกูลอิสราเอลทุกตระกูลเข้ามาใกล้ และจับสลากได้ตระกูลเบนยามิน
20So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21ท่านก็นำตระกูลเบนยามินเข้ามาใกล้ตามครอบครัว จับสลากได้ครอบครัวมัตรี และจับสลากได้ซาอูลบุตรชายคีช แต่เมื่อเขาหาซาอูลก็หาไม่พบ
21He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families; and the family of the Matrites was taken; and Saul the son of Kish was taken: but when they sought him, he could not be found.
22เขาจึงทูลถามพระเยโฮวาห์ต่อไปว่า "ชายคนนั้นมาที่นี่หรือยัง" และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด เขาซ่อนตัวอยู่ที่กองสัมภาระ"
22Therefore they asked of Yahweh further, “Is there yet a man to come here?” Yahweh answered, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
23เขาทั้งหลายจึงวิ่งไปพาท่านมาจากที่นั่น และเมื่อท่านยืนอยู่ท่ามกลางประชาชน ท่านก็สูงกว่าประชาชนทุกคนจากบ่าขึ้นไป
23They ran and fetched him there; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24ซามูเอลจึงกล่าวแก่ประชาชนทั้งปวงว่า "ท่านเห็นผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเลือกไว้แล้วหรือ ในท่ามกลางประชาชนไม่มีใครเหมือนท่าน" และประชาชนจึงร้องเสียงดังว่า "ขอกษัตริย์ทรงพระเจริญ"
24Samuel said to all the people, “You see him whom Yahweh has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?” All the people shouted, and said, “Let the king live!”
25แล้วซามูเอลจึงบอกกับประชาชนให้ทราบถึงสิทธิและหน้าที่ของตำแหน่งกษัตริย์ และท่านบันทึกไว้ในหนังสือ และวางถวายต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ แล้วซามูเอลก็ให้ประชาชนกลับไปยังบ้านของตนทุกคน
25Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before Yahweh. Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26ซาอูลก็กลับไปยังบ้านของท่านที่กิเบอาห์ด้วย และมีพวกนักรบซึ่งพระเจ้าทรงดลจิตใจไปกับท่านด้วย
26Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the army, whose hearts God had touched.
27แต่มีคนอันธพาลบางคนกล่าวว่า "ชายคนนี้จะช่วยเราให้พ้นได้อย่างไร" และเขาทั้งหลายก็ดูหมิ่นท่าน ไม่นำเครื่องบรรณาการมาถวาย แต่ท่านก็นิ่งเสีย
27But certain worthless fellows said, “How shall this man save us?” They despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.
