¹อยู่มาเมื่อซาอูลเสด็จกลับจากการไล่ตามคนฟีลิสเตียแล้ว มีคนมาทูลว่า "ดูเถิด ดาวิดอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารเมืองเอนเกดี"

¹It happened, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”

²แล้วซาอูลก็ทรงนำพลที่คัดเลือกจากบรรดาคนอิสราเอลแล้วสามพันคนไปแสวงหาดาวิดกับคนของท่านที่หินเลียงผา

²Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.

³และพระองค์เสด็จมาที่คอกแกะริมทาง มีถ้ำอยู่ถ้ำหนึ่งที่นั่น และซาอูลก็เสด็จเข้าไปส่งทุกข์ ฝ่ายดาวิดกับคนของท่านนั่งอยู่ที่ส่วนลึกที่สุดของถ้ำ

³He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

⁴คนของดาวิดก็เรียนท่านว่า "ดูเถิด วันนี้เป็นวันที่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับท่านว่า `ดูเถิด เราจะมอบศัตรูของเจ้าไว้ในมือของเจ้า เพื่อเจ้าจะได้ทำกับเขาตามที่เจ้าเห็นควร'" แล้วดาวิดก็ลุกขึ้นเข้าไปตัดชายฉลองพระองค์ของซาอูลอย่างลับๆ

⁴The men of David said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

⁵ต่อมาภายหลังใจของดาวิดก็ตำหนิตัวท่านเอง เพราะท่านได้ตัดชายฉลองพระองค์ของซาอูล

⁵It happened afterward, that David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.

⁶ท่านว่าแก่คนของท่านว่า "ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงห้ามไม่ให้ข้าพเจ้ากระทำสิ่งนี้ต่อเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งเป็นผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมตั้งไว้ คือที่จะเหยียดมือออกต่อสู้กับท่าน ด้วยว่าท่านเป็นผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้"

⁶He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to put forth my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

⁷ดาวิดก็ห้ามผู้รับใช้ของท่านด้วยถ้อยคำเหล่านี้ และไม่ยอมให้เขาทั้งหลายทำร้ายซาอูล และซาอูลก็ทรงลุกขึ้นออกจากถ้ำเสด็จไปตามทางของพระองค์

⁷So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

⁸ภายหลังดาวิดก็ลุกขึ้นด้วย และออกไปจากถ้ำร้องทูลซาอูลว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์" และเมื่อซาอูลทรงเหลียวดู ดาวิดก็ก้มลงถึงดินกราบไหว้

⁸David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.

⁹และดาวิดทูลซาอูลว่า "ไฉนพระองค์ทรงฟังถ้อยคำของคนที่กล่าวว่า `ดูเถิด ดาวิดแสวงที่จะทำร้ายพระองค์'

⁹David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks your hurt?’

¹⁰ดูเถิด วันนี้พระเนตรของพระองค์ประจักษ์แล้วว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบพระองค์ในวันนี้ไว้ในมือของข้าพระองค์ที่ในถ้ำ และบางคนได้ขอให้ข้าพระองค์ประหารพระองค์เสีย แต่ข้าพระองค์ก็ได้ไว้พระชนม์ของพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์พูดว่า `ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ยื่นมือออกทำร้ายเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า เพราะพระองค์เป็นผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้'

¹⁰Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you; but I spared you; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Yahweh’s anointed.

¹¹ยิ่งกว่านั้นเสด็จพ่อของข้าพระองค์ได้ขอดูชายฉลองพระองค์ในมือของข้าพระองค์ โดยเหตุที่ว่าข้าพระองค์ได้ตัดชายฉลองพระองค์ออก และมิได้ประหารพระองค์เสีย ขอพระองค์ทรงทราบและทรงเห็นเถิดว่า ในมือของข้าพระองค์ไม่มีความชั่วร้ายหรือการละเมิด ข้าพระองค์มิได้กระทำบาปต่อพระองค์ แม้ว่าพระองค์จะล่าชีวิตของข้าพระองค์เพื่อจะเอาชีวิตข้าพระองค์

¹¹Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.

¹²ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพิพากษาระหว่างข้าพระองค์และพระองค์ ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงแก้แค้นแทนข้าพระองค์ต่อพระองค์ แต่มือของข้าพระองค์จะไม่กระทำอะไรต่อพระองค์

¹²May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.

¹³ดังสุภาษิตโบราณว่า `ความชั่วร้ายก็ออกมาจากคนชั่ว' แต่มือของข้าพระองค์จะไม่กระทำอะไรต่อพระองค์

¹³As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes forth wickedness;’ but my hand shall not be on you.

¹⁴กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลออกมาตามผู้ใด พระองค์ไล่ตามผู้ใด ไล่ตามสุนัขที่ตายแล้ว ไล่ตามตัวหมัด

¹⁴Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

¹⁵เพราะฉะนั้นขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเป็นผู้พิพากษา และขอทรงประทานคำพิพากษาระหว่างข้าพระองค์และพระองค์ และทอดพระเนตร และขอว่าความฝ่ายข้าพระองค์ และขอทรงช่วยข้าพระองค์ให้พ้นหัตถ์ของพระองค์"

¹⁵May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

¹⁶อยู่มาเมื่อดาวิดทูลคำเหล่านี้ต่อซาอูลแล้ว ซาอูลตรัสว่า "ดาวิดบุตรของข้าเอ๋ย นั่นเป็นเสียงของเจ้าหรือ" ซาอูลก็ทรงส่งเสียงกันแสง

¹⁶It came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

¹⁷พระองค์ตรัสกับดาวิดว่า "เจ้าชอบธรรมยิ่งกว่าข้า เพราะเจ้าตอบแทนข้าด้วยความดี ในเมื่อข้าได้ตอบแทนเจ้าด้วยความร้าย

¹⁷He said to David, “You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.

¹⁸เจ้าได้ประกาศในวันนี้แล้วว่า เจ้าได้กระทำความดีต่อข้าอย่างไร ในการที่เจ้ามิได้ประหารข้าเสียในเมื่อพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบข้าไว้ในมือของเจ้าแล้ว

¹⁸You have declared this day how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.

¹⁹เพราะว่าผู้ใดพบศัตรูของตน เขาจะยอมให้ปลอดภัยไปหรือดังนั้น ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำดีแก่เจ้าสนองการที่เจ้าได้กระทำแก่ข้าในวันนี้

¹⁹For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me this day.

²⁰บัดนี้ ดูเถิด ข้าประจักษ์แล้วว่า เจ้าจะเป็นกษัตริย์แน่ และราชอาณาจักรอิสราเอลจะสถาปนาอยู่ในมือของเจ้า

²⁰Now, behold, I know that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

²¹เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้จงปฏิญาณให้แก่ข้าในพระนามของพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า เจ้าจะไม่ตัดเชื้อสายรุ่นหลังของข้าเสีย และเจ้าจะไม่ทำลายชื่อของข้าเสียจากวงศ์วานบิดาของข้า"

²¹Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh, that you will not cut off my seed after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

²²ดาวิดก็ปฏิญาณให้แก่ซาอูล แล้วซาอูลก็เสด็จกลับพระราชวัง และดาวิดกับคนของท่านก็ขึ้นไปยังที่กำบังเข้มแข็ง

²²David swore to Saul. Saul went home; but David and his men went up to the stronghold.
