1ชาวศิฟมาหาซาอูลที่เมืองกิเบอาห์ทูลว่า "ดาวิดซ่อนตัวอยู่บนเขาฮาคีลาห์ ซึ่งอยู่ตรงหน้าเยชิโมนมิใช่หรือ"
1The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?”
2ซาอูลจึงทรงลุกขึ้นลงไปที่ถิ่นทุรกันดารศิฟ พร้อมกับชายอิสราเอลที่คัดเลือกแล้วสามพันคน เพื่อแสวงดาวิดในถิ่นทุรกันดารศิฟ
2Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3และซาอูลทรงตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่เขาฮาคีลาห์ ซึ่งอยู่ข้างถนนซึ่งอยู่ตรงหน้าเยชิโมน แต่ดาวิดยังคงอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร และท่านเห็นว่าซาอูลเสด็จมาหาท่านที่ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร
3Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4เพราะฉะนั้นดาวิดส่งผู้สอดแนมออกไป จึงทราบว่าซาอูลทรงยกมาแน่แล้ว
4David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come.
5แล้วดาวิดก็ลุกขึ้นมายังที่ซึ่งซาอูลทรงตั้งค่ายอยู่ และดาวิดก็เห็นที่ที่ซาอูลบรรทมพร้อมกับอับเนอร์บุตรชายเนอร์แม่ทัพ ซาอูลบรรทมอยู่กลางเขตค่าย ฝ่ายกองทัพก็ตั้งค่ายอยู่รอบพระองค์
5David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army: and Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.
6แล้วดาวิดก็พูดกับอาหิเมเลคคนฮิตไทต์ และกับอาบีชัยบุตรชายของนางเศรุยาห์ น้องชายของโยอาบว่า "ผู้ใดจะลงไปในค่ายของซาอูลกับเราบ้าง" อาบีชัยตอบว่า "ข้าพเจ้าจะลงไปกับท่าน"
6Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
7ดาวิดและอาบีชัยจึงลงไปที่กองทัพในเวลากลางคืน และดูเถิด ซาอูลบรรทมอยู่กลางเขตค่าย หอกของพระองค์ปักอยู่ที่ที่ดินตรงพระเศียร อับเนอร์กับพวกพลก็นอนล้อมพระองค์อยู่
7So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay around him.
8อาบีชัยพูดกับดาวิดว่า "ในวันนี้พระเจ้าทรงมอบศัตรูของท่านไว้ในมือของท่านแล้ว บัดนี้ขอให้ข้าพเจ้าแทงเขาด้วยหอกให้ติดดิน ครั้งเดียวก็พอ และข้าพเจ้าไม่ต้องแทงเขาครั้งที่สอง"
8Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”
9แต่ดาวิดบอกอาบีชัยว่า "ขออย่าทำลายพระองค์เลย เพราะผู้ใดเล่าจะเหยียดมือออกต่อสู้ผู้ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้ และจะไม่มีความผิด"
9David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him; for who can put forth his hand against Yahweh’s anointed, and be guiltless?”
10และดาวิดกล่าวว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงฆ่าพระองค์ท่านเอง หรือจะถึงวันกำหนดที่พระองค์ต้องสิ้นพระชนม์ หรือพระองค์จะเสด็จเข้าสงครามและพินาศเสีย
10David said, “As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.
11ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงห้ามปรามข้าพเจ้าไม่ให้เหยียดมือออกต่อสู้ผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้ บัดนี้จงเอาหอกที่อยู่ตรงพระเศียรกับเหยือกน้ำ และให้เราไปกันเถิด"
11Yahweh forbid that I should put forth my hand against Yahweh’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go.”
12ดาวิดจึงเอาหอกและเหยือกน้ำจากที่พระเศียรของซาอูล และเขาทั้งสองก็ออกไป ไม่มีใครเห็น ไม่มีใครทราบ และไม่มีคนใดตื่น เพราะเขาหลับสนิททุกคน เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบันดาลให้เขาหลับสนิท
12So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head; and they went away: and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them.
13และดาวิดก็ข้ามไปอีกฟากหนึ่งไปยืนอยู่บนยอดเขาไกลออกไป มีที่ว่างกว้างใหญ่ระหว่างทั้งสองฝ่าย
13Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;
14ดาวิดก็ตะโกนเรียกพวกพลและเรียกอับเนอร์บุตรชายเนอร์ว่า "อับเนอร์เอ๋ย ท่านไม่ตอบหรือ" แล้วอับเนอร์ตอบว่า "ใครนั่นที่มาร้องเรียกกษัตริย์"
14and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Don’t you answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who cries to the king?”
15และดาวิดตอบอับเนอร์ว่า "ท่านไม่ใช่ผู้ชายแกล้วกล้าดอกหรือ ในอิสราเอลมีใครเหมือนท่านบ้าง ทำไมท่านไม่เฝ้ากษัตริย์เจ้านายของท่านไว้ให้ดี เพราะมีคนหนึ่งเข้าไปจะทำลายกษัตริย์เจ้านายของท่าน
15David said to Abner, “Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.
16ที่ท่านกระทำเช่นนี้ไม่ดีแน่ พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด ท่านสมควรตายเพราะท่านมิได้เฝ้าเจ้านายของท่านไว้ให้ดี ผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้ บัดนี้ตรวจดูทีว่า หอกของกษัตริย์อยู่ที่ไหน และเหยือกน้ำที่ตรงพระเศียรนั้นอยู่ที่ไหน"
16This thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”
17ซาอูลทรงจำสำเนียงดาวิดได้จึงตรัสว่า "ดาวิดบุตรของข้าเอ๋ย นี่เป็นเสียงของเจ้าหรือ" และดาวิดทูลว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ เป็นเสียงข้าพระองค์พ่ะย่ะค่ะ"
17Saul knew David’s voice, and said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”
18และท่านทูลต่อไปว่า "ไฉนเจ้านายของข้าพระองค์จึงไล่ตามผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ได้กระทำอะไรไป มือข้าพระองค์ผิดอย่างไรเล่า
18He said, “Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?
19เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ขอกษัตริย์เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ทรงฟังเสียงผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปลุกปั่นพระองค์ให้ต่อสู้ข้าพระองค์ ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ให้ได้รับเครื่องถวาย ถ้าเป็นบุตรทั้งหลายของมนุษย์ยุก็ขอให้คนนั้นเป็นที่สาปแช่งต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ เพราะเขาได้ขับไล่ข้าพระองค์ออกไปในวันนี้มิให้ได้ส่วนมรดกของพระเยโฮวาห์ โดยกล่าวว่า `จงไปปรนนิบัติพระอื่น'
19Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out this day that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’
20เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ ขออย่าให้โลหิตของข้าพระองค์ตกถึงดินต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ เพราะกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลได้ออกมาหาชีวิตหมัดตัวเดียว ดังผู้หนึ่งไล่ตามนกกระทาอยู่บนภูเขา"
20Now therefore, don’t let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
21แล้วซาอูลตรัสว่า "ข้าได้กระทำบาปแล้ว ดาวิดบุตรของเราเอ๋ย จงกลับไปเถิด ด้วยว่าเราจะไม่ทำร้ายเจ้าอีกต่อไป เพราะในวันนี้ชีวิตของเราก็ประเสริฐในสายตาของเจ้า ดูเถิด เราประพฤติตัวเป็นคนเขลาและได้กระทำผิดอย่างเหลือหลาย"
21Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”
22และดาวิดทูลว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ ดูเถิด หอกของกษัตริย์อยู่ที่นี่ ขอรับสั่งให้คนหนุ่มคนหนึ่งมารับไปจากที่นี่
22David answered, “Behold the spear, O king! Then let one of the young men come over and get it.
23พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประทานรางวัลแก่ทุกคนตามความชอบธรรมและความสัตย์ซื่อของเขา เพราะในวันนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบพระองค์ไว้ในมือของข้าพระองค์แล้ว แต่ข้าพระองค์มิได้เหยียดมือออกต่อสู้ผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเจิมไว้
23Yahweh will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t put forth my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.
24ดูเถิด ชีวิตของพระองค์นั้นประเสริฐในสายตาของข้าพระองค์ในวันนี้ฉันใด ก็ขอให้ชีวิตของข้าพระองค์ประเสริฐในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ฉันนั้น และขอพระองค์ทรงช่วยข้าพระองค์ให้พ้นจากบรรดาความทุกข์ลำบากทั้งสิ้นด้วย"
24Behold, as your life was respected this day in my eyes, so let my life be respected in the eyes of Yahweh, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.”
25แล้วซาอูลจึงตรัสกับดาวิดว่า "ดาวิดบุตรของเราเอ๋ย ขอพระเจ้าทรงอวยพรเจ้า เจ้าจะกระทำสิ่งที่ยิ่งใหญ่และจะสำเร็จแน่" ดาวิดจึงไปตามทางของท่าน และซาอูลก็เสด็จกลับสู่ราชสำนักของพระองค์
25Then Saul said to David, “You are blessed, my son David. You shall both do mightily, and shall surely prevail.” So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
