1อยู่มาเมื่อซามูเอลแก่แล้ว ท่านได้ตั้งพวกบุตรชายของท่านให้วินิจฉัยอิสราเอล
1It happened, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2บุตรหัวปีของท่านชื่อโยเอล และคนที่สองชื่ออาบียาห์ ทั้งสองเป็นผู้วินิจฉัยในเมืองเบเออร์เชบา
2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah: they were judges in Beersheba.
3แต่บุตรชายของท่านมิได้ดำเนินในทางของท่าน ได้เลี่ยงไปหากำไร เขารับสินบนและบิดเบือนความยุติธรรมเสีย
3His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
4และบรรดาพวกผู้ใหญ่ของอิสราเอลก็พากันมาหาซามูเอลที่เมืองรามาห์
4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah;
5และเรียนท่านว่า "ดูเถิด ท่านชราแล้ว และบุตรชายของท่านมิได้ดำเนินในทางของท่าน บัดนี้ขอท่านได้กำหนดตั้งกษัตริย์ให้วินิจฉัยพวกเราอย่างประชาชาติทั้งหลายเถิด"
5and they said to him, “Behold, you are old, and your sons don’t walk in your ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
6แต่เมื่อเขาพูดว่า "ขอตั้งกษัตริย์ให้วินิจฉัยเราทั้งหลาย" ก็กระทำให้ซามูเอลไม่พอใจ และซามูเอลได้ทูลอธิษฐานต่อพระเยโฮวาห์
6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to Yahweh.
7และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงตอบซามูเอลว่า "จงฟังเสียงประชาชนในเรื่องทั้งสิ้นที่เขาทั้งหลายขอต่อเจ้า เพราะว่าเขามิได้ละทิ้งเจ้า แต่เขาทั้งหลายได้ละทิ้งเรา ไม่ให้เราครอบครองเหนือเขา
7Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
8ตามการกระทำทั้งสิ้นซึ่งเขาได้กระทำตั้งแต่วันที่เรานำเขาออกมาจากอียิปต์จนถึงวันนี้ คือเขาได้ละทิ้งเราและปรนนิบัติพระอื่น เขาจึงกระทำเช่นเดียวกันต่อเจ้าด้วย
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also to you.
9เหตุฉะนั้นบัดนี้จงฟังเสียงของเขา ขอแต่จงคอยทักท้วงเขา และสำแดงให้ทราบถึงวิธีการของกษัตริย์ผู้ที่จะครอบครองเขาทั้งหลาย"
9Now therefore listen to their voice: however you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who shall reign over them.”
10ซามูเอลจึงเอาพระดำรัสทั้งสิ้นของพระเยโฮวาห์มาบอกกล่าวแก่ประชาชนผู้ร้องขอให้ท่านตั้งกษัตริย์
10Samuel told all the words of Yahweh to the people who asked of him a king.
11ท่านกล่าวว่า "นี่เป็นวิธีการของกษัตริย์ผู้ที่จะครอบครองเหนือเจ้า กษัตริย์จะเกณฑ์บุตรชายทั้งหลายของเจ้าและกำหนดให้ประจำรถรบ และให้เป็นพลม้า และให้วิ่งหน้ารถรบของพระองค์
11He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them to him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;
12แล้วพระองค์จะตั้งเขาให้เป็นนายพัน นายห้าสิบของพระองค์ ให้บางคนไถที่ดินของพระองค์และเกี่ยวข้าว และทำศัสตราวุธ และเครื่องใช้ของรถรบ
12and he will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.
13พระองค์จะนำบุตรสาวของเจ้าไปเป็นผู้ปรุงเครื่องหอม ทำครัวและปิ้งขนม
13He will take your daughters to be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
14พระองค์จะเอานา สวนองุ่นและสวนมะกอกเทศที่ดีที่สุดของเจ้าให้แก่ข้าราชการของพระองค์
14He will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive groves, even their best, and give them to his servants.
15พระองค์จะชักหนึ่งในสิบของพืชผลและผลองุ่นของท่านให้แก่มหาดเล็กและข้าราชการของพระองค์
15He will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
16พระองค์จะเอาคนใช้ผู้ชายและคนใช้ผู้หญิง และคนหนุ่มๆที่ดีที่สุดของท่าน และลาของท่านให้ไปทำงานของพระองค์
16He will take your male servants, and your female servants, and your best young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work.
17พระองค์จะชักหนึ่งในสิบของฝูงสัตว์ของท่าน และท่านทั้งหลายจะเป็นทาสของพระองค์
17He will take the tenth of your flocks: and you shall be his servants.
18ในวันนั้นท่านจะร้องทุกข์เพราะกษัตริย์ของท่าน ผู้ซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายได้เลือกนั้น แต่พระเยโฮวาห์จะไม่สดับท่านในวันนั้น"
18You shall cry out in that day because of your king whom you shall have chosen you; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day.”
19แต่ประชาชนปฏิเสธไม่เชื่อฟังเสียงของซามูเอล เขาทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า "เราไม่ยอม แต่เราจะต้องมีกษัตริย์ปกครองเรา
19But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No; but we will have a king over us,
20เพื่อเราจะเป็นเหมือนประชาชาติทั้งหลายด้วย และเพื่อกษัตริย์ของเราจะวินิจฉัยเรา และนำหน้าเราไปและรบศึกให้เรา"
20that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
21และเมื่อซามูเอลได้ยินถ้อยคำทั้งสิ้นของประชาชน ท่านก็นำไปทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ให้ทรงทราบ
21Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahweh.
22และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับซามูเอลว่า "จงฟังเสียงของเขาทั้งหลายเถิด และจงตั้งกษัตริย์องค์หนึ่งให้เขา" แล้วซามูเอลจึงกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลว่า "ให้ทุกคนกลับไปยังเมืองของตน"
22Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man go to his city.”
