¹ชาวคีริยาทเยอาริมได้มาเชิญหีบแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ขึ้นไปถึงเรือนของอาบีนาดับซึ่งอยู่บนเนินเขา และเขาทั้งหลายก็ชำระเอเลอาซาร์บุตรชายของเขาให้บริสุทธิ์เพื่อให้ดูแลหีบแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์

¹The men of Kiriath Jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Yahweh, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Yahweh.

²อยู่มานับแต่วันที่หีบนั้นอยู่ที่คีริยาทเยอาริมก็เป็นเวลาช้านานตั้งยี่สิบปี และบรรดาวงศ์วานอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นก็คร่ำครวญถึงพระเยโฮวาห์

²It happened, from the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

³แล้วซามูเอลพูดกับวงศ์วานอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นว่า "ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายจะกลับมาหาพระเยโฮวาห์ด้วยสิ้นสุดใจของท่าน จงทิ้งพระต่างด้าวและพระอัชทาโรทเสียจากท่ามกลางท่านทั้งหลาย และเตรียมใจของท่านให้ตรงต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ และปรนนิบัติแต่พระองค์เท่านั้น พระองค์จะทรงช่วยท่านให้พ้นจากมือของคนฟีลิสเตีย"

³Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you do return to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁴คนอิสราเอลจึงทิ้งพระบาอัลและพระอัชทาโรท และเขาทั้งหลายปรนนิบัติแต่พระเยโฮวาห์เท่านั้น

⁴Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.

⁵แล้วซามูเอลกล่าวว่า "จงประชุมคนอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นที่เมืองมิสปาห์และข้าพเจ้าจะอธิษฐานต่อพระเยโฮวาห์เพื่อท่าน"

⁵Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to Yahweh.”

⁶เขาทั้งหลายจึงประชุมกันที่มิสปาห์ และตักน้ำมาเทออกถวายต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ และอดอาหารในวันนั้นและกล่าวที่นั่นว่า "เราทั้งหลายได้กระทำบาปต่อพระเยโฮวาห์" และซามูเอลก็วินิจฉัยคนอิสราเอลที่เมืองมิสปาห์

⁶They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

⁷เมื่อคนฟีลิสเตียได้ยินว่าคนอิสราเอลได้ประชุมกันที่เมืองมิสปาห์ เจ้านายแห่งฟีลิสเตียก็ยกขึ้นไปต่อสู้กับอิสราเอล และเมื่อคนอิสราเอลได้ยินเช่นนั้นเขาก็กลัวคนฟีลิสเตีย

⁷When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

⁸และคนอิสราเอลร้องต่อซามูเอลว่า "อย่าหยุดร้องทูลพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราเพื่อเราทั้งหลาย เพื่อขอพระองค์ทรงช่วยเราให้พ้นจากมือของคนฟีลิสเตีย"

⁸The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t cease to cry to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁹ซามูเอลก็เอาลูกแกะอ่อนที่ยังกินนมอยู่ตัวหนึ่งมาถวายเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชาทั้งตัวแด่พระเยโฮวาห์ และซามูเอลร้องทูลต่อพระเยโฮวาห์เพื่อคนอิสราเอล และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสดับท่าน

⁹Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh: and Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him.

¹⁰ขณะที่ซามูเอลถวายเครื่องเผาบูชาอยู่นั้น คนฟีลิสเตียก็เข้ามาใกล้จะสู้รบกับอิสราเอล แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงให้ฟ้าร้องเสียงดังยิ่งนักในวันนั้นสู้กับคนฟีลิสเตีย กระทำให้คนฟีลิสเตียสับสนอลหม่าน จึงพ่ายแพ้แก่อิสราเอล

¹⁰As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

¹¹คนอิสราเอลก็ออกจากมิสปาห์ติดตามคนฟีลิสเตียและฆ่าฟันเขา จนไปถึงเมืองเบธคาร์

¹¹The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar.

¹²แล้วซามูเอลก็เอาศิลาก้อนหนึ่งตั้งไว้ระหว่างมิสปาห์และเชน เรียกชื่อศิลานั้นว่า เอเบนเอเซอร์ เพราะท่านกล่าวว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงช่วยพวกเราจนบัดนี้"

¹²Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, “Ebenezer” means “stone of help.” saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

¹³ดังนั้นคนฟีลิสเตียจึงพ่ายแพ้ไม่เข้ามาในดินแดนอิสราเอลอีก และพระหัตถ์แห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ต่อสู้คนฟีลิสเตียตลอดชีวิตของซามูเอล

¹³So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel. The hand of Yahweh was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

¹⁴หัวเมืองที่คนฟีลิสเตียได้ยึดไปจากอิสราเอลนั้น ก็ได้กลับคืนมายังอิสราเอล ตั้งแต่เมืองเอโครนถึงเมืองกัทและอิสราเอลก็ได้ตีดินแดนของหัวเมืองเหล่านี้คืนมาจากมือของคนฟีลิสเตีย ครั้งนั้นมีสันติภาพระหว่างอิสราเอลและคนอาโมไรต์ด้วย

¹⁴The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

¹⁵ซามูเอลได้วินิจฉัยคนอิสราเอลอยู่ตลอดชีวิตของท่าน

¹⁵Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

¹⁶และท่านก็เที่ยวไปโดยรอบทุกปีเป็นประจำ ไปถึงเมืองเบธเอล กิลกาล และมิสปาห์ และท่านก็วินิจฉัยคนอิสราเอลในบรรดาเมืองเหล่านั้น

¹⁶He went from year to year in circuit to Bethel and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

¹⁷แล้วท่านจะกลับมายังเมืองรามาห์ เพราะว่าบ้านของท่านอยู่ที่นั่น ท่านก็วินิจฉัยคนอิสราเอลที่นั่นด้วย ท่านได้สร้างแท่นบูชาถวายแด่พระเยโฮวาห์ที่นั่น

¹⁷His return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar to Yahweh.
