¹อาบียาห์จึงล่วงหลับไปอยู่กับบรรพบุรุษของพระองค์ เขาก็ฝังพระศพไว้ในนครดาวิด และอาสาโอรสของพระองค์ได้ขึ้นครองแทนพระองค์ ในรัชกาลของอาสาแผ่นดินได้สงบอยู่สิบปี

¹So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

²และอาสาทรงกระทำสิ่งที่ดีและชอบในสายพระเนตรพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพระองค์

²Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of Yahweh his God:

³พระองค์ทรงกำจัดแท่นบูชาพระต่างด้าวและปูชนียสถานสูงทั้งหลาย และพังเสาศักดิ์สิทธิ์ลง และได้โค่นเสารูปเคารพเสีย

³for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and cut down the Asherim,

⁴และทรงบัญชาให้ยูดาห์แสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของตน และให้รักษาพระราชบัญญัติและพระบัญญัติ

⁴and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

⁵พระองค์ทรงกำจัดปูชนียสถานสูงและแท่นเครื่องหอมออกเสียจากหัวเมืองทั้งสิ้นของยูดาห์ด้วย และราชอาณาจักรก็ได้สงบอยู่ภายใต้พระองค์

⁵Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

⁶พระองค์ทรงสร้างหัวเมืองที่มีป้อมในยูดาห์ เพราะแผ่นดินก็สงบ พระองค์มิได้ทำสงครามในปีเหล่านั้น เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประทานการหยุดพักสงบแก่พระองค์

⁶He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.

⁷และพระองค์ตรัสกับยูดาห์ว่า "ให้เราทั้งหลายสร้างหัวเมืองเหล่านี้ ล้อมด้วยกำแพง หอคอย ประตูเมือง และดาน แผ่นดินยังเป็นของเรา เพราะเราได้แสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเรา เราได้แสวงหาพระองค์ และพระองค์ได้ทรงประทานการหยุดพักสงบทุกด้าน" เขาทั้งหลายจึงสร้างและจำเริญขึ้น

⁷For he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities, and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

⁸และอาสาทรงมีกองทัพสรรพด้วยโล่ใหญ่และหอกจากยูดาห์สามแสนคน และจากเบนยามินซึ่งถือโล่และโก่งธนูสองแสนแปดหมื่นคน ทั้งสิ้นเป็นทแกล้วทหาร

⁸Asa had an army that bore bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred eighty thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.

⁹เศ-ราห์ชาวเอธิโอเปียได้ออกมาต่อสู้กับเขาทั้งหลายด้วยกองทัพหนึ่งล้านคน และรถรบสามร้อยคันมาถึงเมืองมาเรชาห์

⁹There came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million troops, and three hundred chariots; and he came to Mareshah.

¹⁰และอาสาทรงยกออกไปปะทะกับเขา และเขาทั้งหลายก็ตั้งแนวรบในหุบเขาเศฟาธาห์ที่มาเรชาห์

¹⁰Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

¹¹และอาสาร้องทูลต่อพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพระองค์ว่า "ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ไม่มีผู้ใดช่วยได้อย่างพระองค์ ในการสู้รบกันระหว่างผู้ที่มีกำลังกับผู้ที่ไม่มีกำลัง ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลาย ขอทรงช่วยพวกข้าพระองค์ เพราะข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายพึ่งพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายมาต่อสู้กับชนหมู่ใหญ่นี้ในพระนามของพระองค์ ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลาย ขออย่าให้มนุษย์ชนะพระองค์"

¹¹Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”

¹²พระเยโฮวาห์จึงทรงให้ชาวเอธิโอเปียพ่ายแพ้ต่ออาสาและต่อยูดาห์ และชาวเอธิโอเปียก็หนีไป

¹²So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

¹³อาสาและพลที่อยู่กับพระองค์ก็ไล่ตามเขาไปถึงเมืองเก-ราร์ และชาวเอธิโอเปียล้มตายมากจนไม่เหลือสักชีวิตเดียว เพราะเขาได้แตกพ่ายต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์และกองทัพของพระองค์ คนยูดาห์ได้เก็บของที่ริบได้มากมายนักหนา

¹³Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Yahweh, and before his army; and they carried away very much booty.

¹⁴และเขาก็โจมตีบรรดาหัวเมืองรอบเมืองเก-ราร์ เพราะว่าความกลัวพระเยโฮวาห์นั้นมาครอบเขาทั้งหลาย เขาได้ปล้นหัวเมืองทั้งสิ้น เพราะมีของที่ริบได้ในนั้นมาก

¹⁴They struck all the cities around Gerar; for the fear of Yahweh came on them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.

¹⁵และเขาได้โจมตีเต็นท์ของผู้ที่มีวัว และเอาแกะไปมากมายและอูฐด้วย แล้วเขาก็กลับไปยังเยรูซาเล็ม

¹⁵They struck also the tents of livestock, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
