1ในปีที่สิบแปดของรัชกาลเยโฮชาฟัทกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ เยโฮรัมโอรสของอาหับได้เริ่มครอบครองเหนืออิสราเอล ณ กรุงสะมาเรีย และทรงครองอยู่สิบสองปี
1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
2พระองค์ทรงกระทำสิ่งที่ชั่วในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ แต่ไม่เหมือนราชบิดาและราชมารดาของพระองค์ พระองค์ทรงทำลายเสาศักดิ์สิทธิ์แห่งพระบาอัล ซึ่งราชบิดาของพระองค์ทรงสร้างนั้นเสีย
2He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
3แม้กระนั้นพระองค์ยังทรงเกาะติดอยู่กับบาปทั้งหลายของเยโรโบอัมบุตรชายเนบัท ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงกระทำให้อิสราเอลทำบาปด้วย พระองค์หาได้ทรงพรากจากบาปนั้นไม่
3Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he didn’t depart from it.
4ฝ่ายเมชากษัตริย์แห่งโมอับทรงเป็นผู้ดำเนินกิจการเลี้ยงแกะ และพระองค์ต้องถวายลูกแกะหนึ่งแสนตัว และแกะผู้หนึ่งแสนตัวพร้อมกับขนของมันให้แก่กษัตริย์อิสราเอล
4Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of one hundred thousand lambs, and of one hundred thousand rams.
5แต่อยู่มาเมื่ออาหับสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว กษัตริย์แห่งโมอับก็กบฏต่อกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล
5But it happened, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6กษัตริย์เยโฮรัมจึงกรีธาทัพออกจากสะมาเรียในครั้งนั้น และทรงเกณฑ์คนอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้น
6King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
7พระองค์ทรงส่งสารไปยังเยโฮชาฟัทกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ว่า "กษัตริย์แห่งโมอับได้กบฏต่อข้าพเจ้า ท่านจะไปรบกับโมอับพร้อมกับข้าพเจ้าได้หรือไม่" และท่านว่า "เราจะไป เราก็เป็นดังที่ท่านเป็น และประชาชนของเราก็เป็นดังประชาชนของท่าน บรรดาม้าของเราก็เป็นดังม้าของท่าน"
7He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
8แล้วท่านว่า "เราจะขึ้นไปทางใด" เยโฮรัมทรงตอบไปว่า "ไปทางถิ่นทุรกันดารเมืองเอโดม"
8He said, “Which way shall we go up?” He answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”
9กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลจึงเสด็จไปพร้อมกับกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ และกษัตริย์แห่งเอโดม และเมื่อทั้งสามกษัตริย์เสด็จอ้อมไปได้เจ็ดวันแล้วก็หาน้ำให้กองทัพและให้สัตว์ที่ติดตามมานั้นไม่ได้
9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey. There was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.
10แล้วกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลจึงตรัสว่า "อนิจจาเอ๋ย พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเรียกสามกษัตริย์นี้มาเพื่อจะมอบไว้ในมือของโมอับ"
10The king of Israel said, “Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
11และเยโฮชาฟัทตรัสว่า "ที่นี่ไม่มีผู้พยากรณ์ของพระเยโฮวาห์ เพื่อเราจะให้ทูลถามพระเยโฮวาห์หรือ" แล้วข้าราชการคนหนึ่งของกษัตริย์อิสราเอลจึงทูลว่า "เอลีชาบุตรชาฟัทอยู่ที่นี่พระเจ้าข้า เป็นผู้ที่เทน้ำใส่มือเอลียาห์"
11But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.”
12และเยโฮชาฟัทตรัสว่า "พระวจนะแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์อยู่กับท่าน" กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลและเยโฮชาฟัทและกษัตริย์แห่งเอโดมจึงเสด็จลงไปหาท่าน
12Jehoshaphat said, “The word of Yahweh is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13และเอลีชาทูลกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลว่า "ข้าพระองค์มีเรื่องอะไรเกี่ยวข้องกับพระองค์ เสด็จไปหาผู้พยากรณ์ของเสด็จพ่อและผู้พยากรณ์ของเสด็จแม่ของพระองค์เถิด" แต่กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลตรัสกับท่านว่า "หามิได้ ด้วยพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเป็นผู้เรียกกษัตริย์ทั้งสามนี้มาเพื่อมอบไว้ในมือของโมอับ"
13Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No; for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
14และเอลีชาทูลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาซึ่งข้าพระองค์ปรนนิบัติทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด ถ้าข้าพระองค์มิได้เคารพคารวะต่อพระพักตร์เยโฮชาฟัทกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์แล้ว ข้าพระองค์จะไม่มองพระพักตร์พระองค์หรือดูแลพระองค์เลย
14Elisha said, “As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
15ขอทรงนำผู้เล่นเครื่องสายมาให้ข้าพระองค์สักคนหนึ่ง" และต่อมาเมื่อผู้เล่นเครื่องสายบรรเลงแล้ว พระหัตถ์ของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็มาเหนือท่าน
15But now bring me a minstrel.” It happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Yahweh came on him.
16และท่านทูลว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า `ทำหุบเขานี้ให้เป็นสระทั่วไปหมด'
16He said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’
17เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายจะไม่เห็นลมและจะไม่เห็นฝน ถึงอย่างไรก็ดีหุบเขานั้นจะมีน้ำเต็มไปหมด เพื่อเจ้าจะได้ดื่ม ทั้งเจ้า ฝูงสัตว์เลี้ยงและสัตว์ใช้ของเจ้า'
17For thus says Yahweh, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your animals.
18เรื่องอย่างนี้เป็นเรื่องเล็กน้อยในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์จะทรงมอบคนโมอับไว้ในมือของเจ้าด้วย
18This is but a light thing in the sight of Yahweh. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
19เจ้าจะโจมตีเมืองที่มีป้อมทุกเมือง และเมืองเอกทุกเมือง และจะโค่นต้นไม้ลงทุกต้น และจะจุกน้ำพุทุกแห่งเสีย และทำไร่นาที่ดีทุกแปลงให้เสียด้วยหิน"
19You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”
20และอยู่มาพอรุ่งเช้าประมาณเวลาถวายเครื่องธัญญบูชา ดูเถิด มีน้ำมาจากทางเมืองเอโดม จนแผ่นดินมีน้ำเต็มหมด
20It happened in the morning, about the time of offering the offering, that behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
21และเมื่อคนโมอับทั้งหลายได้ยินว่าบรรดากษัตริย์ยกไปสู้รบกับตน คนที่มีอายุสวมเกราะและสูงขึ้นไปก็ได้รวบรวมกันเข้า และยกไปตั้งที่พรมแดน
21Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.
22เมื่อเขาตื่นขึ้นในตอนเช้า และดวงอาทิตย์ส่องแสงอยู่บนน้ำ คนโมอับเห็นน้ำที่อยู่ตรงข้ามกับตนแดงอย่างโลหิต
22They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood.
23เขาทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า "นี่เป็นโลหิต บรรดากษัตริย์ได้สู้รบกันเอง และฆ่ากันเอง เพราะฉะนั้นบัดนี้ โมอับเอ๋ย มาริบเอาข้าวของของเขา"
23They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!”
24แต่เมื่อเขามาถึงค่ายอิสราเอล คนอิสราเอลก็ลุกขึ้นต่อสู้กับคนโมอับจนเขาทั้งหลายหนีไป และเขาก็รุกหน้าเข้าไปในแผ่นดินฆ่าฟันคนโมอับ
24When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.
25เขาทั้งหลายได้ทลายหัวเมือง และต่างคนก็ต่างโยนหินเข้าไปในไร่นาที่ดีทุกแปลงจนเต็ม เขาจุกน้ำพุเสียทุกแห่ง และโค่นต้นไม้ดีๆเสียหมด จนในคีร์หะเรเชทมีแต่หินของเมืองเหลืออยู่ บรรดานักสลิงได้ล้อมเมืองไว้และโจมตีได้
25They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth only they left its stones; however the men armed with slings went about it, and struck it.
26เมื่อกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับทรงเห็นว่าจะสู้ไม่ได้ พระองค์ก็ทรงพาพลดาบเจ็ดร้อยคนจะตีฝ่าออกมาทางด้านกษัตริย์เมืองเอโดม แต่ออกมาไม่ได้
26When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
27แล้วพระองค์ทรงนำโอรสหัวปี ผู้ซึ่งควรจะขึ้นครองแทนนั้น ถวายเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชาเสียที่บนกำแพง และมีพระพิโรธใหญ่ยิ่งต่อพวกอิสราเอล เขาทั้งหลายก็ยกถอยไปจากพระองค์และกลับบ้านเมืองของตน
27Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
