1ฝ่ายเหล่าศิษย์แห่งผู้พยากรณ์กล่าวกับเอลีชาว่า "ดูเถิด สถานที่ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายอยู่ใต้ความดูแลของท่านนั้นก็เล็กเกินไป ไม่พอแก่พวกเรา
1The sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell before you is too small for us.
2ขอให้เราไปที่แม่น้ำจอร์แดน ต่างคนต่างเอาไม้ท่อนหนึ่งมาสร้างที่อาศัยของเราที่นั่น" และท่านตอบว่า "ไปเถอะ"
2Please let us go to the Jordan, and every man take a beam from there, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell.” He answered, “Go!”
3แล้วคนหนึ่งกล่าวว่า "ขอท่านโปรดไปกับผู้รับใช้ของท่านด้วย" และท่านก็ตอบว่า "ข้าจะไป"
3One said, “Please be pleased to go with your servants.” He answered, “I will go.”
4ท่านก็ไปกับเขาทั้งหลาย และเมื่อเขามาถึงแม่น้ำจอร์แดนเขาก็โค่นต้นไม้
4So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan, they cut down wood.
5ขณะที่คนหนึ่งฟันไม้อยู่ หัวขวานของเขาตกลงไปในน้ำ และเขาร้องขึ้นว่า "อนิจจา นายครับ ขวานนั้นผมขอยืมเขามา"
5But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water. Then he cried, and said, “Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.”
6แล้วคนแห่งพระเจ้าถามว่า "ขวานนั้นตกที่ไหน" เมื่อเขาชี้ที่ให้ท่านแล้ว ท่านก็ตัดไม้อันหนึ่งทิ้งลงไปที่นั่น ทำให้ขวานเหล็กนั้นลอยขึ้นมา
6The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” He showed him the place. He cut down a stick, threw it in there, and made the iron float.
7และท่านบอกว่า "หยิบขึ้นมาซิ" เขาก็เอื้อมมือไปหยิบขึ้นมา
7He said, “Take it.” So he put out his hand and took it.
8ฝ่ายกษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียรบพุ่งกับอิสราเอล พระองค์ปรึกษากับข้าราชการของพระองค์ว่า "เราจะตั้งค่ายของเราที่นั่นๆ"
8Now the king of Syria was warring against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
9แต่คนแห่งพระเจ้าส่งข่าวไปยังกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลว่า "ขอพระองค์ทรงระวังอย่าผ่านมาทางนั้น เพราะคนซีเรียกำลังยกลงไปที่นั่น"
9The man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you not pass such a place; for the Syrians are coming down there.”
10และกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทรงใช้ให้ไปยังสถานที่ซึ่งคนแห่งพระเจ้าบอกและเตือนให้ พระองค์จึงทรงระวังตัวได้ที่นั่นมิใช่เพียงครั้งสองครั้ง
10The king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once nor twice.
11กษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียก็ไม่สบายพระทัยมากเพราะเรื่องนี้ พระองค์จึงทรงเรียกข้าราชการมาตรัสว่า "พวกท่านจะไม่บอกเราหรือว่า คนใดในพวกเราที่อยู่ฝ่ายกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล"
11The heart of the king of Syria was very troubled about this. He called his servants, and said to them, “Won’t you show me which of us is for the king of Israel?”
12ข้าราชการคนหนึ่งของพระองค์ทูลว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ ไม่มีผู้ใดพระเจ้าข้า แต่เอลีชาผู้พยากรณ์ซึ่งอยู่ในอิสราเอลทูลบรรดาถ้อยคำซึ่งพระองค์ตรัสในห้องบรรทมของพระองค์แก่กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล"
12One of his servants said, “No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”
13พระองค์จึงตรัสว่า "จงไปหาดูว่า เขาอยู่ที่ไหน เพื่อเราจะใช้คนไปจับเขามา" มีคนทูลพระองค์ว่า "ดูเถิด เขาอยู่ในโดธาน"
13He said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” It was told him, saying, “Behold, he is in Dothan.”
14พระองค์จึงทรงส่งม้า รถรบ และกองทัพใหญ่ เขาไปกันในกลางคืนและล้อมเมืองนั้นไว้
14Therefore he sent horses, chariots, and a great army there. They came by night, and surrounded the city.
15เมื่อคนใช้ของคนแห่งพระเจ้าตื่นขึ้นเวลาเช้าตรู่และออกไป ดูเถิด กองทัพพร้อมกับม้าและรถรบก็ล้อมเมืองไว้ และคนใช้นั้นบอกท่านว่า "อนิจจา นายของข้าพเจ้า เราจะทำอย่างไรดี"
15When the servant of the man of God had risen early, and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was around the city. His servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16ท่านตอบว่า "อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะฝ่ายเรามีมากกว่าฝ่ายเขา"
16He answered, “Don’t be afraid; for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17แล้วเอลีชาก็อธิษฐานว่า "ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ขอทรงเบิกตาของเขาเพื่อเขาจะได้เห็น" และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเบิกตาของชายหนุ่มคนนั้น และเขาก็ได้เห็นและดูเถิด ที่ภูเขาก็เต็มไปด้วยม้า และรถรบเพลิงอยู่รอบเอลีชา
17Elisha prayed, and said, “Yahweh, please open his eyes, that he may see.” Yahweh opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
18และเมื่อคนซีเรียลงมารบกับท่าน เอลีชาก็อธิษฐานต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "ขอทรงโปรดให้คนเหล่านี้ตาบอดไปเสีย" พระองค์จึงทรงให้เขาทั้งหลายตาบอดไปตามคำของเอลีชา
18When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19และเอลีชาบอกคนเหล่านั้นว่า "ไม่ใช่ทางนี้ และไม่ใช่เมืองนี้ จงตามข้ามา และข้าจะพาไปยังคนนั้นซึ่งเจ้าแสวงหา" และท่านก็พาเขาไปกรุงสะมาเรีย
19Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, neither is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” He led them to Samaria.
20และอยู่มาพอเข้าไปในกรุงสะมาเรีย เอลีชาก็ทูลว่า "ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ขอทรงเบิกตาของคนเหล่านี้ เพื่อเขาจะเห็นได้" พระเยโฮวาห์จึงทรงเบิกตาของเขาทั้งหลายและเขาทั้งหลายก็เห็น และดูเถิด เขามาอยู่กลางกรุงสะมาเรีย
20It happened, when they had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, “Yahweh, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.” Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw; and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21และเมื่อกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลเห็นเขาเข้า จึงตรัสแก่เอลีชาว่า "บิดาของข้าพเจ้า จะให้ข้าพเจ้าฆ่าเขาเสียหรือ จะให้ข้าพเจ้าฆ่าเขาเสียหรือ"
21The king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, “My father, shall I strike them? Shall I strike them?”
22ท่านก็ทูลตอบว่า "ขอพระองค์อย่าทรงประหารเขาเสีย พระองค์จะประหารคนที่จับมาเป็นเชลยเสียด้วยดาบและด้วยธนูของพระองค์หรือ ขอทรงโปรดจัดอาหารและน้ำต่อหน้าเขา เพื่อให้เขารับประทานและดื่ม แล้วปล่อยให้เขาไปหาเจ้านายของเขาเถิด"
22He answered, “You shall not strike them. Would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.”
23พระองค์จึงทรงจัดการเลี้ยงใหญ่ให้เขา และเมื่อเขาได้กินและดื่มแล้วก็ทรงปล่อยเขาไป และเขาทั้งหลายได้กลับไปหาเจ้านายของตน และพวกซีเรียมิได้มาปล้นในแผ่นดินอิสราเอลอีกเลย
23He prepared great feast for them. When they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. The bands of Syria stopped raiding the land of Israel.
24และอยู่มาภายหลังเบนฮาดัดกษัตริย์แห่งซีเรียทรงจัดกองทัพทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์แล้วได้เสด็จขึ้นไปล้อมกรุงสะมาเรีย
24It happened after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.
25มีการกันดารอาหารอย่างหนักในสะมาเรีย และดูเถิด ขณะเมื่อเขาล้อมอยู่จนหัวลาตัวหนึ่งเขาขายกันเป็นเงินแปดสิบเชเขล และมูลนกเขาครึ่งลิตรเป็นเงินห้าเชเขล
25There was a great famine in Samaria. Behold, they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
26ขณะที่กษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลทรงผ่านไปบนกำแพง มีผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งร้องทูลพระองค์ว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ ขอทรงช่วย"
26As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!”
27พระองค์ตรัสว่า "ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์มิได้ทรงช่วยเจ้า เราจะช่วยเจ้าได้จากไหน จากลานนวดข้าวหรือจากบ่อย่ำองุ่นหรือ"
27He said, “If Yahweh doesn’t help you, from where could I help you? From of the threshing floor, or from the winepress?”
28และกษัตริย์ทรงถามนางว่า "เจ้าเป็นอะไรไป" นางทูลตอบว่า "หญิงคนนี้บอกข้าพระองค์ว่า `เอาลูกชายของเจ้ามาให้เรากินเสียวันนี้เถิด และเราจะกินลูกชายของฉันวันพรุ่งนี้'
28The king said to her, “What ails you?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’
29เราจึงต้มลูกชายของข้าพระองค์และกิน และรุ่งขึ้นข้าพระองค์ก็พูดกับนางว่า `เอาลูกชายของเจ้ามา เพื่อเราจะกินเสีย' และนางก็ซ่อนลูกชายของนางเสีย"
29So we boiled my son, and ate him: and I said to her on the next day, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him;’ and she has hidden her son.”
30และต่อมาเมื่อกษัตริย์ทรงได้ยินถ้อยคำของหญิงนั้น พระองค์ก็ฉีกฉลองพระองค์ พระองค์กำลังดำเนินอยู่บนกำแพง ประชาชนก็มองดู ดูเถิด พระองค์ทรงฉลองพระองค์ผ้ากระสอบอยู่แนบเนื้อ
30It happened, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes (now he was passing by on the wall); and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth underneath on his flesh.
31และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "ถ้าศีรษะของเอลีชาบุตรชาฟัทยังอยู่บนเขาในวันนี้ ก็ขอพระเจ้าทรงลงโทษแก่เราและยิ่งหนักกว่า"
31Then he said, “God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stay on him this day.”
32แต่เอลีชานั่งอยู่ในบ้านของท่าน และพวกผู้ใหญ่ก็นั่งอยู่ด้วย กษัตริย์ทรงใช้คนมาจากต่อเบื้องพระพักตร์พระองค์ แต่ก่อนที่ผู้สื่อสารจะมาถึง เอลีชาก็พูดกับพวกผู้ใหญ่ว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายเห็นหรือไม่เล่า ที่บุตรชายของผู้กระทำฆาตกรรมคนนี้ใช้คนมาเอาศีรษะของข้าพเจ้า ดูซิ เมื่อผู้สื่อสารมา จงปิดประตู และยึดประตูให้แน่นกันเขาไว้ เสียงเท้าของนายของเขาตามเขามามิใช่หรือ"
32But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Then the king sent a man from before him; but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, “Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Behold, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold the door shut against him. Isn’t the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”
33ขณะที่ท่านยังพูดกับเขาทั้งหลายอยู่ ดูเถิด ผู้สื่อสารลงมาหาท่าน และบอกว่า "ดูเถิด เหตุร้ายนี้มาจากพระเยโฮวาห์ ข้าพเจ้าจะรอคอยพระเยโฮวาห์อีกทำไม"
33While he was still talking with them, behold, the messenger came down to him. Then he said, “Behold, this evil is from Yahweh. Why should I wait for Yahweh any longer?”
