¹บัดนี้ พวกที่รัก นี่เป็นจดหมายฉบับที่สองที่ข้าพเจ้าได้เขียนถึงท่านทั้งหลาย และในจดหมายทั้งสองฉบับนั้น ข้าพเจ้าได้สะกิดใจอันบริสุทธิ์ของท่านให้ระลึก

¹This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you;

²เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้ใส่ใจถ้อยคำทั้งหลายที่พวกศาสดาพยากรณ์อันบริสุทธิ์ได้กล่าวไว้เมื่อก่อน และคำบัญชาของเราทั้งหลายพวกอัครสาวกขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและพระผู้ช่วยให้รอด

²that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

³จงรู้ข้อนี้ก่อน คือในวันสุดท้ายคนที่ชอบเยาะเย้ยจะเกิดขึ้นและประพฤติตามใจปรารถนาชั่วของตน

³knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,

⁴และจะถามว่า "คำที่ทรงสัญญาไว้ว่าพระองค์จะเสด็จมานั้นอยู่ที่ไหน เพราะว่าตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษหลับล่วงไปแล้ว สิ่งทั้งปวงก็เป็นอยู่เหมือนที่ได้เป็นอยู่ตั้งแต่เดิมทรงสร้างโลก"

⁴and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

⁵เพราะว่าเขาแกล้งลืมข้อนี้เสีย คือโดยคำตรัสของพระเจ้า ฟ้าสวรรค์ได้อุบัติขึ้นตั้งแต่โบราณ และแผ่นดินโลกจึงได้บังเกิดขึ้นแยกออกจากน้ำและท่ามกลางน้ำ

⁵For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God;

⁶โดยเหตุเหล่านั้น พระองค์จึงได้ทรงบันดาลให้น้ำมาท่วมทำลายโลกที่มีอยู่ในเวลานั้น

⁶by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.

⁷แต่ว่าท้องฟ้าอากาศและแผ่นดินโลกที่อยู่เดี๋ยวนี้ พระองค์ทรงเก็บงำไว้โดยคำตรัสนั้นสำหรับให้ไฟเผา คือเก็บไว้จนถึงวันทรงพิพากษาและวันพินาศแห่งบรรดาคนอธรรม

⁷But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

⁸แต่พวกที่รัก อย่าลืมข้อนี้เสีย คือวันเดียวขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเป็นเหมือนกับพันปี และพันปีก็เป็นเหมือนกับวันเดียว

⁸But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

⁹องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงเฉื่อยช้าในเรื่องพระสัญญาของพระองค์ ตามที่บางคนคิดนั้น แต่พระองค์ได้ทรงอดกลั้นพระทัยไว้ เพราะเห็นแก่เราทั้งหลายมาช้านาน ไม่ทรงประสงค์ที่จะให้ผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดพินาศเลย แต่ทรงปรารถนาที่จะให้คนทั้งปวงกลับใจเสียใหม่

⁹The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁰แต่ว่าวันขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้านั้นจะมาถึงเหมือนอย่างขโมยแอบย่องมาในเวลากลางคืน และในวันนั้นท้องฟ้าจะล่วงเสียไปด้วยเสียงที่ดังกึกก้อง และโลกธาตุจะสลายไปด้วยไฟอันร้อนยิ่ง และแผ่นดินโลกกับการงานทั้งปวงที่มีอยู่ในนั้นจะต้องไหม้เสียสิ้นด้วย

¹⁰But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

¹¹เมื่อเห็นแล้วว่าสิ่งทั้งปวงจะต้องสลายไปหมดสิ้นเช่นนี้ ท่านทั้งหลายควรจะเป็นคนเช่นใดในชีวิตที่บริสุทธิ์และที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้า

¹¹Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,

¹²คอยท่าและกระหายที่จะให้วันของพระเจ้ามาถึง เมื่อไฟจะติดท้องฟ้าอากาศให้ละลายไป และโลกธาตุจะละลายไปด้วยไฟอันร้อนยิ่ง

¹²looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

¹³แต่ว่าตามพระสัญญาของพระองค์นั้น เราจึงคอยท้องฟ้าอากาศใหม่และแผ่นดินโลกใหม่ ที่ซึ่งความชอบธรรมจะดำรงอยู่

¹³But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

¹⁴เหตุฉะนั้นพวกที่รัก เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายยังคอยสิ่งเหล่านี้อยู่ ท่านก็จงอุตส่าห์ให้พระองค์ทรงพบท่านทั้งหลายอยู่เป็นสุข ปราศจากมลทินและข้อตำหนิ

¹⁴Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight.

¹⁵และจงถือว่า การที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราทรงอดกลั้นพระทัยไว้นานนั้นเป็นการช่วยให้รอด ดังที่เปาโลน้องที่รักของเราได้เขียนจดหมายถึงท่านทั้งหลายด้วย ตามสติปัญญาซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงโปรดประทานแก่ท่านนั้น

¹⁵Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you;

¹⁶เหมือนในจดหมายของท่านทุกฉบับ ท่านได้กล่าวถึงเหตุการณ์เหล่านั้น และในจดหมายนั้นมีบางข้อที่เข้าใจยาก ซึ่งคนทั้งหลายที่ไม่ได้เรียนรู้และไม่แน่นอนมั่นคงนั้นได้เปลี่ยนแปลงเสีย เหมือนเขาได้เปลี่ยนแปลงข้ออื่นๆในพระคัมภีร์ จึงเป็นเหตุกระทำให้ตัวพินาศ

¹⁶as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

¹⁷เพราะเหตุนั้น พวกที่รัก เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายรู้เรื่องนี้ก่อนแล้ว ท่านก็จงระวังให้ดี เกรงว่าท่านอาจจะหลงไปกระทำผิดตามการผิดของคนชั่ว และท่านทั้งหลายจะสูญเสียความหนักแน่นมั่นคงของท่าน

¹⁷You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁸แต่ขอท่านทั้งหลายจงเจริญขึ้นในพระคุณ และในความรู้เกี่ยวกับพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา สง่าราศีจงมีแด่พระองค์ทั้งในปัจจุบันนี้และตลอดไปเป็นนิตย์ เอเมน

¹⁸But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
