1พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงใช้ให้นาธันไปหาดาวิด นาธันก็ไปเข้าเฝ้าและกราบทูลพระองค์ว่า "ในเมืองหนึ่งมีชายสองคน คนหนึ่งมั่งมี อีกคนหนึ่งยากจน
1Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2คนมั่งมีนั้นมีแพะแกะและวัวเป็นอันมาก
2The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3แต่คนจนนั้นไม่มีอะไรเลย เว้นแต่แกะตัวเมียตัวเดียวที่ซื้อเขามา ซึ่งเขาเลี้ยงไว้และอยู่กับเขา มันได้เติบโตขึ้นพร้อมกับบุตรของเขา กินอาหารร่วมและดื่มน้ำถ้วยเดียวกับเขา นอนในอกของเขา และเป็นเหมือนบุตรสาวของเขา
3but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him like a daughter.
4ฝ่ายคนมั่งมีคนนั้นมีแขกคนหนึ่งมาเยี่ยม เขาเสียดายที่จะเอาแพะแกะหรือวัวของตนมาทำอาหารเลี้ยงคนที่เดินทางมาเยี่ยมนั้น จึงเอาแกะตัวเมียของชายคนจนนั้นเตรียมเป็นอาหารให้แก่ชายที่มาเยี่ยมตน"
4A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man who had come to him.”
5ดาวิดกริ้วชายคนนั้นมาก และรับสั่งแก่นาธันว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด ผู้ชายที่กระทำเช่นนั้นจะต้องตาย
5David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!
6และจะต้องคืนแกะให้สี่เท่า เพราะเขาได้กระทำอย่างนี้ และเพราะว่าเขาไม่มีเมตตาจิต"
6He shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”
7นาธันจึงทูลดาวิดว่า "พระองค์นั่นแหละคือชายคนนั้น พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `เราได้เจิมตั้งเจ้าไว้ให้เป็นกษัตริย์เหนืออิสราเอล และเราช่วยเจ้าให้พ้นจากมือของซาอูล
7Nathan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8และเราได้มอบวงศ์วานเจ้านายของเจ้าให้แก่เจ้า และได้มอบภรรยาเจ้านายของเจ้าไว้ในอกของเจ้า และมอบวงศ์วานอิสราเอลและวงศ์วานยูดาห์ให้แก่เจ้า ถ้าเท่านี้ยังน้อยไป เราจะเพิ่มให้อีกเท่านี้
8I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9ทำไมเจ้าดูหมิ่นพระบัญญัติของพระเยโฮวาห์กระทำชั่วในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์ เจ้าได้ฆ่าอุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์เสียด้วยดาบ เอาภรรยาของเขามาเป็นภรรยาของตน และได้สังหารเขาเสียด้วยดาบของคนอัมโมน
9Why have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10เพราะฉะนั้นดาบนั้นจะไม่คลาดไปจากราชวงศ์ของเจ้า เพราะเจ้าได้ดูหมิ่นเรา เอาภรรยาของอุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์มาเป็นภรรยาของเจ้า'
10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
11พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า `ดูเถิด เราจะให้เหตุร้ายบังเกิดขึ้นกับเจ้าจากครัวเรือนของเจ้าเอง และเราจะเอาภรรยาของเจ้าไปต่อหน้าต่อตาเจ้า ยกไปให้แก่เพื่อนบ้านของเจ้า ผู้นั้นจะนอนร่วมกับภรรยาของเจ้าอย่างเปิดเผย
11“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12เพราะเจ้าทำการนั้นอย่างลับๆ แต่เราจะกระทำการนี้ต่อหน้าอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นและอย่างเปิดเผย'"
12For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13ดาวิดจึงรับสั่งกับนาธันว่า "เรากระทำบาปต่อพระเยโฮวาห์แล้ว" และนาฮันกราบทูลดาวิดว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงให้อภัยบาปของพระองค์แล้ว พระองค์จะไม่ถึงแก่มรณา
13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14อย่างไรก็ตาม เพราะด้วยการกระทำนี้พระองค์ได้ให้พวกศัตรูของพระเยโฮวาห์มีโอกาสเหยียดหยามได้ ราชบุตรที่จะประสูติมานั้นจะต้องสิ้นชีวิต"
14However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”
15แล้วนาธันก็กลับไปยังบ้านของตน แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำแก่บุตร ซึ่งภรรยาของอุรีอาห์บังเกิดกับดาวิด และพระกุมารนั้นก็ประชวรหนัก
15Nathan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it was very sick.
16ดาวิดก็ทรงอ้อนวอนต่อพระเจ้าเพื่อพระกุมารนั้น และดาวิดทรงอดพระกระยาหาร และเข้าไปบรรทมบนพื้นดินคืนยังรุ่ง
16David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the earth.
17บรรดาพวกผู้ใหญ่ในราชสำนักของพระองค์ก็ลุกขึ้นมายืนเข้าเฝ้าอยู่ หมายจะทูลเชิญให้พระองค์ทรงลุกจากพื้นดิน แต่พระองค์หาทรงยอมไม่ หรือหาทรงรับประทานกับเขาทั้งหลายไม่
17The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18อยู่มาพอวันที่เจ็ดพระกุมารนั้นก็สิ้นพระชนม์ ส่วนข้าราชการของดาวิดก็กลัวไม่กล้ากราบทูลดาวิดว่าพระกุมารนั้นสิ้นชีวิตแล้ว เขาพูดกันว่า "ดูเถิด เมื่อพระกุมารนั้นทรงพระชนม์อยู่ เราทูลพระองค์ พระองค์หาทรงฟังเสียงของเราไม่ แล้วเราทั้งหลายอาจจะกราบทูลได้อย่างไรว่า พระกุมารนั้นสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว พระองค์ก็จะกระทำอันตรายต่อพระองค์เอง"
18It happened on the seventh day, that the child died. The servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?”
19แต่เมื่อดาวิดทอดพระเนตรเห็นข้าราชการกระซิบกระซาบกันอยู่ ดาวิดเข้าพระทัยว่าพระกุมารนั้นสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว ดาวิดจึงรับสั่งถามข้าราชการของพระองค์ว่า "เด็กนั้นสิ้นชีวิตแล้วหรือ" เขาทูลตอบว่า "สิ้นชีวิตแล้วพ่ะย่ะค่ะ"
19But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
20แล้วดาวิดทรงลุกขึ้นจากพื้นดิน ชำระพระกาย ชโลมพระองค์ และทรงเปลี่ยนฉลองพระองค์ ทรงดำเนินเข้าไปในพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์และทรงนมัสการ แล้วเสด็จไปสู่พระราชวังของพระองค์ รับสั่งให้นำพระกระยาหารมา เขาก็จัดพระกระยาหารให้พระองค์เสวย
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the house of Yahweh, and worshiped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate.
21ข้าราชการจึงทูลถามพระองค์ว่า "เป็นไฉนพระองค์ทรงกระทำเช่นนี้ พระองค์ทรงอดพระกระยาหารและกันแสงเพื่อพระกุมารนั้นเมื่อทรงพระชนม์อยู่ แต่เมื่อพระกุมารนั้นสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว พระองค์ก็ทรงลุกขึ้นเสวยพระกระยาหาร"
21Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
22พระองค์รับสั่งว่า "เมื่อเด็กนั้นมีชีวิตอยู่ เราอดอาหารและร้องไห้ เพราะเราว่า `ใครจะทราบได้ว่าพระเจ้าจะทรงพระเมตตาเรา โปรดให้เด็กนั้นมีชีวิตอยู่หรือไม่'
22He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23แต่เมื่อเขาสิ้นชีวิตแล้ว เราจะอดอาหารทำไม เราจะทำเด็กให้ฟื้นขึ้นมาอีกได้หรือ มีแต่เราจะตามทางเด็กนั้นไป เขาจะกลับมาหาเราหามิได้"
23But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24ฝ่ายดาวิดทรงเล้าโลมใจบัทเชบามเหสีของพระองค์ และทรงเข้าไปสมสู่กับพระนาง พระนางก็ประสูติบุตรชายคนหนึ่งเรียกชื่อว่าซาโลมอน และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงรักซาโลมอน
24David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;
25และทรงใช้นาธันผู้พยากรณ์ไป ท่านจึงตั้งชื่อราชโอรสนั้นว่า เยดีดิยาห์ เพราะเห็นแก่พระเยโฮวาห์
25and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.
26ฝ่ายโยอาบสู้รบกับเมืองรับบาห์ของคนอัมโมน และยึดราชธานีไว้ได้
26Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27และโยอาบได้ส่งผู้สื่อสารไปเฝ้าดาวิด ทูลว่า "ข้าพระองค์ได้สู้รบกับกรุงรับบาห์ และข้าพระองค์ตีได้เมืองที่มีแม่น้ำมากหลายนั้นแล้ว
27Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.
28บัดนี้ขอพระองค์ทรงรวบรวมพลที่เหลือ เข้าตั้งค่ายตีเมืองนั้นให้ได้ เกลือกว่าถ้าข้าพระองค์ตีได้ ก็จะต้องเรียกชื่อเมืองนั้นตามชื่อของข้าพระองค์"
28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.”
29ดาวิดจึงทรงรวบรวมพลทั้งหลายเข้าด้วยกันยกไปยังเมืองรับบาห์ และต่อสู้จนยึดเมืองนั้นได้
29David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30ทรงริบมงกุฎจากเศียรกษัตริย์ของเมืองนั้น มงกุฎนั้นเป็นทองคำหนักหนึ่งตะลันต์ประดับด้วยเพชรพลอยต่างๆ และเขาก็สวมบนพระเศียรของดาวิด และพระองค์ทรงเก็บรวบรวมทรัพย์สมบัติของเมืองนั้นได้เป็นอันมาก
30He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought out the spoil of the city, exceeding much.
31ทรงควบคุมประชาชนที่อยู่ในเมืองนั้นให้ทำงานด้วยเลื่อย คราดเหล็กและขวานเหล็กและบังคับให้ทำงานที่เตาเผาอิฐ ได้ทรงกระทำเช่นนี้แก่บรรดาหัวเมืองของคนอัมโมนทั่วไป แล้วดาวิดก็เสด็จกลับไปกรุงเยรูซาเล็มพร้อมกับพลทั้งสิ้น
31He brought out the people who were therein, and put them under saws, and under iron picks, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick kiln: and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
