1และอยู่มาพอสิ้นปีแล้วเมื่อบรรดากษัตริย์ยกกองทัพออกไปรบ ดาวิดทรงใช้โยอาบพร้อมกับพวกข้าราชการและอิสราเอลทั้งหมด เขาไปกวาดล้างคนอัมโมนและล้อมเมืองรับบาห์ไว้ แต่ดาวิดประทับที่เยรูซาเล็ม
1It happened, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.
2อยู่มาเวลาเย็นวันหนึ่งเมื่อดาวิดทรงลุกขึ้นจากพระแท่น และดำเนินอยู่บนดาดฟ้าหลังคาพระราชวัง ทอดพระเนตรจากหลังคาเห็นผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งอาบน้ำอยู่ หญิงคนนั้นสวยงามมาก
2It happened at evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.
3ดาวิดทรงใช้คนไปไต่ถามเรื่องผู้หญิงคนนั้น คนหนึ่งมากราบทูลว่า "หญิงคนนี้ชื่อบัทเชบา บุตรสาวของเอลีอัม ภรรยาของอุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์มิใช่หรือพ่ะย่ะค่ะ"
3David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”
4ดาวิดก็ทรงใช้ผู้สื่อสารไปรับนางมา นางก็มาเฝ้าพระองค์ แล้วพระองค์ทรงสมสู่กับนาง พอดีนางได้ชำระตัวให้สิ้นมลทินของนางแล้ว แล้วนางก็กลับไปเรือนของตน
4David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.
5ผู้หญิงนั้นก็ตั้งครรภ์ นางจึงใช้คนไปกราบทูลดาวิดว่า "หม่อมฉันตั้งครรภ์แล้ว"
5The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”
6ดาวิดทรงใช้คนไปบอกโยอาบว่า "จงส่งอุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์มาให้เรา" โยอาบก็ส่งตัวอุรีอาห์ไปให้ดาวิด
6David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.
7เมื่ออุรีอาห์เข้าเฝ้าพระองค์ ดาวิดรับสั่งถามว่าโยอาบเป็นอย่างไรบ้าง พวกพลเป็นอย่างไร การสงครามคืบหน้าไปอย่างไร
7When Uriah had come to him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.
8แล้วดาวิดรับสั่งอุรีอาห์ว่า "จงลงไปบ้านของเจ้า และล้างเท้าของเจ้าเสีย" อุรีอาห์ก็ออกไปจากพระราชวัง และมีคนนำของประทานจากกษัตริย์ตามไปให้
8David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house, and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
9แต่อุรีอาห์ได้นอนเสียที่ประตูพระราชวังพร้อมกับบรรดาข้าราชการของเจ้านายของเขา มิได้ลงไปที่บ้านของตน
9But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.
10เมื่อมีคนกราบทูลดาวิดว่า "อุรีอาห์ไม่ได้ลงไปที่บ้านของเขาพ่ะย่ะค่ะ" ดาวิดรับสั่งแก่อุรีอาห์ว่า "เจ้ามิได้เดินทางมาดอกหรือ ทำไมจึงไม่ลงไปบ้านของเจ้า"
10When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”
11อุรีอาห์ทูลตอบดาวิดว่า "หีบพันธสัญญาและอิสราเอลกับยูดาห์อยู่ในทับอาศัย โยอาบเจ้านายของข้าพระองค์กับบรรดาข้าราชการของพระองค์ตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่พื้นทุ่ง ส่วนข้าพระองค์จะไปบ้าน ไปกิน ไปดื่ม และนอนกับภรรยาของข้าพระองค์เช่นนั้นหรือ พ่ะย่ะค่ะ พระองค์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่และจิตวิญญาณของพระองค์มีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด ข้าพระองค์จะไม่กระทำอย่างนี้เลย"
11Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”
12แล้วดาวิดก็รับสั่งแก่อุรีอาห์ว่า "วันนี้ก็ค้างเสียที่นี่เถิด พรุ่งนี้เราจะให้เจ้าไป" อุรีอาห์ก็ค้างอยู่ในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มในวันนั้นและในวันรุ่งขึ้น
12David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day, and the next day.
13ดาวิดทรงเชิญเขามา เขาก็มารับประทานและดื่มต่อพระพักตร์ และพระองค์ทรงกระทำให้เขามึนเมา ในเย็นวันนั้นเขาก็ออกไปนอนบนที่นอนกับข้าราชการของเจ้านายของเขา แต่มิได้ลงไปบ้าน
13When David had called him, he ate and drink before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.
14ต่อมาครั้นรุ่งเช้าดาวิดทรงอักษรถึงโยอาบและทรงฝากไปในมือของอุรีอาห์
14It happened in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
15ในลายพระหัตถ์นั้นว่า "จงตั้งอุรีอาห์ให้เป็นกองหน้าเข้าสู้รบตรงที่ดุเดือดที่สุดแล้วล่าทัพกลับเสียเพื่อให้เขาถูกโจมตีให้ตาย"
15He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck, and die.”
16อยู่มาเมื่อโยอาบกำลังเฝ้าล้อมเมืองอยู่ ท่านจึงกำหนดให้อุรีอาห์ไปรบตรงที่ที่ท่านทราบว่ามีทหารเข้มแข็งมาก
16It happened, when Joab kept watch on the city, that he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.
17คนในเมืองก็ออกมาสู้รบกับโยอาบ มีคนตายบ้างคือข้าราชการบางคนของดาวิดได้ล้มตาย อุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์ก็ตายด้วย
17The men of the city went out, and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
18โยอาบจึงส่งคนไปกราบทูลข่าวการรบทั้งสิ้นต่อดาวิด
18Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
19ท่านได้สั่งผู้สื่อสารนั้นว่า "เมื่อเจ้ากราบทูลข่าวการรบต่อกษัตริย์เสร็จทุกประการแล้ว
19and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,
20ถ้ากษัตริย์กริ้วและตรัสถามเจ้าว่า `ทำไมเจ้าทั้งหลายจึงยกเข้ารบใกล้เมืองนัก เจ้าไม่ทราบหรือว่าเขาจะยิงออกมาจากกำแพง
20it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?
21ใครฆ่าอาบีเมเลคบุตรเยรุบเบเชท ไม่ใช่ผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งเอาหินโม่ท่อนบนทุ่มเขาจากกำแพงเมืองจนเขาตายเสียที่เมืองเธเบศดอกหรือ ทำไมเจ้าทั้งหลายจึงเข้าไปใกล้กำแพง' แล้วเจ้าจงกราบทูลว่า `อุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ก็ตายด้วย'"
21who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’”
22ผู้สื่อสารก็ไป เขามาทูลต่อดาวิดถึงทุกอย่างที่โยอาบสั่งเขาให้มากราบทูล
22So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.
23ผู้สื่อสารนั้นกราบทูลดาวิดว่า "ข้าศึกได้เปรียบต่อเรามาก และได้ออกมาสู้รบกับฝ่ายเราที่กลางทุ่ง แต่เราได้ขับไล่เขาเข้าไปถึงทางเข้าประตูเมือง
23The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.
24แล้วทหารธนูก็ยิงข้าราชการของพระองค์จากกำแพง ข้าราชการของกษัตริย์บางคนก็สิ้นชีวิต และอุรีอาห์คนฮิตไทต์ข้าราชการของพระองค์ก็สิ้นชีวิตด้วย"
24The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.”
25ดาวิดก็รับสั่งผู้สื่อสารนั้นว่า "เจ้าจงบอกโยอาบดังนี้ว่า `อย่าให้เรื่องนี้ทำให้ท่านลำบากใจ เพราะดาบย่อมสังหารไม่เลือกว่าคนนั้นหรือคนนี้ จงสู้รบหนักเข้าไปและตีเอาเมืองนั้นเสียให้ได้' เจ้าจงหนุนน้ำใจท่านด้วย"
25Then David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”
26เมื่อภรรยาของอุรีอาห์ได้ยินข่าวว่าอุรีอาห์สามีของตนสิ้นชีวิตแล้ว นางก็คร่ำครวญด้วยเรื่องสามีของนาง
26When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband.
27เมื่อสิ้นการไว้ทุกข์แล้วดาวิดก็ส่งคนไปให้พานางมาที่พระราชวัง และนางก็ได้เป็นมเหสีของพระองค์ ประสูติโอรสองค์หนึ่งให้พระองค์ แต่สิ่งซึ่งดาวิดทรงกระทำนั้นไม่เป็นที่พอพระทัยพระเยโฮวาห์
27When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.
