1อยู่มาภายหลังกษัตริย์แห่งคนอัมโมนก็สิ้นพระชนม์ และฮานูนราชโอรสได้เสวยราชสมบัติแทน
1It happened after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
2ดาวิดจึงตรัสว่า "เราจะแสดงความเมตตาต่อฮานูนราชโอรสของนาฮาช ดังที่บิดาของเขาแสดงความเมตตาต่อเรา" ดาวิดจึงส่งพวกข้าราชการของพระองค์ไปเล้าโลมท่านเกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องราชบิดาของท่าน และข้าราชการของดาวิดก็เข้ามาในแผ่นดินของคนอัมโมน
2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3แต่บรรดาเจ้านายของคนอัมโมนทูลฮานูนเจ้านายของตนว่า "พระองค์ดำริว่าดาวิดส่งผู้เล้าโลมมาหาพระองค์ เพราะนับถือพระราชบิดาของพระองค์เช่นนั้นหรือ ดาวิดมิได้ส่งข้าราชการมาเพื่อตรวจเมืองและสอดแนมดู และเพื่อจะคว่ำเมืองนี้เสียดอกหรือ"
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”
4ฮานูนจึงจับข้าราชการของดาวิดมาโกนเคราออกเสียครึ่งหนึ่งและตัดเครื่องแต่งกายของเขาออกเสียที่ตรงกลางตรงตะโพก แล้วปล่อยตัวไป
4So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5เมื่อมีคนไปกราบทูลดาวิดให้ทรงทราบ พระองค์ก็รับสั่งให้คนไปรับข้าราชการเหล่านั้น เพราะว่าเขาทั้งหลายได้รับความอับอายมาก และกษัตริย์ตรัสว่า "จงพักอยู่ที่เมืองเยรีโคจนกว่าเคราของท่านทั้งหลายจะขึ้นแล้วจึงค่อยกลับมา"
5When they told it to David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6เมื่อคนอัมโมนเห็นว่าเขาทั้งหลายเป็นที่เกลียดชังแด่ดาวิด คนอัมโมนจึงส่งคนไปจ้างคนซีเรียชาวเมืองเบธเรโหบ และคนซีเรียชาวเมืองโศบาห์ เป็นทหารราบจำนวนสองหมื่นคน จากกษัตริย์เมืองมาอาคาห์หนึ่งพันคน และชาวเมืองอิชโทบหนึ่งหมื่นสองพันคน
6When the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
7เมื่อดาวิดทรงได้ยินเช่นนั้นจึงรับสั่งโยอาบและพลโยธาคนแกล้วกล้าทั้งสิ้นให้ไป
7When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
8ฝ่ายคนอัมโมนก็ยกออกมาและจัดทัพไว้ที่ทางเข้าประตูเมือง ฝ่ายคนซีเรียชาวเมืองโศบาห์และชาวเมืองเรโหบ กับคนเมืองอิชโทบ และเมืองมาอาคาห์อยู่ที่ชนบทกลางแจ้งต่างหาก
8The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
9เมื่อโยอาบเห็นว่าการศึกนี้ขนาบอยู่ทั้งข้างหน้าและข้างหลัง ท่านจึงคัดเอาบรรดาคนอิสราเอลที่สรรไว้แล้วจัดทัพเข้าสู้คนซีเรีย
9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10ท่านมอบคนที่เหลืออยู่ไว้ในบังคับบัญชาของอาบีชัยน้องชายของท่าน และเขาก็จัดคนเหล่านั้นเข้าต่อสู้กับคนอัมโมน
10The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11ท่านกล่าวว่า "ถ้ากำลังคนซีเรียแข็งเหลือกำลังของเรา เจ้าจงยกไปช่วยเรา แต่ถ้ากำลังคนอัมโมนแข็งเกินกำลังของเจ้า เราจะยกมาช่วยเจ้า
11He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
12จงมีความกล้าหาญเถิด ให้เราเป็นลูกผู้ชายเพื่อชนชาติของเรา และเพื่อหัวเมืองแห่งพระเจ้าของเรา และขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำตามที่พระองค์ทรงเห็นชอบเถิด"
12Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
13ดังนั้น โยอาบกับประชาชนที่อยู่กับท่านก็ยกเข้าใกล้ต่อสู้กับคนซีเรีย ข้าศึกก็แตกหนีไปต่อหน้าเขา
13So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
14เมื่อคนอัมโมนเห็นว่าคนซีเรียหนีไปแล้ว เขาทั้งหลายก็หนีอาบีชัยเข้าไปในเมือง แล้วโยอาบก็กลับจากการสู้รบกับคนอัมโมนมายังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม
14When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15ครั้นคนซีเรียเห็นว่าตนพ่ายแพ้ต่ออิสราเอลแล้ว จึงรวบรวมเข้าด้วยกัน
15When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16ฝ่ายฮาดัดเอเซอร์ทรงใช้คนไปนำคนซีเรียผู้อยู่ฟากแม่น้ำข้างโน้นออกมา เขามายังตำบลเฮลาม มีโชบัคแม่ทัพของฮาดัดเอเซอร์เป็นผู้นำหน้า
16Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
17เมื่อมีผู้กราบทูลดาวิดพระองค์ทรงรวบรวมอิสราเอลทั้งหมดข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนมาถึงตำบลเฮลาน และคนซีเรียก็จัดทัพเข้าต่อสู้ดาวิดและได้รบกับพระองค์
17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
18คนซีเรียก็หนีจากอิสราเอล และดาวิดทรงประหารคนซีเรียซึ่งเป็นทหารรถรบเจ็ดร้อยคนกับทหารม้าสี่หมื่นคนเสีย และประหารโชบัคแม่ทัพของเขาทั้งหลายให้สิ้นชีวิตเสียที่นั่น
18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrians seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.
19และเมื่อบรรดากษัตริย์ซึ่งขึ้นกับฮาดัดเอเซอร์เห็นว่าตนพ่ายแพ้ต่อหน้าอิสราเอลแล้ว เขาก็ได้กระทำสันติภาพกับอิสราเอล และยอมเป็นผู้รับใช้คนอิสราเอล ดังนั้นคนซีเรียจึงกลัวไม่กล้าช่วยคนอัมโมนอีกต่อไป
19When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
