1และอาหิโธเฟลกราบทูลอับซาโลมว่า "ขอโปรดอนุญาตให้ข้าพระองค์เลือกทหารหนึ่งหมื่นสองพันคน ข้าพระองค์จะยกออกไปติดตามดาวิดคืนวันนี้
1Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me now choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight.
2ข้าพระองค์จะไปทันท่านเมื่อท่านยังเหนื่อยอ่อนอยู่และอ่อนกำลัง กระทำให้ท่านกลัวตัวสั่น พลทั้งปวงที่อยู่กับท่านก็จะหนีไป ข้าพระองค์จะฆ่าฟันแต่กษัตริย์
2I will come on him while he is weary and exhausted, and will make him afraid. All the people who are with him shall flee. I will strike the king only;
3แล้วจะนำประชาชนทั้งสิ้นกลับมาเข้าฝ่ายพระองค์ เมื่อได้คนที่พระองค์มุ่งหาคนเดียวก็เหมือนได้ประชาชนกลับมาทั้งหมด แล้วประชาชนทั้งปวงก็จะอยู่เป็นผาสุก"
3and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned. All the people shall be in peace.”
4คำทูลนี้เป็นที่พอพระทัยอับซาโลม และบรรดาผู้ใหญ่แห่งอิสราเอลก็พอใจด้วย
4The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5อับซาโลมตรัสว่า "จงเรียกหุชัยคนอารคีเข้ามาด้วย เพื่อเราจะฟังเขาจะว่าอย่างไรเช่นกัน"
5Then Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he says.”
6เมื่อหุชัยเข้ามาเฝ้าอับซาโลมแล้ว อับซาโลมจึงตรัสถามเขาว่า "อาหิโธเฟลว่าอย่างนี้แล้ว เราควรจะทำตามคำแนะนำของเขาหรือไม่ ถ้าไม่ ท่านจงพูดมา"
6When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, “Ahithophel has spoken like this. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up.”
7หุชัยจึงกราบทูลอับซาโลมว่า "คำปรึกษาซึ่งอาหิโธเฟลให้ในครั้งนี้ไม่ดี"
7Hushai said to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good.”
8หุชัยกราบทูลต่อไปว่า "พระองค์ทรงทราบแล้วว่า เสด็จพ่อและคนที่อยู่ด้วยเป็นทหารแข็งกล้า และเขาทั้งหลายกำลังโกรธเหมือนหมีที่ลูกถูกลักเอาไปในป่า นอกจากนั้นเสด็จพ่อของพระองค์ทรงชำนาญศึก ท่านคงไม่พักอยู่กับพวกพล
8Hushai said moreover, “You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are fierce in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. Your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9ดูเถิด ถึงขณะนี้ท่านก็ซ่อนอยู่ในบ่อแห่งหนึ่ง หรือในที่หนึ่งที่ใด แล้วต่อมาเมื่อมีคนล้มตายในการสู้รบครั้งแรก ใครที่ได้ยินเรื่องก็จะกล่าวว่า `ทหารที่ติดตามอับซาโลมถูกฆ่าฟัน'
9Behold, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place. It will happen, when some of them have fallen at the first, that whoever hears it will say, ‘There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom!’
10แม้คนที่กล้าหาญ ที่จิตใจเหมือนอย่างสิงโตก็จะละลายไปอย่างเต็มที่ เพราะอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นทราบว่า เสด็จพ่อของพระองค์เป็นวีรบุรุษ และคนที่อยู่ก็เป็นทหารที่แข็งกล้า
10Even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men.
11แต่คำปรึกษาของข้าพระองค์มีว่า ขอพระองค์รวบรวมอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นตั้งแต่ดานถึงเบเออร์เชบา ให้มากมายดั่งเม็ดทรายที่ทะเล แล้วพระองค์ก็เสด็จคุมทัพไปเอง
11But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you go to battle in your own person.
12เราทั้งหลายจะเข้ารบกับท่าน ณ ที่หนึ่งที่ใดที่พบกัน และเราจะเข้าโจมตีเหมือนน้ำค้างตกใส่พื้นดิน ตัวท่านและบรรดาคนที่อยู่กับท่านก็จะไม่มีเหลือสักคนหนึ่ง
12So shall we come on him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light on him as the dew falls on the ground; and of him and of all the men who are with him we will not leave so much as one.
13ยิ่งกว่านั้น ถ้าท่านจะถอยร่นเข้าไปในเมือง คนอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นก็จะเอาเชือกมาลากเมืองนั้นลงไปที่ลุ่มแม่น้ำ จนกระทั่งก้อนกรวดสักก้อนหนึ่งก็ไม่มีให้เห็นที่นั่น"
13Moreover, if he be gone into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there isn’t one small stone found there.”
14อับซาโลมและคนอิสราเอลทั้งปวงว่า "คำปรึกษาของหุชัยคนอารคีดีกว่าคำปรึกษาของอาหิโธเฟล" เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถาปนาที่จะให้คำปรึกษาอันดีของอาหิโธเฟลพ่ายแพ้ เพื่อพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงนำเหตุร้ายมายังอับซาโลม
14Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For Yahweh had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Yahweh might bring evil on Absalom.
15แล้วหุชัยจึงบอกศาโดกและอาบียาธาร์ปุโรหิตว่า "อาหิโธเฟลได้ให้คำปรึกษาอย่างนั้นอย่างนี้แก่อับซาโลมและพวกผู้ใหญ่ของอิสราเอล และข้าพเจ้าได้ให้คำปรึกษาอย่างนั้นอย่างนี้
15Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel that way; and I have counseled this way.
16บัดนี้จงรีบส่งคนไปกราบทูลดาวิดว่า `คืนวันนี้อย่าพักอยู่ที่ที่ราบในถิ่นทุรกันดาร อย่างไรก็จงให้เสด็จข้ามไปเสีย เกรงว่ากษัตริย์และประชาชนทั้งสิ้นที่อยู่กับพระองค์จะถูกกลืนไปหมด'"
16Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, ‘Don’t lodge this night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.’”
17ฝ่ายโยนาธานและอาหิมาอัสกำลังคอยอยู่ที่เอนโรเกลแล้ว มีสาวใช้คนหนึ่งเคยไปบอกเรื่องแก่เขา แล้วเขาก็ไปกราบทูลกษัตริย์ดาวิด เพราะเขาไม่กล้าเข้ากรุงให้ใครเห็น
17Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel; and a female servant used to go and tell them; and they went and told king David. For they might not be seen to come into the city.
18แต่มีเด็กหนุ่มคนหนึ่งเห็นเขาทั้งสอง จึงไปทูลอับซาโลม เขาทั้งสองก็รีบไปโดยเร็วจนถึงบ้านชายคนหนึ่งที่บาฮูริม เขามีบ่อน้ำอยู่ที่ลานบ้าน เขาทั้งสองจึงลงไปอยู่ในบ่อนั้น
18But a boy saw them, and told Absalom. Then they both went away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down there.
19หญิงแม่บ้านก็เอาผ้ามาปูปิดปากบ่อ แล้วก็เกลี่ยปลายข้าวตกอยู่บนนั้น ไม่มีใครทราบเรื่องเลย
19The woman took and spread the covering over the well’s mouth, and spread out bruised grain on it; and nothing was known.
20เมื่อข้าราชการของอับซาโลมมาถึงที่บ้านหญิงคนนี้ เขาก็ถามว่า "อาหิมาอัสกับโยนาธานอยู่ที่ไหน" หญิงนั้นก็ตอบเขาว่า "เขาข้ามลำธารน้ำไปแล้ว" เมื่อเขาเที่ยวหาไม่พบแล้วก็กลับไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม
20Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have gone over the brook of water.” When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21อยู่มาเมื่อคนเหล่านั้นไปแล้ว ชายทั้งสองก็ขึ้นมาจากบ่อ ไปกราบทูลกษัตริย์ดาวิด เขาทูลดาวิดว่า "ขอทรงลุกขึ้น และรีบข้ามแม่น้ำไป เพราะอาหิโธเฟลได้ให้คำปรึกษาต่อสู้อย่างนั้นอย่างนี้"
21It happened, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David; and they said to David, “Arise and pass quickly over the water; for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.”
22ดาวิดก็ทรงลุกขึ้นพร้อมกับพวกพลทั้งสิ้นที่อยู่กับพระองค์และข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน พอรุ่งเช้าก็ไม่มีเหลือสักคนหนึ่งที่ยังไม่ได้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน
22Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who had not gone over the Jordan.
23เมื่ออาหิโธเฟลเห็นว่าเขาไม่กระทำตามคำปรึกษาของท่าน ก็ผูกอานลาขึ้นขี่กลับไปเรือนของตนที่อยู่ในเมืองของตน เมื่อสั่งครอบครัวเสียเสร็จแล้วก็ผูกคอตาย เขาจึงเอาศพฝังไว้ที่อุโมงค์บิดาของท่าน
23When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and went home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.
24ฝ่ายดาวิดก็เสด็จมายังเมืองมาหะนาอิม และอับซาโลมก็ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนพร้อมกับคนอิสราเอลทั้งปวง
24Then David came to Mahanaim. Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25อับซาโลมทรงตั้งอามาสาเป็นแม่ทัพแทนโยอาบ อามาสาเป็นบุตรของชายคนหนึ่งชื่ออิธราคนอิสราเอล ได้แต่งงานกับอาบีกายิลบุตรสาวของนาหาช น้องสาวของนางเศรุยาห์มารดาของโยอาบ
25Absalom set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
26ฝ่ายคนอิสราเอลและอับซาโลมตั้งค่ายอยู่ในแผ่นดินกิเลอาด
26Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.
27อยู่มาเมื่อดาวิดเสด็จมาถึงมาหะนาอิม โชบีบุตรชายนาหาชชาวเมืองรับบาห์แห่งคนอัมโมน และมาคีร์บุตรชายอัมมีเอลชาวโลเดบาร์ และบารซิลลัยชาวกิเลอาดจากเมืองโรเกลิม
27It happened, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28ได้ขนที่นอน อ่างน้ำและเครื่องภาชนะดิน ข้าวสาลี ข้าวบารลี และแป้ง ข้าวคั่ว ถั่ว ถั่วยาง และถั่วแดง
28brought beds, basins, earthen vessels, wheat, barley, meal, parched grain, beans, lentils, roasted grain,
29น้ำผึ้ง เนย แกะ และเนยแข็งที่ได้มาจากฝูงสัตว์ ถวายแด่ดาวิด และให้พวกพลที่อยู่กับพระองค์รับประทาน เพราะเขาทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า "พวกพลหิวและอ่อนเพลียและกระหายอยู่ที่ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร"
29honey, butter, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David, and for the people who were with him, to eat: for they said, “The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.”
