1ในสมัยของดาวิดมีการกันดารอาหารอยู่สามปี ปีแล้วปีเล่า และดาวิดทรงอธิษฐานอ้อนวอนต่อพระเยโฮวาห์ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "เพราะเหตุซาอูลและวงศ์วานกระหายโลหิตของเขา เพราะเขาฆ่าคนกิเบโอน"
1There was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Yahweh. Yahweh said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites.”
2กษัตริย์จึงทรงเรียกคนกิเบโอนมาตรัสแก่เขา (ฝ่ายคนกิเบโอนนั้นไม่ใช่ประชาชนอิสราเอล แต่เป็นคนอาโมไรต์ที่ยังเหลืออยู่ ประชาชนอิสราเอลได้ปฏิญาณไว้แก่เขาทั้งหลายแล้ว แต่ซาอูลก็ทรงหาช่องที่จะสังหารเขาทั้งหลายเสีย เพราะความร้อนใจที่เห็นแก่คนอิสราเอลและคนยูดาห์)
2The king called the Gibeonites, and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them: and Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);
3ดาวิดตรัสถามคนกิเบโอนว่า "เราจะกระทำอะไรให้แก่พวกท่านได้ เราจะทำอย่างไรจึงจะลบมลทินบาปเสียได้ เพื่อพวกท่านจะได้อวยพรแก่มรดกของพระเยโฮวาห์ได้"
3and David said to the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of Yahweh?”
4คนกิเบโอนทูลตอบพระองค์ว่า "พวกข้าพระองค์จะไม่รับเงินหรือทองจากซาอูลและวงศ์วานของท่านนั้น ทั้งพวกข้าพระองค์ไม่จำเป็นให้พระองค์ประหารชีวิตอิสราเอลคนหนึ่งคนใด" พระองค์จึงตรัสว่า "แล้วพวกท่านจะให้เรากระทำอะไรแก่ท่านเล่า"
4The Gibeonites said to him, “It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” He said, “Whatever you say, that will I do for you.”
5เขากราบทูลกษัตริย์ว่า "ชายผู้ที่เผาผลาญพวกข้าพระองค์ และวางแผนการทำลายพวกข้าพระองค์เพื่อมิให้พวกข้าพระองค์มีที่อยู่ในเขตแดนอิสราเอล
5They said to the king, “The man who consumed us, and who devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,
6ขอทรงมอบบุตรชายเจ็ดคนของท่านให้แก่พวกข้าพระองค์ เพื่อพวกข้าพระองค์จะได้แขวนเขาเสียต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ที่กิเบอาห์แห่งซาอูลผู้เลือกสรรของพระเยโฮวาห์" และกษัตริย์ตรัสว่า "เราจะจัดเขามาให้"
6let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.” The king said, “I will give them.”
7แต่กษัตริย์ทรงไว้ชีวิตเมฟีโบเชท บุตรชายของโยนาธาน ราชโอรสของซาอูล ด้วยเหตุคำปฏิญาณระหว่างทั้งสองที่กระทำในพระนามพระเยโฮวาห์ คือระหว่างดาวิดกับโยนาธานราชโอรสของซาอูล
7But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8แต่กษัตริย์นำเอาบุตรชายสองคนของนางริสปาห์บุตรสาวของอัยยาห์ซึ่งบังเกิดกับซาอูล ชื่ออารโมนีกับเมฟีโบเชท กับบุตรชายห้าคนของมีคาลราชธิดาของซาอูล ซึ่งพระนางมีกับอาดรีเอลบุตรชายบารซิลลัยชาวเมโหลาห์
8But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
9พระองค์ทรงมอบคนเหล่านี้ไว้ในมือของคนกิเบโอน เขาทั้งหลายจึงแขวนคอทั้งเจ็ดไว้บนภูเขาต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ และทั้งเจ็ดคนก็พินาศไปด้วยกัน เขาถูกฆ่าตายในสมัยฤดูเกี่ยวข้าว ในวันต้น คือวันแรกของการเกี่ยวข้าวบารลี
9He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Yahweh, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
10แล้วนางริสปาห์บุตรสาวของอัยยาห์ก็เอาผ้ากระสอบปูไว้บนก้อนหินสำหรับตนเอง ตั้งแต่ต้นฤดูเกี่ยวจนฝนจากท้องฟ้าตกบนเขาทั้งหลาย กลางวันนางก็ไม่ยอมให้นกมาเกาะ หรือกลางคืนก็ไม่ให้สัตว์ป่าทุ่งมา
10Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured on them from the sky. She allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night.
11มีคนกราบทูลดาวิดว่านางริสปาห์บุตรสาวของอัยยาห์นางสนมของซาอูลกระทำอย่างไร
11It was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
12ดาวิดก็เสด็จไปนำอัฐิของซาอูลและอัฐิของโยนาธานราชโอรสมาจากคนเมืองยาเบชกิเลอาด ผู้ที่ลักลอบเอาไปจากถนนเมืองเบธชาน ที่คนฟีลิสเตียได้แขวนพระองค์ทั้งสองไว้ ในเมื่อคนฟีลิสเตียประหารซาอูลบนเขากิลโบอา
12David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa;
13พระองค์ทรงนำอัฐิของซาอูลและอัฐิของโยนาธานราชโอรสขึ้นมาจากที่นั่น และรวบรวมกระดูกของผู้ที่ถูกแขวนไว้ให้ตายนั้น
13and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
14และเขาก็ฝังอัฐิของซาอูลและของโยนาธานราชโอรสไว้ในแผ่นดินของเบนยามินในเมืองเศลาในอุโมงค์ของคีชบิดาของพระองค์ เขาทั้งหลายก็กระทำตามทุกอย่างที่กษัตริย์ทรงสั่งไว้ ครั้นต่อมาพระเจ้าก็ทรงสดับฟังคำอธิษฐานเพื่อแผ่นดินนั้น
14They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. After that God was entreated for the land.
15คนฟีลิสเตียได้ทำสงครามกับคนอิสราเอลอีก ดาวิดก็ลงไปพร้อมกับบรรดาข้าราชการของพระองค์ และได้สู้รบกับคนฟีลิสเตีย และดาวิดก็ทรงอ่อนเพลีย
15The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. David grew faint;
16อิชบีเบโนบ บุตรชายคนหนึ่งของคนยักษ์ ถือหอกทองสัมฤทธิ์หนักสามร้อยเชเขล มีดาบใหม่คาดเอว คิดจะสังหารดาวิดเสีย
16and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being armed with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
17แต่อาบีชัยบุตรชายนางเศรุยาห์เข้ามาช่วยพระองค์ไว้ และสู้รบกับคนฟีลิสเตียคนนั้นฆ่าเขาเสีย แล้วบรรดาประชาชนของดาวิดก็ปฏิญาณต่อพระองค์ว่า "ขอพระองค์อย่าเสด็จไปทำศึกพร้อมกับพวกข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายอีกต่อไปเลย เกรงว่าพระองค์จะดับประทีปของอิสราเอลเสีย"
17But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “You shall go no more out with us to battle, that you don’t quench the lamp of Israel.”
18อยู่มาภายหลังนี้ มีการรบกับคนฟีลิสเตียอีกที่เมืองโกบ คราวนั้นสิบเบคัยคนหุชาห์ได้ฆ่าสัฟบุตรชายคนหนึ่งของคนยักษ์
18It came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
19และมีการรบกับคนฟีลิสเตียที่เมืองโกบอีก เอลฮานันบุตรชายยาอาเรโอเรกิมชาวเบธเลเฮมได้ฆ่าบุตรชายโกลิอัทชาวกัท ผู้มีหอกที่มีด้ามโตเท่าไม้กระพั่นทอผ้า
19There was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite’s brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
20มีการรบกันอีกที่เมืองกัท อันเป็นเมืองที่มีชายคนหนึ่งรูปร่างใหญ่โต มีนิ้วมือข้างละหกนิ้ว และนิ้วเท้าข้างละหกนิ้ว รวมกันยี่สิบสี่นิ้ว เขาก็บังเกิดแก่คนยักษ์นั้นด้วย
20There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21เมื่อเขาท้าทายอิสราเอล โยนาธานบุตรชายของชิเมอีเชษฐาของดาวิด ก็สังหารเขาเสีย
21When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, killed him.
22คนทั้งสี่นี้บังเกิดแก่คนยักษ์ในเมืองกัท เขาทั้งหลายล้มตายด้วยพระหัตถ์ของดาวิด และด้วยมือของข้าราชการของพระองค์
22These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
