1เผอิญที่นั่นมีคนอันธพาลอยู่คนหนึ่งชื่อเชบาบุตรชายบิครี คนเบนยามิน เขาได้เป่าแตรขึ้นกล่าวว่า "เราไม่มีส่วนในดาวิด เราไม่มีมรดกในบุตรของเจสซี โอ อิสราเอลเอ๋ย ให้ต่างคนต่างกลับไปเต็นท์ของตนเถิด"
1There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!”
2ดังนั้นพวกคนอิสราเอลทั้งหมดจึงถอนตัวจากดาวิด และไปตามเชบาบุตรชายบิครี แต่พวกคนยูดาห์ได้ติดตามกษัตริย์ของเขาอย่างมั่นคงจากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไปถึงกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม
2So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah joined with their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3ดาวิดเสด็จกลับพระราชวังที่กรุงเยรูซาเล็ม กษัตริย์ก็รับสั่งให้นำนางสนมทั้งสิบคนที่พระองค์ทรงละไว้ให้เฝ้าพระราชวังนั้นไปรวมกักอยู่ในบ้านหลังหนึ่ง ทรงชุบเลี้ยงไว้แต่มิได้ทรงสมสู่อยู่ด้วย นางเหล่านั้นก็ต้องถูกกักให้มีชีวิตอยู่อย่างแม่ม่ายจนวันตาย
3David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in custody, and provided them with sustenance, but didn’t go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4กษัตริย์ตรัสสั่งอามาสาว่า "จงระดมพลยูดาห์ให้มาพร้อมกันที่นี่ภายในสามวัน ตัวท่านจงมาด้วย"
4Then the king said to Amasa, “Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be here present.”
5อามาสาก็ออกไประดมคนยูดาห์ แต่เขาก็ทำงานล่าช้าเกินกำหนดที่พระองค์รับสั่งไว้
5So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he stayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
6ดาวิดตรัสกับอาบีชัยว่า "บัดนี้เชบาบุตรบิครีจะทำอันตรายแก่เรายิ่งกว่าอับซาโลม จงนำข้าราชการทหารของเจ้านายของท่านไปติดตาม เกรงว่าเขาจะหาเมืองที่มีป้อมได้และหนีพ้นเรา"
6David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.”
7มีคนของโยอาบตามเขาไป และคนเคเรธี กับคนเปเลท กับทหารที่แข็งกล้าทั้งหมด และเขาทั้งหลายยกออกไปจากกรุงเยรูซาเล็มเพื่อไล่ตามเชบาบุตรชายบิครี
7There went out after him Joab’s men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
8เมื่อเขาทั้งหลายมาถึงศิลาใหญ่ที่อยู่ในเมืองกิเบโอน อามาสาก็มาพบกับเขาทั้งหลาย ฝ่ายโยอาบสวมเครื่องแต่งกายทหารมีเข็มขัดติดดาบที่อยู่ในฝักคาดอยู่ที่บั้นเอว เมื่อท่านเดินไปดาบก็ตกลง
8When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was clothed in his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.
9โยอาบจึงถามอามาสาว่า "พี่ชายเอ๋ย สบาดีหรือ" และโยอาบก็เอามือขวาจับเคราอามาสาจะจุบเขา
9Joab said to Amasa, “Is it well with you, my brother?” Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10แต่อามาสาไม่ได้สังเกตเห็นดาบซึ่งอยู่ในมือของโยอาบ โยอาบจึงเอาดาบแทงท้องอามาสา ไส้ทะลักถึงดิน ไม่ต้องแทงครั้งที่สอง เขาก็ตายเสียแล้ว แล้วโยอาบกับอาบีชัยน้องชายก็ไล่ตามเชบาบุตรชายบิครีไป
10But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand. So he struck him with it in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and didn’t strike him again; and he died. Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
11ทหารหนุ่มคนหนึ่งของโยอาบมายืนอยู่ใกล้อามาสาพูดว่า "ผู้ใดเห็นชอบฝ่ายโยอาบและผู้ใดอยู่ฝ่ายดาวิดให้ผู้นั้นติดตามโยอาบไป"
11There stood by him one of Joab’s young men, and said, “He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab!”
12อามาสาก็นอนเกลือกโลหิตของตัวอยู่ที่ในทางหลวง เมื่อชายคนนั้นเห็นประชาชนทั้งสิ้นมาหยุดอยู่ เขาก็นำศพอามาสาจากทางหลวงไปทิ้งในทุ่งนาและเอาเสื้อผ้าปิดไว้ เพราะเขาเห็นว่าเมื่อใครมาก็เข้าไปหยุดอยู่
12Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. When the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.
13เมื่อเอาศพอามาสาออกจากทางหลวงแล้ว ประชาชนทั้งปวงก็ตามโยอาบเพื่อติดตามเชบาบุตรชายบิครี
13When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
14เชบาก็ผ่านคนอิสราเอลทุกตระกูลไปจนถึงตำบลอาเบล และเมืองเบธมาอาคาห์ และบรรดาคนบีไรต์ คนเหล่านั้นก็มารวมกันและติดตามเขาไปด้วย
14He went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth Maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
15พวกเขาก็มาถึงและล้อมเขาไว้ในตำบลอาเบลแขวงเมืองเบธมาอาคาห์ เขาทำเชิงเทินขึ้นที่ริมกำแพงเมือง ประชาชนทั้งหลายที่อยู่กับโยอาบก็ทะลวงกำแพงเพื่อจะให้พัง
15They came and besieged him in Abel of Beth Maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people who were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
16มีหญิงฉลาดคนหนึ่งร้องออกมาจากในเมืองว่า "ขอฟังหน่อย ขอฟังหน่อย ขอบอกโยอาบให้มาที่นี่ ฉันอยากจะพูดด้วย"
16Then a wise woman cried out of the city, “Hear, hear! Please say to Joab, ‘Come near here, that I may speak with you.’”
17โยอาบก็เข้ามาใกล้หญิงนั้น นางนั้นก็พูดว่า "ท่านคือโยอาบหรือ" เขาตอบว่า "ใช่แล้ว" นางจึงเรียนท่านว่า "ขอท่านฟังถ้อยคำของสาวใช้ของท่านสักหน่อย" ท่านก็ตอบว่า "ฉันกำลังฟังอยู่แล้ว"
17He came near to her; and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” He answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Hear the words of your handmaid.” He answered, “I do hear.”
18นางก็พูดว่า "สมัยโบราณเขาพูดกันว่า `ให้เขาขอคำปรึกษาที่อาเบลเถิด' แล้วเขาก็ตกลงกันได้
18Then she spoke, saying, “They were used to say in old times, ‘They shall surely ask counsel at Abel;’ and so they settled it.
19ฉันเป็นคนหนึ่งที่รักสงบและสัตย์ซื่อในอิสราเอล ท่านหาช่องที่จะทำลายเมือง อันเป็นเมืองแม่ในอิสราเอล ทำไมท่านจึงจะกลืนมรดกของพระเยโฮวาห์เสีย"
19I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the inheritance of Yahweh?”
20โยอาบจึงตอบว่า "ซึ่งฉันจะกลืนหรือทำลายนั้น ขอให้ห่างไกลจากฉัน ขอให้ห่างไกลทีเดียว
20Joab answered, “Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.
21เรื่องนี้ไม่เป็นความจริง แต่มีชายคนหนึ่งจากแดนเทือกเขาเอฟราอิมชื่อเชบาบุตรบิครี ได้ยกมือของเขาขึ้นต่อสู้กษัตริย์ คือต่อสู้ดาวิด จงมอบเขามาแต่คนเดียว ฉันจะถอยทัพกลับจากเมืองนี้" หญิงนั้นจึงตอบโยอาบว่า "ดูเถิด เราจะโยนศีรษะของเขาข้ามกำแพงมาให้ท่าน"
21The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city.” The woman said to Joab, “Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall.”
22แล้วหญิงนั้นก็ไปหาประชาชนทั้งปวงด้วยปัญญาของนาง เขาทั้งหลายได้ตัดศีรษะของเชบาบุตรชายบิครีโยนออกมาให้โยอาบ โยอาบก็เป่าแตร พวกเขาจึงถอนตัวจากนครนั้นกลับไปยังเต็นท์ของตนทุกคน โยอาบก็กลับไปเฝ้ากษัตริย์ที่กรุงเยรูซาเล็ม
22Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.
23โยอาบเป็นผู้บังคับบัญชากองทัพทั้งหมดในอิสราเอล และเบไนยาห์บุตรชายเยโฮยาดาเป็นผู้บังคับบัญชากองคนเคเรธีและคนเปเลท
23Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;
24และอาโดรัมดูแลคนงานโยธา เยโฮชาฟัทบุตรชายอาหิลูดเป็นเจ้ากรมสารบรรณ
24and Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;
25เชวาเป็นราชเลขา ศาโดกกับอาบียาธาร์เป็นปุโรหิต
25and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
26อิราคนยาอีร์เป็นประมุขของดาวิดด้วย
26and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.
