¹ครั้นเปาโลกับสิลาสข้ามเมืองอัมฟีบุรีและเมืองอปอลโลเนียแล้ว จึงมายังเมืองเธสะโลนิกา ที่นั่นมีธรรมศาลาของพวกยิว

¹Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.

²เปาโลจึงเข้าไปร่วมกับพวกเขาตามอย่างเคย และท่านได้อ้างข้อความในพระคัมภีร์โต้ตอบกับเขาทั้งสามวันสะบาโต

²Paul, as was his custom, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

³explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”

⁴Some of them were persuaded, and joined Paul and Silas, of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and not a few of the chief women.

⁵แต่พวกยิวที่ไม่เชื่อก็อิจฉา ไปคบคิดกับคนพาลตามตลาดรวบรวมกันมาเป็นอันมาก ก่อการจลาจลในบ้านเมือง เข้าบุกบ้านของยาโสน ตั้งใจจะพาท่านทั้งสองออกมาให้คนทั้งปวง

⁵But the unpersuaded Jews took along TR reads “And the Jews who were unpersuaded, becoming envious and taking along” instead of “But the unpersuaded Jews took along” some wicked men from the marketplace, and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.

⁶ครั้นไม่พบจึงฉุดลากยาโสนกับพวกพี่น้องบางคนไปหาเจ้าหน้าที่ผู้ครองเมืองร้องว่า "คนเหล่านั้นที่เป็นพวกคว่ำแผ่นดินได้มาที่นี่ด้วย

⁶When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers The word for “brothers” here and where the context allows may be also correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” before the rulers of the city, crying, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,

⁷ยาโสนรับรองเขาไว้ และบรรดาคนเหล่านี้ได้กระทำผิดคำสั่งของซีซาร์ โดยเขาสอนว่ามีกษัตริย์อีกองค์หนึ่งคือพระเยซู"

⁷whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus!”

⁸เมื่อประชาชนและเจ้าหน้าที่ผู้ครองเมืองได้ยินดังนั้นก็ร้อนใจ

⁸The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.

⁹จึงเรียกประกันตัวยาโสนกับคนอื่นๆแล้วก็ปล่อยไป

⁹When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

¹⁰พอค่ำลงพวกพี่น้องจึงส่งเปาโลกับสิลาสไปยังเมืองเบโรอา ครั้นถึงแล้วท่านจึงเข้าไปในธรรมศาลาของพวกยิว

¹⁰The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.

¹¹ชาวเมืองนั้นสุภาพกว่าชาวเมืองเธสะโลนิกา ด้วยเขาได้รับพระวจนะด้วยความเต็มใจ และค้นดูพระคัมภีร์ทุกวัน หวังจะรู้ว่า ข้อความเหล่านั้นจะจริงดังกล่าวหรือไม่

¹¹Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

¹²เหตุฉะนั้น มีหลายคนในพวกเขาได้เชื่อถือ กับสตรีผู้มีศักดิ์ชาติกรีก ทั้งผู้ชายไม่น้อย

¹²Many of them therefore believed; also of the prominent Greek women, and not a few men.

¹³แต่เมื่อพวกยิวที่อยู่ในเมืองเธสะโลนิกาทราบว่า เปาโลได้กล่าวสั่งสอนพระวจนะของพระเจ้าในเมืองเบโรอาเหมือนกัน เขาก็มายุยงประชาชนที่นั่นด้วย

¹³But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Beroea also, they came there likewise, agitating the multitudes.

¹⁴ขณะนั้นพวกพี่น้องจึงส่งเปาโลออกไปตามทางที่จะไปทะเล แต่สิลาสกับทิโมธียังอยู่ที่นั่น

¹⁴Then the brothers immediately sent out Paul to go as far as to the sea, and Silas and Timothy still stayed there.

¹⁵คนที่ไปส่งเปาโลนั้นได้ไปส่งท่านถึงกรุงเอเธนส์ และเมื่อได้รับคำสั่งของท่านให้บอกสิลาสกับทิโมธีให้รีบไปหาท่านแล้วเขาก็จากไป

¹⁵But those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him very quickly, they departed.

¹⁶เมื่อเปาโลกำลังคอยสิลาสกับทิโมธีอยู่ในกรุงเอเธนส์นั้น ท่านมีความเดือดร้อนวุ่นวายใจเพราะได้เห็นรูปเคารพเต็มไปทั้งเมือง

¹⁶Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw the city full of idols.

¹⁷เหตุฉะนั้น ท่านจึงโต้ตอบในธรรมศาลากับพวกยิว และกับคนที่เกรงกลัวพระเจ้า และกับคนทั้งหลายซึ่งมาพบท่านที่ตลาดทุกวัน

¹⁷So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met him.

¹⁸นักปรัชญาบางคนในพวกเอปีกูเรียวและในพวกสโตอิกได้มาพบท่าน บางคนกล่าวว่า "คนพูดเพ้อเจ้ออย่างนี้จะใคร่มาพูดอะไรให้เราฟังอีกเล่า" คนอื่นกล่าวว่า "ดูเหมือนเขาเป็นคนนำพระต่างประเทศเข้ามาเผยแพร่" เพราะเปาโลได้ประกาศเรื่องพระเยซูและเรื่องการเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย

¹⁸Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also TR omits “also” were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

¹⁹เขาจึงจับเปาโลพาไปยังสภาอาเรโอปากัสแล้วถามว่า "เราขอรู้ได้หรือไม่ว่าคำสอนอย่างใหม่ที่ท่านกล่าวนั้นเป็นอย่างไร

¹⁹They took hold of him, and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by you?

²⁰เพราะว่าท่านนำเรื่องแปลกประหลาดมาถึงหูของเรา เหตุฉะนั้นเราอยากทราบว่าเรื่องเหล่านี้มีความหมายว่าอย่างไร"

²⁰For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean.”

²¹(เพราะชาวเอเธนส์กับชาวต่างประเทศซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น ไม่ได้ใช้เวลาว่างในการอื่นนอกจากจะกล่าวหรือฟังสิ่งใหม่ๆ)

²¹Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

²²ฝ่ายเปาโลจึงยืนขึ้นกลางเขาอาเรโอแล้วกล่าวว่า "ท่านชาวกรุงเอเธนส์ ข้าพเจ้าเห็นได้ว่าท่านทั้งหลายเป็นนักศาสนาในทุกเรื่อง

²²Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.

²³เพราะว่าเมื่อข้าพเจ้าเดินทางมาสังเกตดูสิ่งที่ท่านนมัสการนั้น ข้าพเจ้าได้พบแท่นแท่นหนึ่งมีคำจารึกไว้ว่า `แด่พระเจ้าที่ไม่รู้จัก' เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงมาประกาศ และแสดงให้ท่านทั้งหลายทราบถึงพระเจ้าที่ท่านไม่รู้จักแต่ยังนมัสการอยู่

²³For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I announce to you.

²⁴พระเจ้าผู้ทรงสร้างโลกกับสิ่งทั้งปวงที่มีอยู่ในนั้น พระองค์ทรงเป็นเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์และแผ่นดินโลก มิได้ทรงสถิตในปูชนียสถานซึ่งมือมนุษย์ได้กระทำไว้

²⁴The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands,

²⁵การที่มือมนุษย์ปฏิบัตินมัสการพระองค์นั้นจะหมายว่า พระเจ้าต้องประสงค์สิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดจากเขาก็หามิได้ เพราะพระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้ประทานชีวิตและลมหายใจและสิ่งสารพัดแก่คนทั้งปวงต่างหาก

²⁵neither is he served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things.

²⁶พระองค์ได้ทรงสร้างมนุษย์ทุกชาติสืบสายโลหิตอันเดียวกันให้อยู่ทั่วพื้นพิภพโลก และได้ทรงกำหนดเวลาและเขตแดนให้เขาอยู่

²⁶He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings,

²⁷เพื่อเขาจะได้แสวงหาองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และหากเขาจะคลำหาก็จะได้พบพระองค์ ด้วยพระองค์มิทรงอยู่ห่างไกลจากเราทุกคนเลย

²⁷that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

²⁸ด้วยว่า `เรามีชีวิตและไหวตัวและเป็นอยู่ในพระองค์' ตามที่กวีบางคนในพวกท่านได้กล่าวว่า `เราทั้งหลายเป็นเชื้อสายของพระองค์'

²⁸‘For in him we live, and move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’

²⁹เหตุฉะนั้นเมื่อเราเป็นเชื้อสายของพระเจ้าแล้ว เราก็ไม่ควรถือว่าพระเจ้าทรงเป็นเหมือนทอง เงิน หรือหิน ซึ่งได้แกะสลักด้วยศิลปะและความคิดของมนุษย์

²⁹Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.

³⁰ในเวลาเมื่อมนุษย์ยังโฉดเขลาอยู่พระเจ้าทรงมองข้ามไปเสีย แต่เดี๋ยวนี้พระองค์ได้ตรัสสั่งแก่มนุษย์ทั้งปวงทั่วทุกแห่งให้กลับใจใหม่

³⁰The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,

³¹เพราะพระองค์ได้ทรงกำหนดวันหนึ่งไว้ ในวันนั้นพระองค์จะทรงพิพากษาโลกตามความชอบธรรม โดยให้ท่านองค์นั้นซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงเลือกไว้เป็นผู้พิพากษา และพระองค์ได้ให้พยานหลักฐานแก่คนทั้งปวงแล้วว่า ได้ทรงโปรดให้ท่านองค์นั้นคืนพระชนม์"

³¹because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”

³²ครั้นคนทั้งหลายได้ยินถึงเรื่องการซึ่งเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตายแล้ว บางคนก็เยาะเย้ย แต่คนอื่นๆว่า "เราจะฟังท่านกล่าวเรื่องนี้อีกต่อไป"

³²Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, “We want to hear you again concerning this.”

³³แล้วเปาโลจึงออกไปจากเขา

³³Thus Paul went out from among them.

³⁴แต่มีชายบางคนติดตามเปาโลไปและได้เชื่อถือ ในคนเหล่านั้นมีดิโอนิสิอัสผู้เป็นสมาชิกสภาอาเรโอปากัส กับหญิงคนหนึ่งชื่อดามาริส และคนอื่นๆด้วย

³⁴But certain men joined with him, and believed, among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
