¹ฝ่ายเปาโลจึงเพ่งดูพวกสมาชิกสภาแล้วกล่าวว่า "ท่านพี่น้องทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าได้ประพฤติต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าล้วนแต่ตามใจวินิจฉัยผิดชอบอันดีจนถึงทุกวันนี้"

¹Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until this day.”

²อานาเนียผู้เป็นมหาปุโรหิตจึงสั่งคนที่ยืนอยู่ใกล้ให้ตบปากเปาโล

²The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.

³เปาโลจึงกล่าวแก่ท่านว่า "พระเจ้าจะทรงตบเจ้า ผู้เป็นผนังที่ฉาบด้วยปูนขาว เจ้านั่งพิพากษาข้าตามพระราชบัญญัติ และยังสั่งให้เขาตบข้าซึ่งเป็นการผิดพระราชบัญญัติหรือ"

³Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”

⁴คนทั้งหลายที่ยืนอยู่ที่นั่นจึงถามว่า "เจ้าพูดหยาบคายต่อมหาปุโรหิตของพระเจ้าหรือ"

⁴Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”

⁵เปาโลจึงตอบว่า "พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าไม่ทราบว่าท่านเป็นมหาปุโรหิต ด้วยมีคำเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `อย่าพูดหยาบช้าต่อผู้ปกครองชนชาติของเจ้าเลย'"

⁵Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’” Exodus 22:28

⁶ครั้นเปาโลเห็นว่า ผู้ที่อยู่ในประชุมสภานั้นเป็นพวกสะดูสีส่วนหนึ่งและพวกฟาริสีส่วนหนึ่ง ท่านจึงร้องขึ้นต่อหน้าที่ประชุมว่า "ท่านพี่น้องทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าเป็นพวกฟาริสีและเป็นบุตรชายของพวกฟาริสี ที่ข้าพเจ้าถูกพิจารณาพิพากษานี้ก็เพราะเรื่องความหวังว่า มีการเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย"

⁶But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”

⁷เมื่อท่านกล่าวอย่างนั้นแล้ว พวกฟาริสีกับพวกสะดูสีก็เกิดเถียงกันขึ้น และที่ประชุมก็แตกเป็นสองพวก

⁷When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.

⁸ด้วยพวกสะดูสีถือว่า การที่เป็นขึ้นมาจากความตายนั้นไม่มีและทูตสวรรค์หรือวิญญาณก็ไม่มี แต่พวกฟาริสีถือว่ามีทั้งนั้น

⁸For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.

⁹แล้วก็อื้ออึงเกิดโกลาหล และพวกธรรมาจารย์บางคนที่อยู่ฝ่ายพวกฟาริสีก็ลุกขึ้นเถียงว่า "เราไม่เห็นว่าคนนี้มีความผิดอะไร ถ้าวิญญาณก็ดีหรือทูตสวรรค์ก็ดีได้พูดกับเขา พวกเราอย่าต่อสู้กับพระเจ้าเลย"

⁹A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”

¹⁰เมื่อการโต้เถียงกันรุนแรงขึ้น นายพันกลัวว่าเขาจะยื้อแย่งจับเปาโลฉีกเสีย ท่านจึงสั่งพวกทหารให้ลงไปรับเปาโลออกจากหมู่พวกนั้นพาเข้าไปไว้ในกรมทหาร

¹⁰When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the barracks.

¹¹ในเวลากลางคืนวันนั้นเอง องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงยืนอยู่กับเปาโลตรัสว่า "เปาโลเอ๋ย เจ้าจงมีใจกล้าเถิด เพราะว่าเจ้าได้เป็นพยานฝ่ายเราในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มฉันใด เจ้าจะต้องเป็นพยานในกรุงโรมด้วยฉันนั้น"

¹¹The following night, the Lord stood by him, and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”

¹²ครั้นเวลารุ่งเช้าพวกยิวบางคนได้สมทบกันปฏิญาณตัวว่า เขาทั้งหลายจะไม่กินจะไม่ดื่มอะไรกว่าจะได้ฆ่าเปาโลเสีย

¹²When it was day, some of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹³คนที่ร่วมกันปองร้ายนั้นมีกว่าสี่สิบคน

¹³There were more than forty people who had made this conspiracy.

¹⁴คนเหล่านั้นจึงไปหาพวกปุโรหิตใหญ่กับพวกผู้ใหญ่กล่าวว่า "พวกข้าพเจ้าได้ปฏิญาณตัวอย่างแข็งแรงว่าจะไม่รับประทานอาหารจนกว่าจะได้ฆ่าเปาโลเสีย

¹⁴They came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great curse, to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.

¹⁵ฉะนั้น บัดนี้ท่านทั้งหลายกับพวกสมาชิกสภาจงพูดให้นายพันเข้าใจว่า พวกท่านต้องการให้พาเปาโลลงมาหาท่านทั้งหลายพรุ่งนี้ เพื่อจะได้ซักถามความให้ถ้วนถี่ยิ่งกว่าแต่ก่อน ฝ่ายพวกข้าพเจ้าจะได้เตรียมตัวไว้พร้อมที่จะฆ่าเปาโลเสียเมื่อยังไม่ทันจะมาถึง"

¹⁵Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”

¹⁶แต่บุตรชายของน้องสาวเปาโลได้ยินเรื่องซึ่งเขาคอยทำร้ายนั้น จึงเข้ามาในกรมทหารบอกแก่เปาโล

¹⁶But Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.

¹⁷เปาโลจึงเรียกนายร้อยคนหนึ่งมากล่าวว่า "ขอพาชายหนุ่มคนนี้ไปหานายพันด้วย เพราะเขามีเรื่องที่จะแจ้งให้ทราบ"

¹⁷Paul summoned one of the centurions, and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”

¹⁸เหตุฉะนั้นนายร้อยจึงรับตัวชายหนุ่มคนนั้นไปหานายพันกล่าวว่า "เปาโลผู้ถูกขังอยู่นั้นเรียกข้าพเจ้า ขอให้พาชายหนุ่มคนนี้มาหาท่าน เพราะเขามีเรื่องที่จะแจ้งให้ท่านทราบ"

¹⁸So he took him, and brought him to the commanding officer, and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you, who has something to tell you.”

¹⁹นายพันจึงจูงมือชายนั้นไปแต่ลำพัง แล้วถามว่า "เจ้าจะแจ้งความอะไรแก่เรา"

¹⁹The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”

²⁰เขาจึงตอบว่า "พวกยิวตกลงกันจะขอท่านให้พาเปาโลลงไปยังสภาเวลาพรุ่งนี้ ทำเสมือนว่าจะไต่สวนเรื่องเขาให้ถ้วนถี่ยิ่งกว่าแต่ก่อน

²⁰He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.

²¹แต่ท่านอย่าฟังเขา เพราะว่าในพวกเขานั้นมีกว่าสี่สิบคนคอยปองร้ายต่อเปาโล และได้ปฏิญาณตัวว่าจะไม่กินหรือดื่มอะไรจนกว่าจะได้ฆ่าเปาโลเสีย และเดี๋ยวนี้เขาพร้อมแล้ว กำลังคอยรับคำสัญญาจากท่าน"

²¹Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse neither to eat nor to drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”

²²นายพันจึงให้ชายหนุ่มนั้นไป กำชับว่า "อย่าบอกผู้ใดให้รู้ว่า เจ้าได้แจ้งความเรื่องนี้แก่เรา"

²²So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”

²³ฝ่ายนายพันจึงเรียกนายร้อยสองคนมาสั่งว่า "จงจัดพลทหารสองร้อยกับทหารม้าเจ็ดสิบคน และทหารหอกสองร้อย ให้พร้อมในเวลาสามทุ่มคืนวันนี้จะไปยังเมืองซีซารียา

²³He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen, and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night about 9:00 PM .”

²⁴และจงจัดสัตว์ให้เปาโลขี่ จะได้ป้องกันส่งไปยังเฟลิกส์ผู้ว่าราชการเมือง"

²⁴He asked them to provide animals, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.

²⁵แล้วนายพันจึงเขียนจดหมายมีใจความดังต่อไปนี้

²⁵He wrote a letter like this:

²⁶"คลาวดิอัสลีเซียสเรียนเจ้าคุณเฟลิกส์ ท่านผู้ว่าราชการทราบ

²⁶“Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.

²⁷พวกยิวได้จับคนนี้ไว้และเกือบจะฆ่าเขาเสียแล้ว แต่ข้าพเจ้าพาพวกทหารไปช่วยเขาไว้ได้ ด้วยข้าพเจ้าได้เข้าใจว่าเขาเป็นคนสัญชาติโรม

²⁷“This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them, when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.

²⁸ข้าพเจ้าอยากจะทราบเหตุที่พวกยิวฟ้องเขา ข้าพเจ้าจึงพาเขาไปยังสภาของพวกยิว

²⁸Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.

²⁹ข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่าเขาถูกฟ้องในเรื่องอันเกี่ยวกับกฎหมายของพวกยิว แต่ไม่มีข้อหาที่เขาควรจะตายหรือควรจะต้องจำไว้

²⁹I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.

³⁰เมื่อมีคนบอกข้าพเจ้าให้ทราบว่าพวกยิวมีการปองร้ายคนนี้ ข้าพเจ้าจึงส่งเขามาหาท่านทีเดียว แล้วได้สั่งให้พวกโจทก์ไปว่าความกับเขาต่อหน้าท่าน สวัสดี"

³⁰When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”

³¹ดังนั้นในเวลากลางคืนพวกทหารจึงพาเปาโลไปถึงเมืองอันทิปาตรีส์ตามคำสั่ง

³¹So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.

³²ครั้นรุ่งเช้าเขาให้ทหารม้าไปส่งเปาโล แล้วเขาก็กลับไปยังกรมทหาร

³²But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.

³³ครั้นทหารม้าไปถึงเมืองซีซารียาแล้ว จึงส่งจดหมายให้แก่ผู้ว่าราชการเมืองและได้มอบเปาโลไว้ให้ท่านด้วย

³³When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.

³⁴เมื่อผู้ว่าราชการเมืองได้อ่านจดหมายแล้ว จึงถามว่าเปาโลมาจากแคว้นไหน เมื่อท่านทราบว่ามาจากซีลีเซีย

³⁴When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,

³⁵ท่านจึงกล่าวว่า "เมื่อพวกโจทก์มาพร้อมกันแล้ว เราจะฟังคำให้การของเจ้า" ท่านจึงสั่งให้คุมเปาโลไปไว้ที่ศาลปรีโทเรียมของเฮโรด

³⁵“I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
