¹After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.

²ครั้นเรียกเปาโลเข้ามาแล้ว เทอร์ทูลลัสจึงเริ่มฟ้องว่า "ท่านเจ้าคุณเฟลิกส์เจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายได้มีความสงบสุขยิ่งนัก เพราะท่านให้มีการปรับปรุงอันเป็นคุณประโยชน์แก่ชาตินี้โดยการคุ้มครองของท่าน

²When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, “Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that excellent measures are coming to this nation,

³ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายรับอยู่ทุกประการทุกแห่งด้วยจิตกตัญญูเป็นที่ยิ่ง

³we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

⁴แต่เพื่อมิให้ท่านป่วยการมากไป ข้าพเจ้าขอความกรุณาโปรดฟังข้าพเจ้าสักหน่อยหนึ่ง

⁴But, that I don’t delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.

⁵ด้วยข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเห็นว่า ชายคนนี้เป็นคนพาลยุยงพวกยิวทั้งหลายให้เกิดการวุ่นวายทั่วพิภพ และเป็นตัวการของพวกนาซาเร็ธนั้น

⁵For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

⁶กับอีกนัยหนึ่งเขาหมายจะทำให้พระวิหารเป็นมลทิน ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจึงจับเขาไว้ และก็คงจะได้พิพากษาเขาตามกฎหมายของพวกข้าพเจ้า

⁶He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him. TR adds “We wanted to judge him according to our law,”

⁷แต่นายพันลีเซียสได้มาใช้อำนาจแย่งตัวเขาไปเสียจากมือของเรา

⁷ TR adds “but the commanding officer, Lysias, came by and with great violence took him out of our hands,”

⁸และสั่งให้โจทก์มาฟ้องเขาต่อหน้าท่าน ถ้าท่านเองจะไต่ถามเขา ท่านจะทราบได้ว่า ข้อกล่าวหาของพวกข้าพเจ้าจริงหรือไม่"

⁸ TR adds “commanding his accusers to come to you.” By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him.”

⁹ฝ่ายพวกยิวจึงสนับสนุนคำกล่าวหาด้วยยืนยันว่าเป็นจริงอย่างนั้น

⁹The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so.

¹⁰เมื่อผู้ว่าราชการเมืองทำสำคัญให้เปาโลพูด ท่านจึงเรียนว่า "เนื่องจากที่ข้าพเจ้าได้ทราบว่าท่านเป็นผู้พิพากษาแก่ชาตินี้หลายปีแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าก็จะขอแก้คดีของข้าพเจ้าด้วยความเบาใจ

¹⁰When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, “Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,

¹¹ท่านสืบทราบได้ว่า ตั้งแต่ข้าพเจ้าขึ้นไปนมัสการในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มนั้นยังไม่เกินสิบสองวัน

¹¹seeing that you can recognize that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.

¹²เขาไม่ได้เห็นข้าพเจ้าเถียงกันกับผู้หนึ่งผู้ใด หรือยุยงประชาชนให้วุ่นวาย ไม่ว่าในพระวิหาร ในธรรมศาลาหรือในเมือง

¹²In the temple they didn’t find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city.

¹³เหตุการณ์ทั้งปวงที่เขากำลังฟ้องข้าพเจ้านี้ เขาพิสูจน์ไม่ได้

¹³Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

¹⁴แต่ว่าข้าพเจ้าขอรับต่อหน้าท่านอย่างหนึ่ง คือตามทางนั้นที่เขาถือว่าเป็นลัทธินอกรีต ข้าพเจ้าปฏิบัติพระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษทั้งหลายของข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าได้เชื่อถือคำซึ่งมีเขียนไว้ในพระราชบัญญัติและในคัมภีร์ของศาสดาพยากรณ์ทั้งหมด

¹⁴But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

¹⁵ข้าพเจ้ามีความหวังใจในพระเจ้าตามซึ่งเขาเองก็มีความหวังใจด้วย คือหวังใจว่าคนทั้งปวงทั้งคนที่ชอบธรรมและคนที่ไม่ชอบธรรมจะเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย

¹⁵having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

¹⁶ในข้อนี้ ข้าพเจ้าอุตส่าห์ประพฤติตามใจวินิจฉัยผิดชอบที่ปราศจากผิดต่อพระเจ้าและต่อมนุษย์

¹⁶Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.

¹⁷ครั้นล่วงมาหลายปีแล้ว ข้าพเจ้านำทานและเครื่องบูชามายังชนชาติของข้าพเจ้า

¹⁷Now after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings;

¹⁸คราวนั้นมีพวกยิวบางคนที่มาจากแคว้นเอเชียได้พบข้าพเจ้าในพระวิหาร เมื่อข้าพเจ้าชำระตัวแล้ว เขามิได้พบข้าพเจ้าอยู่กับหมู่คนหรือทำวุ่นวาย

¹⁸amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil.

¹⁹ถ้าคนเหล่านั้นมีเรื่องอะไรที่จะฟ้องข้าพเจ้า เขาควรจะมาฟ้องต่อหน้าท่านที่นี่แล้ว

¹⁹They ought to have been here before you, and to make accusation, if they had anything against me.

²⁰หรือขอให้คนเหล่านี้เองกล่าวเรื่องความผิดที่เขาเห็น เมื่อข้าพเจ้ายืนอยู่ต่อหน้าสภา

²⁰Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,

²¹เว้นไว้แต่ข้อเดียวซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้ร้องขึ้นในท่ามกลางเขาว่า `วันนี้ข้าพเจ้าถูกพิจารณาพิพากษาต่อหน้าท่านทั้งหลาย เพราะเหตุเรื่องการเป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย'"

²¹unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’”

²²เมื่อเฟลิกส์ได้ยินสิ่งเหล่านี้ ท่านก็เลื่อนการพิจารณาไว้ก่อน เพราะท่านได้รู้เรื่องของทางนั้นถี่ถ้วนแล้ว ท่านจึงกล่าวว่า "เมื่อลีเซียสนายพันลงมา เราจะชำระความของเจ้า"

²²But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.”

²³เฟลิกส์สั่งนายร้อยให้คุมตัวเปาโลไว้ แต่ลดหย่อนการกวดขันบ้าง ไม่ให้ห้ามผู้ใดที่เป็นผู้ที่รู้จักกับท่านที่จะเข้ามาปรนนิบัติหรือเยี่ยมเยียน

²³He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.

²⁴เมื่อล่วงมาได้หลายวันแล้วเฟลิกส์มากับภรรยาชื่อดรูสิลลาผู้เป็นชาติยิว ท่านให้เรียกเปาโลมา แล้วได้ฟังเปาโลกล่าวเรื่องความเชื่อในพระคริสต์

²⁴But after some days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.

²⁵ขณะเมื่อเปาโลอ้างถึงความชอบธรรม ความอดกลั้นใจทางกาม และการพิพากษาซึ่งจะมาเบื้องหน้านั้น เฟลิกส์ก็กลัวจนตัวสั่น จึงพูดว่า "คราวนี้จงไปก่อนเถอะ เมื่อเรามีโอกาส เราจะเรียกท่านมาอีก"

²⁵As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”

²⁶อีกนัยหนึ่งเฟลิกส์หวังใจว่า เปาโลจะให้เงินสินบนแก่ท่าน เพื่อท่านจะได้ปล่อยเปาโล เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจึงเรียกเปาโลมาสนทนากันบ่อยๆ

²⁶Meanwhile, he also hoped that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often, and talked with him.

²⁷แต่เมื่อสองปีล่วงไปแล้ว ปอรสิอัสเฟสทัสมารับราชการแทนเฟลิกส์ เฟลิกส์อยากจะได้ความชอบจากพวกยิวจึงทิ้งเปาโลไว้ในคุก

²⁷But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
