¹เมื่อเฟสทัสเข้ารับตำแหน่งราชการได้สามวันแล้ว จึงออกจากเมืองซีซารียาขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม

¹Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.

²มหาปุโรหิตกับคนสำคัญๆในพวกยิวมาฟ้องเปาโลต่อท่าน และได้วิงวอนท่าน

²Then the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul, and they begged him,

³ขอให้กรุณาเขาโดยสั่งให้ส่งเปาโลมายังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม ด้วยเขาคิดจะซุ่มคอยฆ่าท่านเสียกลางทาง

³asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem; plotting to kill him on the way.

⁴ฝ่ายเฟสทัสจึงตอบว่า เปาโลนั้นควรจะถูกคุมไว้ในเมืองซีซารียา และอีกหน่อยหนึ่งท่านเองก็จะกลับไปยังเมืองนั้น

⁴However Festus answered that Paul should be kept in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart shortly.

⁵ท่านจึงว่า "ถ้าเปาโลมีความผิดอย่างหนึ่งอย่างใด ให้ผู้ใดในพวกท่านที่สามารถลงไปด้วยกันกับเรายื่นฟ้องเอาเถิด"

⁵“Let them therefore,” said he, “that are in power among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong in the man, let them accuse him.”

⁶เมื่อท่านพักอยู่ที่นั่นเกินกว่าสิบวันแล้ว ก็ได้ลงไปยังเมืองซีซารียา ครั้นรุ่งขึ้นท่านจึงนั่งบัลลังก์พิพากษา และสั่งให้พาเปาโลเข้ามา

⁶When he had stayed among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea, and on the next day he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Paul to be brought.

⁷ครั้นเปาโลเข้ามาแล้ว พวกยิวที่ลงมาจากกรุงเยรูซาเล็มก็ยืนล้อมไว้รอบ และกล่าวความอุกฉกรรจ์ใส่เปาโลหลายข้อ แต่พิสูจน์ไม่ได้

⁷When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove,

⁸เปาโลจึงแก้คดีเองว่า "ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้กระทำอะไรผิดกฎหมายของพวกยิว หรือต่อพระวิหาร หรือต่อซีซาร์"

⁸while he said in his defense, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all.”

⁹ฝ่ายเฟสทัสอยากได้ความชอบจากพวกยิวจึงถามเปาโลว่า "เจ้าจะขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มให้เราชำระความเรื่องนี้ที่นั่นหรือ"

⁹But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem, and be judged by me there concerning these things?”

¹⁰เปาโลตอบว่า "ข้าพเจ้าก็กำลังยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าบัลลังก์พิพากษาของซีซาร์อยู่แล้ว ก็สมควรจะพิพากษาข้าพเจ้าเสียที่นี่ตามที่ท่านทราบดีอยู่แล้วว่า ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้กระทำผิดต่อพวกยิว

¹⁰But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.

¹¹ถ้าข้าพเจ้าเป็นผู้กระทำผิด หรือได้กระทำอะไรที่ควรจะมีโทษถึงตาย ข้าพเจ้าก็ยอมตายไม่ขัดขืน แต่ถ้าเรื่องที่เขาฟ้องข้าพเจ้านั้นไม่จริงแล้ว ไม่มีผู้ใดมีอำนาจจะมอบข้าพเจ้าให้เขาได้ ข้าพเจ้าขออุทธรณ์ถึงซีซาร์"

¹¹For if I have done wrong, and have committed anything worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that they accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

¹²ฝ่ายเฟสทัสเมื่อพูดกับที่ปรึกษาแล้วจึงตอบว่า "เจ้าได้ขออุทธรณ์ถึงซีซาร์แล้วหรือ เจ้าก็จะต้องไปเฝ้าซีซาร์"

¹²Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go.”

¹³ครั้นล่วงไปหลายวัน กษัตริย์อากริปปากับพระนางเบอร์นิสก็เสด็จมาเยี่ยมคำนับเฟสทัสยังเมืองซีซารียา

¹³Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and greeted Festus.

¹⁴ขณะที่ท่านค้างอยู่ที่นั่นหลายวัน เฟสทัสก็เล่าเรื่องคดีของเปาโลให้กษัตริย์ฟังว่า "มีชายคนหนึ่งซึ่งเฟลิกซ์ได้ขังทิ้งไว้

¹⁴As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;

¹⁵เมื่อข้าพเจ้าไปกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม พวกปุโรหิตใหญ่กับพวกผู้ใหญ่ของพวกยิวมาฟ้องขอให้ข้าพเจ้าตัดสินลงโทษเขา

¹⁵about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.

¹⁶ข้าพเจ้าจึงตอบพวกเขาว่า ไม่ใช่ธรรมเนียมของชาวโรมที่จะมอบตัวจำเลยให้ตายก่อนที่โจทก์กับจำเลยมาพร้อมหน้ากัน และให้จำเลยมีโอกาสแก้คดีในข้อหานั้น

¹⁶To whom I answered that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before the accused has met the accusers face to face, and has had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.

¹⁷ครั้นพวกเขามาถึงที่นี่แล้ว ข้าพเจ้าจึงมิได้รอช้า ในวันรุ่งขึ้นข้าพเจ้าได้นั่งบัลลังก์พิพากษาและสั่งให้พาจำเลยเข้ามา

¹⁷When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought.

¹⁸เมื่อพวกโจทก์ยืนขึ้น เขามิได้กล่าวหาจำเลยเหมือนที่ข้าพเจ้าคาดไว้นั้น

¹⁸Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no charge of such things as I supposed;

¹⁹เป็นแต่เพียงปัญหาเถียงกันด้วยเรื่องลัทธิศาสนาของเขาเอง และด้วยเรื่องคนหนึ่งที่ชื่อเยซูซึ่งตายแล้ว แต่เปาโลยืนยันว่ายังเป็นอยู่

¹⁹but had certain questions against him about their own religion, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

²⁰เมื่อข้าพเจ้ายังงงงวยอยู่ว่าจะพิจารณาปัญหานั้นอย่างไรดี จึงถามเปาโลว่า จะยอมขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มให้ชำระความนั้นที่นั่นหรือไม่

²⁰Being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.

²¹แต่เมื่อเปาโลได้อุทธรณ์ขอให้ขังไว้เพื่อให้ออกัสตัสตัดสิน ข้าพเจ้าจึงสั่งให้คุมขังเขาไว้จนกว่าจะส่งตัวไปถึงซีซาร์ได้"

²¹But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

²²อากริปปาจึงกล่าวแก่เฟสทัสว่า "ข้าพเจ้าจะใคร่ฟังคนนั้นด้วย" เฟสทัสจึงกล่าวว่า "พรุ่งนี้ท่านจะได้ฟังเขา"

²²Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”

²³ครั้นวันรุ่งขึ้นอากริปปากับเบอร์นิสเสด็จมาพร้อมด้วยราชบริพารเป็นที่สง่าผ่าเผยมาก จึงเข้าไปประทับในห้องพิจารณาพร้อมกับนายพันและคนสำคัญๆทั้งหลายในนครนั้น แล้วเฟสทัสจึงสั่งให้พาเปาโลเข้ามา

²³So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.

²⁴เฟสทัสจึงกล่าวว่า "ท่านกษัตริย์อากริปปา และท่านทั้งหลายที่อยู่ด้วยกันที่นี่ ท่านทั้งหลายเห็นชายคนนี้ที่บรรดาพวกยิวได้วิงวอนข้าพเจ้าทั้งในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มและที่นี่ด้วยร้องว่าเขาไม่ควรจะมีชีวิตอยู่ต่อไป

²⁴Festus said, “King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

²⁵แต่ข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่าเขาไม่ได้ทำผิดสิ่งไรที่ควรจะต้องตาย และเพราะเขาเองได้อุทธรณ์ถึงออกัสตัส ข้าพเจ้าตกลงใจว่าจะส่งเขาไป

²⁵But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him.

²⁶ข้าพเจ้าไม่มีรายงานอะไรแน่ชัดเรื่องคนนี้ที่จะถวายเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงพาเขาออกมาต่อหน้าท่านทั้งหลาย และโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งต่อพระพักตร์ของพระองค์ กษัตริย์อากริปปา หวังว่าเมื่อไต่สวนแล้วข้าพเจ้าจะมีเรื่องพอที่จะถวายรายงานไปได้บ้าง

²⁶Of whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord. Therefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, that, after examination, I may have something to write.

²⁷เพราะข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่า ที่จะส่งแต่จำเลยไป และมิได้ส่งข้อหาไปด้วย ก็เป็นการเหลวไหลไม่ได้เรื่อง"

²⁷For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to also specify the charges against him.”
