1องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าดังนี้ว่า ดูเถิด พระองค์ทรงสร้างตั๊กแตน เมื่อพืชรุ่นหลังเริ่มงอกขึ้นมา และดูเถิด เป็นพืชรุ่นหลังจากที่กษัตริย์ได้เกี่ยวแล้ว
1Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: and behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s harvest.
2และต่อมาเมื่อตั๊กแตนกินหญ้าในแผ่นดินนั้นหมดแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าจึงว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า ขอทรงให้อภัย ยาโคบจะตั้งอยู่ได้อย่างไร เพราะเขาเล็กนิดเดียว"
2It happened that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord Yahweh, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
3เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกลับพระทัย พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "จะไม่เป็นไปอย่างนี้"
3Yahweh relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says Yahweh.
4องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าอย่างนี้ว่า ดูเถิด องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าทรงเรียกให้มีการสู้ความด้วยไฟ และไฟได้เผาผลาญมหาสมุทรใหญ่ และกินส่วนหนึ่งเสีย
4Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me and behold, the Lord Yahweh called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.
5ข้าพเจ้าจึงทูลว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า ขอพระองค์ทรงยับยั้งไว้ ยาโคบจะตั้งอยู่ได้อย่างไร เพราะเขาเล็กนิดเดียว"
5Then I said, “Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
6เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกลับพระทัย องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า "จะไม่เป็นไปอย่างนั้นด้วย"
6Yahweh relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord Yahweh.
7พระองค์ทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าว่า ดูเถิด องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประทับยืนอยู่ที่ข้างกำแพงสร้างด้วยใช้สายดิ่ง มีสายดิ่งอยู่ในพระหัตถ์
7Thus he showed me and behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
8และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า "อาโมสเอ๋ย เจ้าเห็นอะไร" และข้าพเจ้าทูลว่า "สายดิ่งเส้นหนึ่ง พระเจ้าข้า" แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด เราจะเอาสายดิ่งจับท่ามกลางอิสราเอลประชาชนของเรา เราจะไม่ผ่านเขาไปอีก
8Yahweh said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.
9สถานที่อันสูงทั้งหลายของอิสอัคจะรกร้างไป และสถานบริสุทธิ์ทั้งหลายของอิสราเอลจะถูกทิ้งไว้เสียเปล่า และเราจะลุกขึ้นต่อสู้วงศ์วานเยโรโบอัมด้วยดาบ"
9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
10แล้วอามาซิยาห์ปุโรหิตแห่งเบธเอลส่งคนไปยังเยโรโบอัมกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอล ทูลว่า "อาโมสได้คิดกบฏต่อพระองค์ในท่ามกลางวงศ์วานอิสราเอล บรรดาถ้อยคำของเขาก็หนักแผ่นดิน
10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
11เพราะอาโมสได้กล่าวดังนี้ว่า `เยโรโบอัมจะสิ้นชีวิตด้วยดาบ และอิสราเอลจะตกไปเป็นเชลยห่างจากแผ่นดินของเขา'"
11For Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
12และอามาซิยาห์พูดกับอาโมสว่า "โอ ท่านผู้ทำนาย ไปเถิด จงหนีไปเสียที่แผ่นดินยูดาห์ ไปรับประทานอาหารที่นั่น และพยากรณ์ที่นั่นเถิด
12Amaziah also said to Amos, “You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13อย่ามาพยากรณ์ที่เบธเอลอีกเลย เพราะว่านี้เป็นสถานบริสุทธิ์ของกษัตริย์ และเป็นพระราชสำนักของกษัตริย์"
13but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”
14อาโมสจึงตอบอามาซิยาห์ว่า "ข้าพเจ้าไม่ใช่ผู้พยากรณ์ หรือลูกชายของผู้พยากรณ์ ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนเลี้ยงสัตว์ และเป็นคนเก็บผลมะเดื่อ
14Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;
15และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงนำข้าพเจ้ามาจากการติดตามฝูงแพะแกะ และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า `ไปซิ จงพยากรณ์แก่อิสราเอลประชาชนของเรา'
15and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
16บัดนี้ จงฟังพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ ท่านกล่าวว่า `อย่าพยากรณ์กล่าวโทษอิสราเอล และอย่าเทศนากล่าวโทษวงศ์วานอิสอัค'
16Now therefore listen to the word of Yahweh: ‘You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’
17เพราะฉะนั้น พระเยโฮวาห์จึงตรัสดังนี้ว่า `ภรรยาของท่านจะเป็นหญิงโสเภณีที่ในเมือง บุตรชายหญิงของท่านจะล้มลงตายด้วยดาบ และที่ดินของท่านเขาจะขึงเส้นแบ่งออก ตัวท่านเองจะสิ้นชีวิตในแผ่นดินที่ไม่สะอาด และอิสราเอลจะต้องตกไปเป็นเชลยห่างจากแผ่นดินของตนเป็นแน่'"
17Therefore thus says Yahweh: ‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
