¹เพราะข้าพเจ้าใคร่ให้ท่านรู้ว่า ข้าพเจ้าสู้อุตส่าห์มากเพียงไรเพื่อท่าน เพื่อชาวเมืองเลาดีเซียและเพื่อคนทั้งปวงที่ยังไม่เห็นหน้าของข้าพเจ้าในฝ่ายเนื้อหนัง

¹For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

²เพื่อเขาจะได้รับความชูใจ และเข้าติดสนิทกันในความรัก และมั่นใจในความอุดมสมบูรณ์แห่งความเข้าใจ และเข้าในความรู้ความลึกลับของพระเจ้าและของพระบิดาและของพระคริสต์

²that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,

³ซึ่งคลังสติปัญญาและความรู้ทุกอย่างทรงปิดซ่อนไว้ในพระองค์

³in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

⁴ข้าพเจ้ากล่าวเช่นนี้เพื่อมิให้ผู้ใดล่อลวงท่านด้วยคำชักชวนอันน่าฟัง

⁴Now this I say that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech.

⁵เพราะถึงแม้ว่าตัวของข้าพเจ้าไม่อยู่กับท่าน แต่ใจของข้าพเจ้ายังอยู่กับท่าน และมีความชื่นชมยินดีที่ได้เห็นท่านอยู่กันอย่างเรียบร้อย และเห็นความเชื่อมั่นคงของท่านในพระคริสต์

⁵For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

⁶เหตุฉะนั้นเมื่อท่านได้รับพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้าแล้วฉันใด จงดำเนินตามพระองค์ด้วยฉันนั้น

⁶As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him,

⁷ได้หยั่งรากและก่อร่างสร้างขึ้นในพระองค์ และมั่นคงอยู่ในความเชื่อ ตามที่ท่านได้รับคำสั่งสอนมาแล้ว และบริบูรณ์ด้วยการขอบพระคุณ

⁷rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.

⁸จงระวังให้ดี เกรงว่าจะมีผู้ใดทำให้ท่านตกเป็นเหยื่อด้วยหลักปรัชญาและด้วยคำล่อลวงอันไม่มีสาระ ตามธรรมเนียมของมนุษย์ ตามหลักการต่างๆที่เป็นของโลก ไม่ใช่ตามพระคริสต์

⁸Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

⁹เพราะว่าในพระองค์นั้นสภาพของพระเจ้าดำรงอยู่อย่างบริบูรณ์

⁹For in him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily,

¹⁰และท่านได้ความครบบริบูรณ์ในพระองค์ ผู้เป็นศีรษะแห่งปวงเทพผู้ครองและศักดิเทพ

¹⁰and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power;

¹¹ในพระองค์นั้น ท่านได้รับเข้าสุหนัต ซึ่งเป็นการเข้าสุหนัตที่มือมนุษย์มิได้กระทำ โดยที่ท่านได้สละกายแห่งความบาปของเนื้อหนังเสีย โดยการเข้าสุหนัตแห่งพระคริสต์

¹¹in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;

¹²ได้ถูกฝังไว้กับพระองค์ในบัพติศมา ซึ่งท่านได้เป็นขึ้นมากับพระองค์ด้วย โดยความเชื่อในการกระทำของพระเจ้า ผู้ได้ทรงบันดาลให้พระองค์เป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย

¹²having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

¹³และท่านที่ตายแล้วด้วยความบาปทั้งหลายของท่านและด้วยเหตุที่เนื้อหนังของท่านมิได้เข้าสุหนัต พระองค์ได้ทรงให้ท่านมีชีวิตด้วยกันกับพระองค์และทรงโปรดยกโทษการละเมิดทั้งหลายของท่าน

¹³You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

¹⁴พระองค์ทรงลบกรมธรรม์ในข้อบัญญัติต่างๆที่ต่อต้านเราอยู่ ซึ่งขัดขวางเราและได้ทรงหยิบเอาไปเสียให้พ้น โดยทรงตรึงไว้ที่กางเขนของพระองค์

¹⁴wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross;

¹⁵พระองค์ทรงปลดเทพผู้ครองและศักดิเทพเสีย พระองค์ได้ทรงประจานเขาและชนะเขาโดยกางเขนนั้น

¹⁵having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

¹⁶เหตุฉะนั้นอย่าให้ผู้ใดพิพากษาปรักปรำท่านในเรื่องการกินการดื่ม ในเรื่องการถือเทศกาล วันต้นเดือน หรือวันสะบาโต

¹⁶Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day,

¹⁷สิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นเพียงเงาของเหตุการณ์ที่จะมีมาในภายหลัง แต่กายนั้นเป็นของพระคริสต์

¹⁷which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.

¹⁸อย่าให้ผู้ใดโกงบำเหน็จของท่านด้วยการจงใจถ่อมตัวลงและกราบไหว้ทูตสวรรค์ ใฝ่ฝันในสิ่งเหล่านั้นที่เขาไม่ได้เห็น ผยองขึ้นเปล่าๆตามความคิดของเนื้อหนัง

¹⁸Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

¹⁹และไม่ได้ยึดมั่นในพระองค์ผู้ทรงเป็นศีรษะ ศีรษะนั้นเป็นเหตุให้กายทั้งหมดได้รับการบำรุงเลี้ยงและติดต่อกันด้วยข้อและเอ็นต่างๆ จึงได้เจริญขึ้นตามที่พระเจ้าทรงโปรดให้เจริญขึ้นนั้น

¹⁹and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth.

²⁰ถ้าท่านตายกับพระคริสต์พ้นจากหลักการต่างๆที่เป็นของโลกแล้ว เหตุไฉนท่านจึงมีชีวิตอยู่เหมือนกับว่าท่านยังอยู่ฝ่ายโลก ยอมอยู่ใต้กฎต่างๆ

²⁰If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,

²¹(เช่น "อย่าแตะต้อง" "อย่าชิม" "อย่าเอามือหยิบ"

²¹“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch”

²²ซึ่งทั้งหมดจะพินาศเมื่อทำดังนั้น) อันเป็นหลักธรรมและคำสอนของมนุษย์

²²(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?

²³จริงอยู่สิ่งเหล่านี้ดูท่าทีมีปัญญา คือการเต็มใจนมัสการ การถ่อมตัวลง และการทรมานกาย แต่ไม่มีประโยชน์อะไรในการต่อสู้กับความต้องการของเนื้อหนัง

²³Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
