¹These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah over against Suph, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

²It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

³อยู่มาในวันที่หนึ่งเดือนที่สิบเอ็ดปีที่สี่สิบโมเสสได้กล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอล ตามบรรดาพระดำรัสที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประทานแก่ท่าน เป็นพระบัญญัติให้แก่เขาทั้งหลาย

³It happened in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. had given him in commandment to them;

⁴หลังจากที่ท่านได้ฆ่าสิโหนกษัตริย์คนอาโมไรต์ ที่อยู่เมืองเฮชโบน และโอกกษัตริย์เมืองบาชาน ผู้ซึ่งอยู่ในอัชทาโรท ณ ตำบลเอเดรอีนั้นแล้ว

⁴after he had struck Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

⁵Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

⁶“Yahweh our God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You have lived long enough in this mountain:

⁷turn, and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites, and to all the places near there, in the Arabah, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and in the South, and by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁸ดูเถิด เราได้ตั้งแผ่นดินนั้นไว้ตรงหน้าเจ้าทั้งหลาย เจ้าทั้งหลายจงเข้าไปยึดครองแผ่นดินซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปฏิญาณกับบรรพบุรุษของเจ้า คืออับราฮัม อิสอัค และยาโคบ ว่าจะให้แก่เขาทั้งหลายและแก่เชื้อสายของเขาที่มาภายหลังเขาด้วย'

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.”

⁹ครั้งนั้นข้าพเจ้าได้บอกท่านทั้งหลายว่า `ข้าพเจ้าผู้เดียวแบกพวกท่านทั้งหลายไม่ไหว

⁹I spoke to you at that time, saying, “I am not able to bear you myself alone:

¹⁰พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านได้ทรงให้ท่านทั้งหลายทวีมากขึ้น และดูเถิด ทุกวันนี้พวกท่านทั้งหลายมีจำนวนมากดุจดวงดาวทั้งหลายในท้องฟ้า

¹⁰Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as the stars of the sky for multitude.

¹¹(ขอพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของท่านทั้งหลายทรงกระทำให้ท่านทั้งหลายทวีขึ้นพันเท่าและทรงอำนวยพระพรแก่ท่าน ดังที่พระองค์ได้ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่ท่านทั้งหลายแล้วนั้น)

¹¹Yahweh, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are, and bless you, as he has promised you!

¹²ข้าพเจ้าคนเดียวจะแบกท่านทั้งหลายผู้เป็นภาระและเป็นความยากลำบากและการทุ่มเถียงของท่านทั้งหลายอย่างไรได้

¹²How can I myself alone bear your encumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

¹³จงเลือกคนที่มีปัญญา มีความเข้าใจและมีชื่อตามตระกูลของท่านทั้งหลาย และข้าพเจ้าจะตั้งเขาให้เป็นหัวหน้าของท่านทั้งหลาย'

¹³Take wise men of understanding and well known according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

¹⁴ท่านทั้งหลายได้ตอบข้าพเจ้าว่า `สิ่งที่ท่านกล่าวนั้นดีแล้ว ควรที่ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะกระทำ'

¹⁴You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”

¹⁵ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้เลือกหัวหน้าจากทุกตระกูล ซึ่งเป็นคนมีปัญญาและมีชื่อ ตั้งไว้เป็นใหญ่เหนือท่านทั้งหลาย ให้เป็นนายพัน นายร้อย นายห้าสิบ นายสิบ และพนักงานต่างๆตามตระกูลของท่าน

¹⁵So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.

¹⁶ครั้งนั้นข้าพเจ้าได้กล่าวกำชับพวกตุลาการของท่านทั้งหลายว่า `จงพิจารณาคดีของพี่น้องและตัดสินความตามยุติธรรมระหว่างชายคนหนึ่งและพี่น้องของตน หรือคนต่างด้าวที่อาศัยอยู่กับท่าน

¹⁶I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.

¹⁷ท่านทั้งหลายอย่าลำเอียงในการพิพากษา จงฟังผู้น้อยและผู้ใหญ่ให้เหมือนกัน ท่านทั้งหลายอย่ากลัวหน้ามนุษย์เลย เพราะการพิพากษานั้นเป็นการของพระเจ้า และคดีใดที่ยากเกินไปสำหรับท่านจงนำมาให้ข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะพิจารณาเอง'

¹⁷You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike; you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

¹⁸ครั้งนั้นข้าพเจ้าได้สั่งท่านทั้งหลายถึงบรรดาสิ่งที่ท่านทั้งหลายควรกระทำ

¹⁸I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.

¹⁹เราได้ออกไปจากโฮเรบเดินทะลุถิ่นทุรกันดารใหญ่อันเป็นที่น่ากลัวตามที่ท่านทั้งหลายได้เห็นนั้น เดินไปตามแดนเทือกเขาของคนอาโมไรต์ ดังที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราได้ตรัสสั่งเราไว้ และเรามาถึงคาเดชบารเนีย

¹⁹We traveled from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as Yahweh our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.

²⁰และข้าพเจ้าได้กล่าวแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า `ท่านทั้งหลายมาถึงแดนเทือกเขาของคนอาโมไรต์แล้ว เป็นที่ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราประทานแก่เราทั้งหลาย

²⁰I said to you, “You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which Yahweh our God gives to us.

²¹ดูเถิด พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านได้ทรงตั้งแผ่นดินนั้นไว้ตรงหน้าท่านแล้ว จงขึ้นไปยึดแผ่นดินนั้น ดังที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของบรรพบุรุษของพวกท่านได้ตรัสสั่งไว้ อย่ากลัวหรืออย่าตกใจไปเลย'

²¹Behold, Yahweh your God has set the land before you: go up, take possession, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you; don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”

²²แล้วท่านทั้งหลายทุกคนได้เข้ามาหาข้าพเจ้าพูดว่า `ให้เราทั้งหลายใช้คนไปก่อนเราและสอดแนมดูแผ่นดินนั้นแทนเรา นำข่าวเรื่องทางที่เราจะต้องขึ้นไป และเรื่องหัวเมืองที่เราจะไปนั้นมาให้เรา'

²²You came near to me everyone of you, and said, “Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”

²³เรื่องนั้นข้าพเจ้าเห็นดีด้วย ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้เลือกสิบสองคนมาจากท่านทั้งหลายตระกูลละคน

²³The thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe:

²⁴แล้วคนเหล่านั้นได้หันไปขึ้นแดนเทือกเขา มาถึงหุบเขาเอชโคล์ และสอดแนมดูที่นั่น

²⁴and they turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

²⁵เขาทั้งหลายได้เก็บผลไม้เมืองนั้นติดมือมาให้เราทั้งหลายและนำข่าวมาให้เราว่า `ที่ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราประทานแก่เรานั้นเป็นแผ่นดินที่ดี'

²⁵They took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which Yahweh our God gives to us.”

²⁶แต่กระนั้นท่านทั้งหลายก็ไม่ยอมขึ้นไป กลับขัดขืนพระบัญชาของพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย

²⁶Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God:

²⁷และท่านทั้งหลายได้บ่นอยู่ในเต็นท์ของตน และว่า `เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงชังพวกเรา พระองค์จึงทรงพาเราทั้งหลายออกมาจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ จะได้มอบเราไว้ในมือคนอาโมไรต์เพื่อจะทำลายเราเสีย

²⁷and you murmured in your tents, and said, “Because Yahweh hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁸เราทั้งหลายจะขึ้นไปที่ไหนเล่า พวกพี่น้องของเราได้ทำอกใจของเราให้ฝ่อท้อถอยไปโดยที่ว่า "คนเหล่านั้นใหญ่กว่าและสูงกว่าพวกเราอีก เมืองเหล่านั้นก็ใหญ่มีกำแพงสูงเทียมฟ้า และยิ่งกว่านั้นเราได้เห็นพวกคนอานาคอยู่ที่นั่นด้วย"'

²⁸Where are we going up? our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to the sky; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.’”

²⁹แล้วข้าพเจ้าจึงได้พูดกับท่านทั้งหลายว่า `อย่าครั่นคร้ามหรือกลัวเขาเลย

²⁹Then I said to you, “Don’t dread, neither be afraid of them.

³⁰พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านผู้นำหน้าท่านทั้งหลาย พระองค์จะทรงต่อสู้เผื่อท่านทั้งหลาย ดังที่พระองค์ได้ทรงกระทำให้แก่ท่านทั้งหลายในอียิปต์ต่อหน้าต่อตาท่านทั้งหลาย

³⁰Yahweh your God who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

³¹และในถิ่นทุรกันดาร ซึ่งในที่นั้นพวกท่านได้เห็นพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทรงอุ้มชูพวกท่าน ดังพ่ออุ้มลูกชายของตน ตลอดทางที่ท่านได้ไปนั้น จนท่านทั้งหลายได้มาถึงที่นี่'

³¹and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that Yahweh your God bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

³²แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ท่านทั้งหลายมิได้เชื่อพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย

³²Yet in this thing you didn’t believe Yahweh your God,

³³ผู้ได้ทรงนำทางข้างหน้าท่าน เพื่อจะหาที่ให้ท่านทั้งหลายตั้งเต็นท์ของท่าน เป็นไฟในกลางคืน เพื่อโปรดให้ท่านทั้งหลายเห็นทางที่ควรจะไป และเป็นเมฆในกลางวัน

³³who went before you in the way, to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day.

³⁴พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงสดับเสียงคำพูดของท่านทั้งหลาย จึงทรงกริ้วและปฏิญาณว่า

³⁴Yahweh heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,

³⁵`แท้จริงจะไม่มีผู้ใดในยุคที่ชั่วนี้สักคนเดียวที่จะได้เห็นแผ่นดินดีนั้น ที่เราได้ปฏิญาณว่าจะให้แก่บรรพบุรุษของเจ้าทั้งหลาย

³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land, which I swore to give to your fathers,

³⁶เว้นแต่คาเลบบุตรชายเยฟุนเนห์ เขาจะเห็นแผ่นดินนั้น และเราจะให้แผ่นดินที่เขาได้เหยียบนั้นแก่เขาและแก่ลูกหลาน เพราะเขาได้ตามพระเยโฮวาห์อย่างสุดใจ'

³⁶except Caleb the son of Jephunneh: he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he has trodden on, and to his children, because he has wholly followed Yahweh.”

³⁷เพราะเหตุท่านทั้งหลายพระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงพิโรธเราด้วย ตรัสว่า `เจ้าจะไม่ได้เข้าไปในที่นั้นด้วยเหมือนกัน

³⁷Also Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, saying, “You also shall not go in there:

³⁸แต่โยชูวาบุตรชายนูนผู้ยืนอยู่ตรงหน้าเจ้า จะได้เข้าไป จงสนับสนุนเขาเพราะเขาจะพาคนอิสราเอลไปถือกรรมสิทธิ์พื้นดินนั้น

³⁸Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there: encourage you him; for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁹ยิ่งกว่านั้นเด็กเล็กของเจ้าทั้งหลายที่เจ้าทั้งหลายว่าจะตกเป็นเหยื่อ และบุตรของเจ้าที่ในวันนี้ยังไม่รู้จักผิดและชอบ จะได้เข้าไปที่นั่น เราจะให้แผ่นดินนั้นแก่เขา และเขาจะถือกรรมสิทธิ์อยู่ที่นั่น

³⁹Moreover your little ones, whom you said should be a prey, and your children, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in there, and to them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

⁴⁰แต่ฝ่ายเจ้าทั้งหลายจงกลับเดินเข้าถิ่นทุรกันดาร ตามทางที่ไปสู่ทะเลแดงเถิด'

⁴⁰But as for you, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds .”

⁴¹ครั้งนั้นท่านทั้งหลายได้ตอบข้าพเจ้าว่า `เราทั้งหลายได้กระทำบาปต่อพระเยโฮวาห์แล้ว เราทั้งหลายจะขึ้นไปสู้รบตามบรรดาพระดำรัสที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราทั้งหลายได้ตรัสสั่งนั้น' และท่านทั้งหลายได้คาดอาวุธเตรียมตัวไว้ทุกคน คิดว่าที่จะขึ้นไปยังแดนเทือกเขานั้นเป็นเรื่องง่าย

⁴¹Then you answered and said to me, “We have sinned against Yahweh, we will go up and fight, according to all that Yahweh our God commanded us.” Every man of you put on his weapons of war, and presumed to go up into the hill country.

⁴²พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งข้าพเจ้าว่า `จงกล่าวแก่คนทั้งหลายนั้นว่า อย่าขึ้นไปสู้รบเลย เกรงว่าเจ้าทั้งหลายจะแพ้ศัตรู เพราะเรามิได้อยู่ท่ามกลางเจ้าทั้งหลาย'

⁴²Yahweh said to me, “Tell them, ‘Don’t go up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest you be struck before your enemies.’”

⁴³ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้กล่าวแก่ท่านดังนั้น และท่านทั้งหลายไม่ฟัง แต่ได้ขัดขืนพระบัญชาของพระเยโฮวาห์ มีใจองอาจและได้ขึ้นไปที่แดนเทือกเขานั้น

⁴³So I spoke to you, and you didn’t listen; but you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill country.

⁴⁴และคนอาโมไรต์ที่อยู่ในแดนเทือกเขานั้น ได้ออกมาต่อสู้และไล่ตีท่านทั้งหลายดุจฝูงผึ้งไล่ และได้ฆ่าท่านทั้งหลายในตำบลเสอีร์จนถึงโฮรมาห์

⁴⁴The Amorites, who lived in that hill country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even to Hormah.

⁴⁵และท่านทั้งหลายกลับมาร้องไห้ต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ แต่พระเยโฮวาห์มิได้ทรงฟังเสียงร้องหรือเงี่ยพระกรรณสดับท่านทั้งหลาย

⁴⁵You returned and wept before Yahweh; but Yahweh didn’t listen to your voice, nor gave ear to you.

⁴⁶ท่านทั้งหลายจึงพักอยู่ที่คาเดชหลายวันตามวันที่ท่านทั้งหลายได้อยู่นั้น"

⁴⁶So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.
