¹"ครั้งนั้นเราทั้งหลายได้กลับเดินเข้าถิ่นทุรกันดารตามทางที่ไปสู่ทะเลแดงตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์สั่งข้าพเจ้า และเราทั้งหลายได้เดินเวียนภูเขาเสอีร์หลายวัน

¹Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.

²แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งข้าพเจ้าว่า

²Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

³`เจ้าทั้งหลายได้เดินเวียนที่แดนเทือกเขานี้นานพอแล้ว จงหันไปเดินทางทิศเหนือเถิด

³“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.

⁴และจงบัญชาคนทั้งปวงว่า เจ้าทั้งหลายจวนจะเดินผ่านเขตแดนเมืองพี่น้องของเจ้า คือลูกหลานของเอซาวที่อยู่ตำบลเสอีร์แล้ว และเขาทั้งหลายจะกลัวพวกเจ้า ฉะนั้นเจ้าทั้งหลายจงระวังตัว

⁴Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;

⁵อย่าต่อสู้เขา เพราะเราจะไม่ให้ที่ของเขาแก่เจ้าเลย จะไม่ให้ที่ดินแม้เพียงฝ่าเท้าเหยียบได้ ด้วยว่าภูเขาเสอีร์นั้นเราได้ให้เอซาวยึดครองแล้ว

⁵don’t contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

⁶เจ้าทั้งหลายจงเอาเงินซื้อเสบียงอาหารจากเขาเพื่อจะได้กิน และจงเอาเงินซื้อน้ำจากเขาด้วยเพื่อจะได้ดื่ม

⁶You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.’”

⁷เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกเจ้าได้อำนวยพระพรแก่บรรดาการที่มือของพวกเจ้าได้กระทำ พระองค์ทรงทราบทางที่เจ้าได้เดินในถิ่นทุรกันดารใหญ่นี้ พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกเจ้าได้อยู่กับเจ้าสี่สิบปีนี้มาแล้ว พวกเจ้ามิได้ขัดสนสิ่งใดเลย'

⁷For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

⁸แล้วเราทั้งหลายได้เดินเลยไปจากพี่น้องของเราพวกลูกหลานเอซาวผู้อยู่ที่เสอีร์ ไปจากทางที่ราบจากเอลัทและจากเอซีโอนเกเบอร์ และเราได้เลี้ยวไปเดินตามทางถิ่นทุรกันดารโมอับ

⁸So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

⁹และพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายอย่าราวีพวกโมอับหรือสู้รบกับเขาเลย เพราะเราจะไม่ให้ที่ของเขาแก่เจ้าเพื่อยึดครอง ด้วยเราได้ให้ที่ตำบลอาร์นั้นแก่ลูกหลานของโลทให้ปกครองแล้ว'

⁹Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.”

¹⁰แต่ก่อนคนเอมิมอยู่ที่นั่นเป็นชนชาติใหญ่และมากและสูงอย่างคนอานาค

¹⁰(The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:

¹¹คนเหล่านี้ได้นับว่าเป็นพวกมนุษย์ยักษ์ เหมือนคนอานาค แต่คนโมอับเรียกชื่อพวกนี้ว่าเอมิม

¹¹these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.

¹²เมื่อก่อนพวกโฮรีได้อยู่ที่เสอีร์ด้วย แต่ลูกหลานเอซาวได้มาอยู่แทนเขา และได้ทำลายเขาเสียให้พ้นหน้า และได้อาศัยอยู่ในที่ของเขาเหมือนพวกอิสราเอลได้กระทำแก่เมืองที่พระเยโฮวาห์ประทานให้เขายึดครองนั้น

¹²The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.)

¹³ข้าพเจ้ากล่าวว่า `บัดนี้เจ้าทั้งหลายจงยกเดินข้ามลำธารเศเรด' เราทั้งหลายจึงข้ามลำธารเศเรด

¹³“Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered.

¹⁴และนับตั้งแต่เรามาจากคาเดชบารเนีย จนถึงได้ข้ามลำธารเศเรดนั้นได้สามสิบแปดปีจนสิ้นยุคนั้น คือคนทั้งหลายที่จะออกทัพได้นั้นตายหมดจากท่ามกลางค่าย ตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปฏิญาณกับเขาไว้

¹⁴The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them.

¹⁵แท้จริงพระหัตถ์พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงต่อสู้เขา เพื่อทรงทำลายเขาจากท่ามกลางค่ายจนเขาทั้งหลายศูนย์เสียหมด

¹⁵Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

¹⁶ต่อมาเมื่อคนที่ออกทัพได้มาตายเสียหมดจากท่ามกลางคนเหล่านั้นแล้ว

¹⁶So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

¹⁷พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ตรัสแก่ข้าพเจ้าว่า

¹⁷that Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

¹⁸`วันนี้เจ้าทั้งหลายจะเดินข้ามตำบลอาร์เขตแดนของคนโมอับ

¹⁸“You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:

¹⁹และเมื่อเข้าใกล้แนวหน้าของคนอัมโมนอย่าราวีหรือรบกับเขาเลย เพราะเราจะไม่ให้ที่อยู่ของลูกหลานคนอัมโมนแก่เจ้าให้ยึดครองเลย ด้วยเราได้ให้ที่นั่นแก่ลูกหลานของโลทเป็นผู้ยึดครองแล้ว'

¹⁹and when you come near over against the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.”

²⁰(ทั้งที่นั่นก็นับว่าเป็นแผ่นดินของพวกมนุษย์ยักษ์ แต่ก่อนมนุษย์ยักษ์ได้อยู่ในนั้น แต่คนอัมโมนได้เรียกชื่อของเขาว่าศัมซุมมิม

²⁰(That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived therein before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,

²¹คนเหล่านั้นใหญ่และมากและสูงอย่างคนอานาค แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงทำลายเขาเสียให้พ้นหน้า และพวกอัมโมนได้เข้ายึดที่ของเขาและตั้งอยู่แทน

²¹a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;

²²เหมือนพระองค์ได้ทรงกระทำให้แก่พวกลูกหลานเอซาวผู้อยู่ที่เสอีร์ เมื่อพระองค์ทรงทำลายพวกโฮรีเสียให้พ้นหน้า และเขาได้ยึดที่ของพวกโฮรีแล้วตั้งอยู่แทนจนทุกวันนี้

²²as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:

²³ส่วนชาวอิฟวาห์ที่อยู่ในเฮเซริมจนถึงกาซา คนคัฟโทร์ซึ่งมาจากตำบลคัฟโทร์ ก็ได้ทำลายเขาและตั้งอยู่แทน)

²³and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)

²⁴`พวกเจ้าจงลุกเดินทางไปข้ามลุ่มแม่น้ำอารโนน ดูเถิด เราได้มอบสิโหนชาวอาโมไรต์ผู้เป็นกษัตริย์เมืองเฮชโบน และเมืองของเขาไว้ในมือของพวกเจ้า เจ้าทั้งหลายจงตั้งต้นยึดเมืองนั้นและสู้รบกับเขา

²⁴“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

²⁵ตั้งแต่วันนี้ไปเราจะให้ชนชาติทั้งหลายทั่วใต้ฟ้าครั่นคร้ามต่อพวกเจ้าและกลัวเจ้า คนประเทศผู้จะได้ยินข่าวเรื่องเจ้าจะกลัวตัวสั่นและมีความระทมเพราะเจ้า'

²⁵This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.”

²⁶ฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงใช้ผู้สื่อสารจากถิ่นทุรกันดารเคเดโมทไปเฝ้าสิโหนกษัตริย์เมืองเฮชโบนนั้น ทูลถ้อยคำอันสันติว่า

²⁶I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

²⁷`ขอให้ข้าพเจ้าเดินข้ามแผ่นดินของท่าน ข้าพเจ้าจะเดินไปตามทางหลวง จะไม่เลี้ยวไปทางขวามือหรือซ้ายมือเลย

²⁷“Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.

²⁸ขอท่านได้ขายเสบียงเอาเงินของข้าพเจ้า เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้กิน และขอขายน้ำเอาเงินของข้าพเจ้า เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้ดื่ม ขอให้ข้าพเจ้าเดินเท้าข้ามประเทศของท่านเท่านั้น

²⁸You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,

²⁹(ดุจพวกลูกหลานเอซาวที่อยู่ตำบลเสอีร์ และพวกโมอับที่อยู่ตำบลอาร์ ได้กระทำแก่ข้าพเจ้านั้น) จนข้าพเจ้าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนเข้าไปในแผ่นดินที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายได้ทรงประทานแก่ข้าพเจ้า'

²⁹as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us.”

³⁰แต่สิโหนกษัตริย์เมืองเฮชโบน ไม่ยอมให้เราทั้งหลายข้ามประเทศของท่าน เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านได้ทรงกระทำจิตใจของสิโหนให้กระด้าง กระทำใจของท่านให้แข็งไป เพื่อจะได้ทรงมอบเขาไว้ในมือของพวกท่าน ดังเป็นอยู่ทุกวันนี้

³⁰But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

³¹และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า `ดูเถิด เราได้เริ่มมอบสิโหนและเมืองของเขาไว้กับเจ้า จงตั้งต้นเข้ายึดครองที่นั่นเพื่อเจ้าจะได้แผ่นดินของเขาเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์'

³¹Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.”

³²แล้วสิโหนยกออกมาต่อสู้กับเรา ทั้งท่านและพลโยธาทั้งหลายของท่านที่ตำบลยาฮาส

³²Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

³³และพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราทั้งหลายได้ทรงมอบท่านไว้ต่อหน้าเรา และเราได้ตีทำลายท่านกับโอรสและพลโยธาทั้งหลายของท่านเสีย

³³Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, and his sons, and all his people.

³⁴ครั้งนั้นเราได้ยึดเมืองทั้งปวงของท่าน และเราได้ทำลายเสียสิ้น คือผู้ชายผู้หญิงและเด็กทั้งหลายในทุกเมือง ไม่ให้มีเหลือเลย

³⁴We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:

³⁵แต่ฝูงสัตว์เราได้ยึดมาเป็นของเรา ทั้งของริบได้ในเมืองเหล่านั้นที่เราตีมา

³⁵only the livestock we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.

³⁶ตั้งแต่อาโรเออร์ที่อยู่ริมลุ่มแม่น้ำอารโนนและตั้งแต่เมืองที่อยู่ในลุ่มแม่น้ำนั้นจนถึงเมืองกิเลอาด ไม่มีเมืองใดที่ต่อต้านเราได้ พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราได้ทรงมอบทั้งหมดไว้แก่เรา

³⁶From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; Yahweh our God delivered up all before us:

³⁷แต่ท่านทั้งหลายมิได้เข้าใกล้แผ่นดินคนอัมโมน คือฝั่งแม่น้ำยับบอกและเมืองที่อยู่บนภูเขา และที่ใดๆซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราตรัสห้ามเรานั้น"

³⁷only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.
