¹ในเดือนที่สิบสองซึ่งเป็นเดือนอาดาร์ วันที่สิบสามเดือนนั้น เมื่อจะปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาของกษัตริย์และกฤษฎีกา ในวันนั้นเองที่ศัตรูของพวกยิวหวังจะเป็นใหญ่เหนือพวกยิว (แต่ซึ่งถูกเปลี่ยนไป เป็นวันที่พวกยิวได้ความเป็นใหญ่เหนือพวกที่เกลียดชังเขา)

¹Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the month, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to conquer them, (but it was turned out the opposite happened, that the Jews conquered those who hated them),

²พวกยิวก็ชุมนุมกันในบรรดาหัวเมืองตลอดทั่วทุกมณฑลของกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัส เพื่อจะจับพวกที่หาช่องทำร้ายเขา ไม่มีผู้ใดต่อต้านพวกเขาได้ เพราะความกลัวเขาครอบงำเหนือชนชาติทั้งปวง

²the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who wanted to harm them. No one could withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen on all the people.

³บรรดาเจ้านายทั้งปวงของมณฑล และสมุหเทศาภิบาล และผู้ว่าราชการเมือง และเจ้าหน้าที่ราชการก็ช่วยพวกยิวด้วย เพราะความกลัวโมรเดคัยครอบงำเขา

³All the princes of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and those who did the king’s business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

⁴เหตุว่าโมรเดคัยเป็นใหญ่อยู่ในราชสำนักของกษัตริย์ และชื่อเสียงของท่านเลื่องลือไปทั่วทุกมณฑล เพราะชายที่ชื่อโมรเดคัยนั้นมีอำนาจมากยิ่งขึ้นทุกที

⁴For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai grew greater and greater.

⁵พวกยิวจึงโจมตีศัตรูทั้งหมดของตนด้วยฟาดดาบ สังหารและทำลายเขา และทำแก่ผู้ที่เกลียดชังเขาตามใจชอบ

⁵The Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them.

⁶ในสุสาปราสาทพวกยิวได้สังหารและทำลายล้างเสียห้าร้อยคน

⁶In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

⁷ได้สังหารปารชันดาธา และดาลโฟน และอัสปาธา

⁷They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

⁸และโปราธา และอาดัลยา และอารีดาธา

⁸Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

⁹และปารมัชทา และอารีสัย และอารีดัย และไวซาธา

⁹Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,

¹⁰คือเขาสังหารบุตรชายทั้งสิบของฮามาน บุตรชายฮัมเมดาธา ศัตรูของพวกยิว แต่เขามิได้ปล้นข้าวของ

¹⁰the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew’s enemy, but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

¹¹ในวันนั้นจำนวนคนที่ถูกฆ่าในสุสาปราสาทก็ถูกนำมารายงานต่อเบื้องพระพักตร์กษัตริย์

¹¹On that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa was brought before the king.

¹²กษัตริย์จึงตรัสกับพระราชินีเอสเธอร์ว่า "พวกยิวได้สังหารและทำลายล้างเสียห้าร้อยคนในสุสาปราสาท รวมทั้งบุตรชายทั้งสิบคนของฮามานด้วย แล้วเขาได้ทำอะไรกันบ้างในมณฑลที่เหลืออยู่ของกษัตริย์นั้น บัดนี้คำร้องของพระนางคืออะไร เราจะประทานให้ คำทูลขอของพระนางมีอะไรอีกต่อไปอีกบ้าง เราก็จะกระทำตามนั้น"

¹²The king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done.”

¹³พระนางเอสเธอร์ทูลว่า "ถ้าเป็นที่พอพระทัยกษัตริย์ ขอให้พวกยิวที่อยู่ในสุสาได้กระทำตามกฤษฎีกาของวันนี้ในวันพรุ่งนี้อีก และขอให้แขวนบุตรชายทั้งสิบของฮามานบนตะแลงแกง"

¹³Then Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”

¹⁴กษัตริย์ได้ทรงบัญชาให้กระทำเช่นนั้น มีกฤษฎีกาออกในสุสา และบุตรชายทั้งสิบคนของฮามานก็ถูกแขวน

¹⁴The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

¹⁵พวกยิวที่อยู่ในสุสาชุมนุมกันในวันที่สิบสี่เดือนอาดาร์ด้วย และได้สังหารสามร้อยคนในสุสา แต่เขามิได้ริบข้าวของ

¹⁵The Jews who were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and killed three hundred men in Shushan; but they didn’t lay their hand on the spoil.

¹⁶ฝ่ายพวกยิวอื่นๆซึ่งอยู่ในมณฑลของกษัตริย์ก็ชุมนุมกันป้องกันชีวิต และพ้นศัตรูของเขา เขาสังหารผู้ที่เกลียดชังเขาเสียเจ็ดหมื่นห้าพันคน แต่เขามิได้ริบข้าวของ

¹⁶The other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

¹⁷เหตุนี้เกิดขึ้นในวันที่สิบสามเดือนอาดาร์ และในวันที่สิบสี่เขาหยุดพัก และกระทำวันนั้นให้เป็นวันกินเลี้ยงและยินดี

¹⁷This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of that month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

¹⁸แต่พวกยิวที่อยู่ในสุสาชุมนุมกันในวันที่สิบสามและวันที่สิบสี่ และหยุดพักในวันที่สิบห้า ทำให้วันนั้นเป็นวันกินเลี้ยงและยินดี

¹⁸But the Jews who were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth days of the month; and on the fifteenth day of that month, they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

¹⁹เพราะฉะนั้นพวกยิวในชนบท ที่อยู่ตามหัวเมืองที่ไม่มีกำแพง ถือวันที่สิบสี่ของเดือนอาดาร์เป็นวันแห่งความยินดีและกินเลี้ยง และถือเป็นวันรื่นเริง และเป็นวันที่เขาส่งของขวัญไปให้กันและกัน

¹⁹Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a good day, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.

²⁰และโมรเดคัยบันทึกเรื่องนี้และส่งจดหมายไปยังพวกยิวทั้งปวงผู้อยู่ในมณฑลทั้งปวงของกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัส ทั้งใกล้และไกล

²⁰Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both near and far,

²¹ชักชวนเขาให้ถือวันที่สิบสี่เดือนอาดาร์ และวันที่สิบห้าเดือนเดียวกันทุกๆปี

²¹to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month Adar yearly,

²²เป็นวันที่พวกยิวพ้นจากศัตรูของเขา และเป็นเดือนที่เปลี่ยนความโศกเศร้าเป็นความยินดี และการคร่ำครวญเป็นวันรื่นเริงให้แก่เขา และให้เขาถือเป็นวันกินเลี้ยงและวันยินดี เป็นวันที่ส่งของขวัญแก่กันและกัน และให้ของขวัญแก่คนจน

²²as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.

²³พวกยิวจึงตกลงกระทำตามที่เขาตั้งต้นแล้ว และตามที่โมรเดคัยเขียนไปถึงเขา

²³The Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them;

²⁴เพราะฮามานบุตรชายฮัมเมดาธา คนอากัก ศัตรูของพวกยิวทั้งปวง ได้ปองร้ายต่อพวกยิวเพื่อทำลายเขา ได้ทอดเปอร์ คือสลาก เพื่อล้างผลาญและทำลายเขา

²⁴because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast “Pur,” that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

²⁵แต่เมื่อพระนางเอสเธอร์เข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์ พระองค์ทรงบัญชาเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรให้แผนการมุ่งร้ายของท่าน ซึ่งท่านได้คิดต่อพวกยิวนั้น กลับตกลงบนศีรษะของท่านเอง และให้ตัวท่านกับบุตรชายของท่านถูกแขวนบนตะแลงแกง

²⁵but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

²⁶เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงเรียกวันเหล่านี้ว่า ปูริม ตามคำเปอร์ ดังนั้น เพราะทุกอย่างที่เขียนไว้ในจดหมายนี้ และเพราะสิ่งที่พวกยิวต้องเผชิญในเรื่องนี้ และสิ่งที่อุบัติแก่เขา

²⁶Therefore they called these days “Purim, Purim is the Hebrew plural for pur, which means lot. ” from the word “Pur.” Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,

²⁷พวกยิวก็กำหนดและรับว่าตัวเขาเอง เชื้อสายของเขา และบรรดาผู้ที่เข้าจารีตยิวจะถือสองวันนี้ดังที่เขียนไว้ และตามเวลาที่กำหนดไว้ทุกปีมิได้ขาด

²⁷the Jews established, and imposed on themselves, and on their descendants, and on all those who joined themselves to them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to what was written, and according to its appointed time, every year;

²⁸และว่าจะจดจำวันเหล่านี้ และถือตลอดทุกชั่วอายุ ทุกครอบครัว มณฑลและเมือง วันเทศกาลปูริมนี้จะไม่เลิกถือในท่ามกลางพวกยิว หรือการระลึกถึงวันเหล่านี้จะไม่สิ้นลงในเชื้อสายของเขาเลย

²⁸and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor their memory perish from their seed.

²⁹แล้วพระราชินีเอสเธอร์ ธิดาของอาบีฮาอิล กับโมรเดคัยคนยิว ก็เขียนเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรรับรองจดหมายฉบับที่สองนี้เรื่องเทศกาลปูริม

²⁹Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

³⁰ให้ส่งจดหมายไปถึงยิวทั้งปวงในหนึ่งร้อยยี่สิบเจ็ดมณฑลในราชอาณาจักรของอาหสุเอรัส เป็นคำที่แท้จริงให้อยู่เย็นเป็นสุข

³⁰He sent letters to all the Jews, to the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

³¹และให้ถือวันเทศกาลปูริมเหล่านี้ตามกำหนดฤดูกาล ดังที่โมรเดคัยคนยิวและพระราชินีเอสเธอร์มีพระเสาวนีย์สั่งพวกยิว และตามที่เขาตั้งไว้สำหรับตนเองและสำหรับเชื้อสายของเขา เกี่ยวกับการอดอาหารและการร้องทุกข์ของเขา

³¹to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had decreed, and as they had imposed upon themselves and their descendants, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

³²พระบัญชาของพระนางเอสเธอร์ตั้งระเบียบการเทศกาลปูริมไว้และมีบันทึกไว้ในหนังสือ

³²The commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
