¹นี่แหละเป็นชื่อบุตรของอิสราเอลที่เข้ามาในประเทศอียิปต์ ท่านเหล่านี้กับทั้งครอบครัวของตนได้มากับยาโคบ

¹Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob):

²คือ รูเบน สิเมโอน เลวี และ ยูดาห์

²Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

³อิสสาคาร์ เศบูลุน และ เบนยามิน

³Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

⁴ดาน และนัฟทาลี กาดและอาเชอร์

⁴Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

⁵คนทั้งปวงที่ออกมาจากบั้นเอวของยาโคบรวมเจ็ดสิบคนด้วยกัน ส่วนโยเซฟนั้นอยู่ที่ประเทศอียิปต์แล้ว

⁵All the souls who came out of Jacob’s body were seventy souls, and Joseph was in Egypt already.

⁶แล้วโยเซฟกับพี่น้องทุกคน ทั้งบรรดาคนยุคนั้น ถึงแก่ความตายเสียหมด

⁶Joseph died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation.

⁷และบุตรของอิสราเอลมีลูกหลานมากและเพิ่มจำนวนขึ้นมาก พวกเขาทวีมากขึ้น และมีกำลังมากทีเดียว และแพร่หลายไปจนเต็มแผ่นดินนั้น

⁷The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

⁸บัดนี้มีกษัตริย์องค์ใหม่ขึ้นครองราชสมบัติในประเทศอียิปต์ ซึ่งมิได้รู้จักกับโยเซฟ

⁸Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn’t know Joseph.

⁹และพระองค์ทรงประกาศแก่ชนชาติของพระองค์ว่า "ดูเถิด ประชาชนชนชาติอิสราเอลมีมากกว่าและมีกำลังยิ่งกว่าเราอีก

⁹He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we.

¹⁰มาเถิด ให้เราใช้สติปัญญาในเรื่องพวกนี้กับเขา เกรงว่าเขาจะทวีมากขึ้น แล้วต่อมาเมื่อเกิดสงครามขึ้น เขาจะสมทบกับพวกข้าศึกของเราสู้รบกับเรา แล้วจะยกออกไปจากอาณาจักร"

¹⁰Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”

¹¹เหตุฉะนั้น เขาจึงตั้งนายงานให้เบียดเบียนคนอิสราเอลด้วยงานตรากตรำ และเขาทั้งหลายสร้างเมืองเก็บราชสมบัติของฟาโรห์ คือเมืองปิธม และเมืองราอัมเสส

¹¹Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.

¹²แต่ยิ่งเบียดเบียนชนชาติอิสราเอล ชนชาติอิสราเอลก็ยิ่งทวีมากขึ้น และยิ่งแพร่หลายออกไป ชาวอียิปต์ก็ทุกข์ใจเนื่องด้วยชนชาติอิสราเอล

¹²But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the children of Israel.

¹³ชาวอียิปต์จึงบังคับชนชาติอิสราเอลให้ทำงานหนัก

¹³The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve,

¹⁴และทำให้ชีวิตของเขาขมขื่นเพราะงานหนักที่เขากระทำนั้น เช่นทำปูนสอ ทำอิฐและทำงานต่างๆที่ทุ่งนา เขาถูกบังคับให้ทำงานหนักทุกชนิด

¹⁴and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.

¹⁵และกษัตริย์อียิปต์ทรงตรัสกับนางผดุงครรภ์ชาวฮีบรู ซึ่งคนหนึ่งชื่อชิฟราห์และอีกคนหนึ่งชื่อปูอาห์

¹⁵The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,

¹⁶และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เมื่อเจ้าไปทำการคลอดให้แก่หญิงฮีบรู และเห็นเขาอยู่บนแผ่นศิลา ถ้าเป็นเด็กชายก็ให้ฆ่าเสีย แต่ถ้าเป็นเด็กหญิงก็ให้ไว้ชีวิต"

¹⁶and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”

¹⁷แต่นางผดุงครรภ์ยำเกรงพระเจ้า จึงมิได้ทำตามที่กษัตริย์อียิปต์สั่งเขานั้น แต่ปล่อยให้บุตรชายรอดชีวิต

¹⁷But the midwives feared God, The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.

¹⁸กษัตริย์อียิปต์จึงรับสั่งให้นางผดุงครรภ์เข้าเฝ้า และตรัสแก่เขาว่า "เหตุไฉนเจ้าจึงทำอย่างนี้ คือปล่อยให้เด็กชายรอดชีวิต"

¹⁸The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and have saved the boys alive?”

¹⁹นางผดุงครรภ์จึงกราบทูลฟาโรห์ว่า "เพราะหญิงฮีบรูไม่เหมือนหญิงอียิปต์ เพราะเขามีกำลังมากจึงคลอดบุตรโดยเร็ว และนางผดุงครรภ์มาหาเขาไม่ทัน"

¹⁹The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”

²⁰เพราะฉะนั้น พระเจ้าทรงโปรดปรานนางผดุงครรภ์นั้น พลไพร่ยิ่งทวีมากขึ้น และมีกำลังเข้มแข็งมาก

²⁰God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.

²¹และต่อมา เพราะนางผดุงครรภ์นั้นยำเกรงพระเจ้า พระองค์จึงได้ทรงให้เขาทั้งสองมีครอบครัว

²¹It happened, because the midwives feared God, that he gave them families.

²²ฝ่ายฟาโรห์จึงรับสั่งแก่บ่าวไพร่ทั้งปวงของพระองค์ว่า "บุตรชายทุกคนที่เกิดมาให้เอาไปทิ้งเสียในแม่น้ำ แต่บุตรสาวทุกคนให้รอดชีวิตอยู่ได้"

²²Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
