¹A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.

²หญิงนั้นตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรชาย และเมื่อนางเห็นว่าทารกเป็นเด็กที่มีรูปงาม นางจึงซ่อนทารกไว้ถึงสามเดือน

²The woman conceived, and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

³ครั้นนางจะซ่อนทารกต่อไปอีกไม่ได้แล้วก็เอาตะกร้าสานด้วยต้นกก ยาด้วยยางมะตอยและชัน เอาทารกใส่ลงในตะกร้า แล้วนางนำไปวางไว้ที่กอปรือริมแม่น้ำ

³When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

⁴ส่วนพี่สาวยืนอยู่แต่ไกล คอยดูว่าจะมีเหตุการณ์อะไรเกิดขึ้นแก่น้อง

⁴His sister stood far off, to see what would be done to him.

⁵และพระราชธิดาของฟาโรห์ลงไปสรงที่แม่น้ำ และพวกสาวใช้เดินไปตามริมฝั่งแม่น้ำนั้น และเมื่อพระนางเห็นตะกร้าอยู่ระหว่างกอปรือ จึงสั่งให้สาวใช้ไปนำมา

⁵Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her handmaid to get it.

⁶และเมื่อเปิดตะกร้านั้นออกก็เห็นทารก และดูเถิด ทารกนั้นกำลังร้องไห้ พระนางจึงทรงกรุณาทารกนั้น และตรัสว่า "นี่เป็นลูกชาวฮีบรู"

⁶She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

⁷พี่สาวทารกจึงทูลถามพระราชธิดาของฟาโรห์ว่า "จะให้หม่อมฉันไปหานางนมชาวฮีบรูมาเลี้ยงทารกนี้ให้พระนางไหม"

⁷Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

⁸พระราชธิดาของฟาโรห์จึงมีรับสั่งแก่เธอว่า "ไปหาเถิด" หญิงสาวนั้นจึงไปเรียกมารดาของทารกนั้นมา

⁸Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” The maiden went and called the child’s mother.

⁹ฝ่ายพระราชธิดาของฟาโรห์จึงตรัสสั่งนางว่า "รับเด็กนี้ไปเลี้ยงไว้ให้เรา แล้วเราจะให้ค่าจ้างแก่เจ้า" นางจึงรับทารกไปเลี้ยงไว้

⁹Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed it.

¹⁰แล้วทารกนั้นก็โตขึ้น และนางก็พาเขามาถวายพระราชธิดาของฟาโรห์ และเขากลายเป็นบุตรเลี้ยงของพระนาง และพระนางประทานชื่อว่า โมเสส และตรัสว่า "เพราะเราได้ฉุดเขาขึ้นมาจากน้ำ"

¹⁰The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Moses” sounds like the Hebrew for “draw out”. and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

¹¹และต่อมาในวันเหล่านั้น ครั้นโมเสสเติบโตขึ้นแล้ว ท่านก็ออกไปหาพวกพี่น้อง และเห็นพวกเขาต้องทำงานตรากตรำ โมเสสเห็นคนอียิปต์คนหนึ่งกำลังตีคนฮีบรู ซึ่งเป็นชนชาติเดียวกันกับตน

¹¹It happened in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brothers, and looked at their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

¹²ท่านก็มองดูซ้ายขวาและเมื่อท่านเห็นว่าไม่มีผู้ใดอยู่ที่นั่น ท่านจึงฆ่าคนอียิปต์นั้นเสีย แล้วซ่อนศพไว้ในทราย

¹²He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

¹³และเมื่อโมเสสออกไปอีกในวันรุ่งขึ้น ดูเถิด มีชาวฮีบรูสองคนต่อสู้กันอยู่ ท่านจึงกล่าวแก่คนที่ทำผิดนั้นว่า "ท่านตีพี่น้องของท่านเองทำไม"

¹³He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

¹⁴และเขาตอบว่า "ใครแต่งตั้งท่านให้เป็นเจ้านาย และเป็นตุลาการปกครองพวกข้าพเจ้า ท่านตั้งใจจะฆ่าข้าพเจ้าเหมือนกับที่ได้ฆ่าคนอียิปต์คนนั้นหรือ" โมเสสจึงกลัว และนึกว่า "เรื่องนั้นได้ลือกันไปทั่วแล้วเป็นแน่"

¹⁴He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

¹⁵เมื่อฟาโรห์ทรงได้ยินถึงเรื่องนี้ก็หาช่องที่จะประหารชีวิตโมเสสเสีย แต่โมเสสหนีจากพระพักตร์ของฟาโรห์ไปอาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินมีเดียน ท่านจึงนั่งลงที่ริมบ่อน้ำแห่งหนึ่ง

¹⁵Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

¹⁶ฝ่ายปุโรหิตของคนมีเดียนมีบุตรสาวเจ็ดคน หญิงเหล่านั้นก็มาตักน้ำใส่รางให้ฝูงแพะแกะของบิดากิน

¹⁶Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

¹⁷และพวกเลี้ยงแกะมาไล่หญิงเหล่านั้น แต่โมเสสลุกขึ้นช่วยหญิงเหล่านั้น และให้ฝูงแพะแกะของเธอกินน้ำ

¹⁷The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

¹⁸และเมื่อหญิงเหล่านั้นกลับไปหาเรอูเอลบิดาของเธอ บิดาถามว่า "วันนี้ทำไมพวกเจ้าจึงกลับมาเร็ว"

¹⁸When they came to Reuel, their father, he said, “How is it that you have returned so early today?”

¹⁹และเธอตอบว่า "มีคนอียิปต์คนหนึ่งช่วยพวกข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นจากมือของพวกเลี้ยงแกะ ทั้งยังตักน้ำให้พวกข้าพเจ้าและให้ฝูงแพะแกะกินด้วย"

¹⁹They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.”

²⁰บิดาจึงถามบุตรสาวของท่านว่า "แล้วชายผู้นั้นอยู่ที่ไหน ทำไมจึงทิ้งเขาไว้ล่ะ ไปเชิญเขามาเพื่อจะรับประทานอาหารซิ"

²⁰He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

²¹โมเสสก็เต็มใจอาศัยอยู่กับเรอูเอล แล้วเรอูเอลก็ยกศิปโปราห์บุตรสาวให้แก่โมเสส

²¹Moses was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter.

²²นางก็คลอดบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง โมเสสจึงตั้งชื่อว่า เกอร์โชม เพราะท่านกล่าวว่า "ข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนต่างด้าวอาศัยอยู่ต่างประเทศ"

²²She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, “Gershom” sounds like the Hebrew for “an alien there.” for he said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”

²³และต่อมา ครั้นเวลาล่วงมาช้านาน กษัตริย์อียิปต์ก็สิ้นพระชนม์ ชนชาติอิสราเอลก็เศร้าใจมากเพราะเหตุที่เขาเป็นทาส เขาจึงร้องคร่ำครวญ และเสียงร่ำร้องของเขาดังขึ้นไปถึงพระเจ้า ด้วยเหตุที่เป็นทาสนี้

²³It happened in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

²⁴และพระเจ้าทรงสดับฟังเสียงคร่ำครวญของเขา พระเจ้าจึงทรงระลึกถึงพันธสัญญาของพระองค์กับอับราฮัม อิสอัค และยาโคบ

²⁴God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

²⁵พระเจ้าจึงทอดพระเนตรชนชาติอิสราเอล แล้วพระเจ้าทรงเอาใจใส่พวกเขา

²⁵God saw the children of Israel, and God was concerned about them.
