1ในเดือนที่สามนับตั้งแต่ชนชาติอิสราเอลออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ในวันนั้นเขามาถึงถิ่นทุรกันดารซีนาย
1In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
2เมื่อยกออกจากตำบลเรฟีดิม มาถึงถิ่นทุรกันดารซีนาย พวกเขาก็ตั้งค่ายอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดาร ชาวอิสราเอลตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่หน้าภูเขานั้น
2When they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mountain.
3โมเสสขึ้นไปเฝ้าพระเจ้า พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสจากภูเขานั้นว่า "บอกวงศ์วานยาโคบและชนชาติอิสราเอลดังนี้ว่า
3Moses went up to God, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
4`พวกเจ้าได้เห็นกิจการซึ่งเรากระทำกับชาวอียิปต์แล้ว และที่เราเทิดชูเจ้าขึ้น ดุจดังด้วยปีกนกอินทรี เพื่อนำเจ้ามาถึงเรา
4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself.
5เหตุฉะนั้นบัดนี้ถ้าเจ้าเชื่อฟังเสียงเรา และรักษาพันธสัญญาของเราไว้ เจ้าจะเป็นทรัพย์อันประเสริฐของเรา ยิ่งกว่าชาติทั้งปวง เพราะแผ่นดินทั้งสิ้นเป็นของเรา
5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;
6เจ้าทั้งหลายจะเป็นอาณาจักรแห่งปุโรหิต และเป็นชนชาติบริสุทธิ์สำหรับเรา' นี่เป็นถ้อยคำที่เจ้าต้องบอกให้ชนชาติอิสราเอลฟัง"
6and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
7โมเสสจึงมาเรียกประชุมพวกผู้ใหญ่ของพลไพร่ แล้วเล่าข้อความเหล่านี้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบัญชาท่านให้เขาฟังทุกประการ
7Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Yahweh commanded him.
8บรรดาพลไพร่ก็ตอบพร้อมกันว่า "สิ่งทั้งปวงที่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสนั้น ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะกระทำตาม" โมเสสจึงนำถ้อยคำของพลไพร่ไปกราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์
8All the people answered together, and said, “All that Yahweh has spoken we will do.” Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.
9พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "ดูเถิด เราจะมาหาเจ้าในเมฆหนาทึบ เพื่อพลไพร่จะได้ยินขณะที่เราพูดกับเจ้า แล้วจะได้เชื่อเจ้าตลอดไป" โมเสสนำคำของพลไพร่นั้นกราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์
9Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.
10พระเยโฮวาห์จึงรับสั่งกับโมเสสว่า "ไปบอกให้พลไพร่ชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์ในวันนี้และพรุ่งนี้ ให้เขาซักเสื้อผ้าเสียให้สะอาด
10Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,
11เตรียมตัวไว้ให้พร้อมในวันที่สาม เพราะในวันที่สามนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์จะเสด็จลงมาบนภูเขาซีนายท่ามกลางสายตาของพลไพร่ทั้งปวง
11and be ready against the third day; for on the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.
12จงกำหนดเขตให้พลไพร่อยู่รอบภูเขา แล้วกำชับเขาว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายจงระวังตัวให้ดีอย่าล่วงล้ำเขตขึ้นไปหรือถูกต้องเชิงภูเขานั้น ผู้ใดถูกภูเขาต้องมีโทษถึงตาย
12You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.
13อย่าใช้มือฆ่าผู้นั้นเลย ให้เอาหินขว้างหรือยิงเสีย จะเป็นสัตว์ก็ดีหรือเป็นมนุษย์ก็ดี อย่าไว้ชีวิต' เมื่อได้ยินเสียงแตรเป่ายาว ให้เขาทั้งหลายมายังภูเขานั้น"
13No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is animal or man, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mountain.”
14โมเสสลงจากภูเขามายังพลไพร่ แล้วพลไพร่ชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์และซักเสื้อผ้าให้สะอาด
14Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
15แล้วท่านกล่าวแก่พลไพร่ว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายจงเตรียมตัวไว้ให้พร้อมในวันที่สาม อย่าเข้าใกล้ภรรยาของท่านเลย"
15He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Don’t have sexual relations with a woman.”
16อยู่มาพอถึงรุ่งเช้าวันที่สาม ก็บังเกิดฟ้าร้องฟ้าแลบ มีเมฆอันหนาทึบปกคลุมภูเขานั้นไว้กับมีเสียงแตรดังสนั่น จนคนทั้งปวงที่อยู่ค่ายต่างก็พากันกลัวจนตัวสั่น
16It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
17โมเสสก็นำประชาชนออกจากค่ายไปเฝ้าพระเจ้า พวกเขามายืนอยู่ที่เชิงภูเขา
17Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.
18ภูเขาซีนายมีควันกลุ้มหุ้มอยู่ทั่วไปเพราะพระเยโฮวาห์เสด็จลงมาบนภูเขานั้นโดยอาศัยเพลิง ควันไฟพลุ่งขึ้นเหมือนควันจากเตาใหญ่ ภูเขาก็สะท้านหวั่นไหวไปหมด
18Mount Sinai, all it, smoked, because Yahweh descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
19เมื่อเสียงแตรยิ่งดังขึ้น โมเสสก็กราบทูล พระเจ้าก็ตรัสตอบเป็นเสียงร้อง
19When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
20พระเยโฮวาห์เสด็จลงมาบนยอดภูเขาซีนาย พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเรียกโมเสสให้ขึ้นไปบนยอดเขา โมเสสก็ขึ้นไป
20Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
21พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งโมเสสว่า "เจ้าจงลงไปกำชับพลไพร่ เกรงว่าเขาจะล่วงล้ำเข้ามาถึงพระเยโฮวาห์ เพราะอยากเห็น แล้วเขาจะพินาศเสียเป็นจำนวนมาก
21Yahweh said to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish.
22อีกประการหนึ่ง พวกปุโรหิตที่เข้ามาเฝ้าพระเยโฮวาห์นั้นให้เขาชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์ ด้วยเกรงว่าพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงลงโทษเขา"
22Let the priests also, who come near to Yahweh, sanctify themselves, lest Yahweh break forth on them.”
23ฝ่ายโมเสสกราบทูลพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า "พลไพร่ขึ้นมาบนภูเขาซีนายไม่ได้เพราะพระองค์ทรงสั่งข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายว่า `จงกั้นเขตรอบภูเขานั้น ชำระให้เป็นที่บริสุทธิ์'"
23Moses said to Yahweh, “The people can’t come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.’”
24พระเยโฮวาห์จึงตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "ลงไปเถิด แล้วกลับขึ้นมาอีก พาอาโรนขึ้นมาด้วย แต่อย่าให้พวกปุโรหิตและพลไพร่ล่วงล้ำขึ้นมาถึงพระเยโฮวาห์ เกรงว่าพระองค์จะลงโทษเขา"
24Yahweh said to him, “Go down and you shall bring Aaron up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break forth on them.”
25โมเสสก็ลงไปบอกพลไพร่ตามนั้น
25So Moses went down to the people, and told them.
